According to reports on CNN, federal prison guard, Nancy Gonzalez, has been charged with having sex with a federal inmate identified as Ronell Wilson. who is serving time for killing a police officer.
For her act, she is being charged with illegally engaging in a sexual act with a person in official custody.
Ronell Wilson, 30, sits in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting a hearing on a death penalty case.
Court documents, obtained by Associated Press, show that Gonzalez became pregnant only a few months after she began “dating” Wilson behind bars.
When asked by reporters, Anthony Rico, Gonzalez’s attorney stated:
These are very serious charges. She has had a very tragic life. She has long-term issues that affected her life and judgment.” Wilson has been transferred to solitary confinement in August, while prison officials investigated this unlawful relationship. Wilson was given a death row sentence, for point-blank shootings of two undercover officers, James Nemorin and Rodney Andrews back in 2006.
According to police reports, Wilson was a young gang member when he shot Nemorin and Andrews execution style. All seven gang members were convicted in the two officer’s deaths. Wilson got his death sentence overturned in 2012, based on a prosecutorial error.
When Gonzalez was questioned by federal officials she stated the following: “I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved and now I am carrying his child.”
She also stated that she somehow got, “sucked into his world, and she felt like ‘well’ why not just give him a child, give him some kind of hope.” If convicted, Nancy Gonzalez could face up to fifteen years in prison.
