Unexpected as it is, Actor/Comedian Eddie Murphy has unveiled a new reggae single alongside the reinvented Snoop Lion. Murphy’s last musical success was in 1985 with the song ‘Party All the Time.’
As laughable as the notion of Murphy doing Reggae may sound, the groove and quality of the song is hard to dismiss.
The Song “Red Light,” which speaks about police profiling, premiered on Eddie Murphy’s SoundCloud page early yesterday and the song has been receiving mostly positive comments. The song captures the vibe and nonchalance that reggae music offers and pays homage to the sounds of Reggae icons Bob Marley and The Wailers.
If the intention was to have the song sound like a legitimate reggae track, it would be fair to say that Murphy did a surprisingly fantastic job, Snoop Lion on the other hand somewhat sounds like your typical foreigner trying to sound “irie.”
The song surfaced on the 3gfilminc Youtube page in June but only received mass attention after Murphy announced the track on his newly started Twitter page which it seems was only started to accelerate the publicity for “Red Light.”
The official music video premiers on September 9th.
