Where are you from originally? Where are you located now?
I am from and currently based out of Atlanta, Georgia. I lived here my whole life. I grew up on the Eastside of ATLANTA in Dekalb County.
What are the most important things you want to let fans know about right now?
I took a few years off to rebrand, refocus and to build up my new label “Payup Music”. While being out catering to my artist it seemed like every day the fans would asking me, “when am I going to get back on my Lil Playboii shit”, so now I’m officially back and this time I’m popping my shit bigger and better than ever. I officially drop the “Lil” from my name and for now on I’m going by just “P L A Y B O I I” to remind y’all ain’t shit little over here anymore. Everything we doing is BIG, so I upper cased every letter in the name and haven’t looked back since.
How did you get your start in music?
Most of y’all might remember me getting my start back in the day from when I created the “Crank That Souljaboy” Dance in 2007 with my group Cash Camp and signing a single deal with Sony/Epic in 2008 for my our platinum hit single “Crank Dat Yank”. In 2009 Soulja Boy formed the rap group “SOD Money Gang” which consisted of Me, Soulja Boy, Arab & Jbar. From there I dropped my first independent single “Make Her Mine” produced by DJ Spinz and earned my first solo Billboard Top 100 entry. I’ve been in the industry for a long time and it’s nothing but blessing to still be here doing what I love to do and that’s on BIG GOD!
How would you describe your sound?
I’ve always kind of been known to cater to my female fanbase but lately I’ve really, really been on my “Baby Daddy / Baby Making Love Music” shit. I do this for all the independent women, all the single mothers, and the bad bitches. It doesn’t matter if I’m turning them up in the club by telling them to “shake a lil ass or sum” or encouraging them to get their body right with the new “squat challenge” I created. Playboii has always been known to bring the baddies out and that’s all the real men rocking with me! Because I make the females feel sexy, keep them lit and have fun! Tell me what man doesn’t like a Turned Up, Lit, Sexy Ass, Independent Woman? I can’t think of not one.
Which songs are you most known for?
Of course everybody know me from back in the day for my songs “Crank Dat Yank” & “Make Her Mine” but lately I’ve been noticing all of my top records online and in the strip clubs are my female songs like “Dickey Ride” from my 2020 “Heartbreak Playboii” album, my single “Go Kart” I dropped in 2022 and “Sit On It” & “Love That Sound” off my last album that I just released “Baby Daddy”. My new single “Squat Challenge” which will officially be released everywhere on January 24, 2023 has been getting a lot of attention on TikTok. I feel like once I officially drop it on all the steaming platforms it will be up from there.
Do you have any collaborations and/or have you performed with any known artists/producers?
My last album has features from Ybt3fly, Young Cash & Yung Durty. l recently just performed for my bros Karlos Miller, DC Young Fly, and Chico Bean at the 85 South Show with my cousin Jack Thriller the comedian. I also blessed the stage at the T-Pan “Wiscansin Fest” and Trap Beckham “Fuck It Fest” in 2022. I’m dropping the “Baby Daddy deluxe” album real soon and I plan on putting a good three maybe four big features on there as well.
What do you love most about making music?
The thing I love most about making music is making other people happy and watching them vibe out to something I created. There’s no better feeling than seeing people dance and sing my songs word for word. Especially the older songs from over a decade ago.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In the next five years, I would love to have some type of joint venture/ partnership with a major label to help push and fund my indie label “Payup Music”. I love what P and Coach K did with “ QC “ and I love what Yo Gotti is doing with CMG right now. I can’t wait to be in a position where I know I can change 5-6 different artist lives. In all 5/6 of those artist has managers, assistants and family members lives that they’re able to change as well. That’s the real goal and that will always been the #1 goal for me.
