The Poet Life hosted “A Poet’s Homecoming” Weekend, an exciting poetry festival that showcased performances by world renowned and local artists in the spoken word world. The 3-day action packed festival weekend was loaded with entertainment, specialty events, family-fun activities, and a huge marketplace of small businesses sharing exquisite cuisine and crafts. Friday night kicked off the festival with an “All White Rhythm Party” at Apache XLR Lounge filling it with spoken word hosted by Ernestine Morrison and Christopher “Cocktails” Cornell in conjunction with R&B Karaoke; Saturday was the official Poet Life Festival at the Legacy Center aka The Black House and featured several world renowned poets like Taalam Acey, Prentice Powell, Georgia Me, Red Storm captivating the audience with their amazing creativity, Yoga, a adult bounce houses with loads of fun provided by Big Old Kids Party and lots of shopping from black-owned vendors; Sunday concluded the Poet Life Fest at Highland Bistro for the Farewell Brunch at “Beats and Brunch” hosted by Christopher “Cocktails” Cornell that included delicious bites and cocktails, a live dj, poets rocking the mic one last time and an exhilarating cypher that even attracted onlookers from other establishments in the Virginia Highlands. The Poet Life’s “A Poet’s Homecoming” Weekend attracted poets from literally all across the country traveling to have their voices heard from legendary poets and fans of the spoken word culture. Ernestine Morrison (Viral Poet, Co-Founder of The Black House (Legacy Center) & Esteemed Actress) and the renowned Christopher “Cocktails” Cornell (Public Speaking Professor and Coach, Poet, Author, and Event Host) hosted this weekend of events and had everyone clapping, snapping and enjoying the weekend including a soul stirring poem called “Yo Mama” by Ernestine Morrison.
