Don Cornelius, creator of the ground-breaking “Soul Train” television show was found dead this morning in his Los Angeles home as a result of gunshots. NY Times reports that someone called the police from Cornelius’ Sherman Oaks home and reported that shots had been fired just before 4am. Once police arrived on the scene, they entered the home and found Cornelius lying lifeless on the floor. Police are not yet sure if this is a case of suicide or homicide, but the 75 year old was rushed to a local hospital where he was announced dead. Police spokesman, Chris No stated “We don’t know if he committed suicide. It’s still under investigation.”

Qunicy Jones and others in the music and entertainment industry have already started to reach out and offer their condolences. “Don was a visionary pioneer and a giant in our business,” Jones said. “Before MTV there was ‘Soul Train,’ that will be the great legacy of Don Cornelius.
