Fashion Alert: Chris Brown, Nicole Richie, Pharrell Williams and More Arrive at Chaos To Couture Costume Institute Gala in New York
PUNK: Chaos to Couture, the latest exhibit organized by Andrew Bolton for The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, opens to the public today.
The press got a first look yesterday. The first to show up turning heads were singer Chris Brown, fashionista and former reality star Nicole Richie, model Tyson Beckford, Material Girl Madonna along with super producer/artist Pharrell Williams were just a few of the many who got a first look at how the Punk culture is pushing the envelope in today’s fashion. Most would agree that the above mentioned attendees have all been responsible for raising the fashion bar to its extreme to an extreme in their professional careers.
Punk as a movement is inherently opposed to being exhibited (let alone the $1000 and up fashions it inspired) especially within the sterile environment of a museum like the Met.
Punk is about anarchy, rebellion, and individuality–it seems at odds with the commercialization of punk codes as co-opted by luxury labels.
