Meet Maryland hip hop guru Ama’d and his impeccable knowledge of music! Check out below our interview!
LL: Define star power in your own words?
AD: When I think of the term: “Star power” I think of someone(Particularly an artist or a person in the entertainment industry)that carries a certain glow/aura about themselves. It’s very apparent when you meet them in person and or have the opportunity to converse with them. But just speaking from an artist perspective, I definitely feel that sometimes one can gauge another person’s “Star power” through how that person is able to innately/effortlessly capture the attention of others within a specific setting.
What does the DMV mean to you?
Being born and raised in Washington DC to now living in Suitland, Maryland for the past 5 years of my life. One can definitely understand the term: “DMV”, especially if you were allotted the opportunity of living in all three places(Or in my case living in only 2 out of the 3 places). I personally feel that I’ve always had a balance when it comes to acknowledging where I am from specifically(Which is D.C.), but also not being closed minded about all 3 places forming together in unity/solidarity to achieve the same goal.
If you had to make a song to put the DMV culture in the national spotlight, what would it be and why?
That’s a tough, but great question! I’m unsure on who would be a part of/featured on the song, to what the song would even be about, and more. But on the same note, I can attest to the idea that the song will definitely be a song that finds a medium between the artist from the DMV area showing love towards their respective domains. While, still simultaneously being able to bring an appeal to people that aren’t from the DMV and cannot relate that certain background.
For instance, what Jay-Z did with Alicia Keys on the song entitled: “Empire State Of Mind” is a perfect example of an artist displaying patriarchal elements into a song but still bridging the gap in the sense of creating a timeless/wonderful record! I am 100% confident that an artist from the DMV can capture that same magic/essence, while still telling our truth as people from the DMV.
Spell out your name with a word?
Artistically
Motivated
And
Determined
In an industry which is hard to break into, what keeps you going?
Creating timeless music that’ll outlast my physical life span here on the earth! Also, just the release/ love that I have for music when I am creating it. It’s like no other, very therapeutic!
If your life was a movie what would it be and why?
If my life was a movie, then genre wise I feel that it’ll be very diverse in the sense of it having multiple genres within that 1 film. They’ll be action(Of course), drama, romance, comedy, horror, adventure, suspense, mystery, satire, and most of all a biography. Despite so many genres and elements in 1 movie, it’s going to definitely be a cohesive piece of work.
Three things about you that we don’t know?
- Despite my love for people, I am someone who is very much to himself.
- I love to eat! So I definitely do not mind cooking for myself or others(I.E. family members, friends, and significant other).
- I have mixed some of the weirdest combinations of food together! For example, dipping my french fries into a milkshake/frosty. Or, making a sardine filled grilled cheese with avocado spread.
If your life was a movie, what would be the title? The story?
The title of a movie that documents my life would be named: “The beginnings of an end”. It would capture/document my whole life story from birth, all the way to my career as a rapper. The reason that I would name the movie this title is because they’ll be a constant reminder to the viewers of the movie that for the main character(Which is myself)to move forward in accomplishing his goals, he’s going to have to put an end to a lot of the baggage that he constantly carries around so that he can start his new beginnings.
What you got coming up musically?
I am thrilled to say that I’ll be releasing my first ever project independently on all streaming platforms! The name of the project is entitled: “Just Ama’d” and it’ll be a 4 song EP. All of the beats are produced by my producer ET.OnDaBeat, he’s also the one who mixed/mastered and recorded me as well. For me this project has been a long time coming. I’ve been making music professionally for the past 3 years, but I’ve never released a project to the world(Until now).
Where can we find you at?
You can find me on Instagram @ahmad.woodard and you can find me on Twitter @AhmadWoodard2. Also, my Soundcloud, Spotify, and ITunes name is all the same(Just type in Ama’d).
Final thoughts?
I am just honored that I am being given this wonderful opportunity to have my first interview with you all! This is without a doubt a milestone for me, but this is only the beginning! I really look forward to looking back on this interview and feeling a sense of nostalgia. From not only how far I’ve come, but also to see all of the things that I spoke on in this interview that shall manifest in the future! I believe opportunities such as this, provide artists a way to gauge their progress/trajectory pertaining to their career.
