Jermaine Dupri and So So Def Records have teamed up with WE TV to host an exclusive red carpet event and screening of the new documentary Power, Influence & Hip Hop: The Remarkable Rise of So So Def which was held at The London Hotel in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 16.
The documentary centers on Dupri’s early days with So So Def, and how the collective came to shape Atlanta’s music scene and influence hip-hop overall. A few interviews with some of Dupri’s colleagues are included in the film, with stars such as Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, Will.I.Am, Bow Wow, Nelly, and Da Brat. Never-before-seen footage of the record label will also be included.
Dupri was joined by many at the screening such as his mother and father, his daughter, Shaniah Mauldin, and celebrity friends like Usher, Bow Wow, Larenz Tate, Da Brat, Jackie Long, Datari Turner, Mona Scott-Young, Antoine Harris, Miss Lawrence, Eddie George, Angel Brinks, Drea Kelly, Buku Abi, and ReeMarkable, according to a We TV release. Media and influencers were also in attendance.
Following the screening, celebrities and guests enjoyed an after party on the roof with music, cocktails, and ice cream. Music for the event was provided by Power 106’s DJ Carisma.
The show, Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta follows the lives of the children of some of Atlanta’s hip-hop legends. The cast includes Dupri and his daughter, Bow Wow and his girlfriend, Kiyomi Leslie, Masika Kalysha, Da Brat, Lil Mama, Debra Atney, who is the mother and manager of Waka Flocka, and Ayana Fite who is the daughter of DJ Hurricane.
The documentary aired on Thursday, July 18. Attendees also added to the excitement by acknowledging Season 3 of Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta, which airs on Thursdays at 9/8c. See pictures of the event below.
