The New York Post released an article yesterday on their website titled “Jay-Z’s bling from ‘whites are devils’ group,” which is causing quite an uproar on social media.  Last week Hov and Bey were seen courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game.  The couple looked great as usual, but this time all eyes were not on Beyonce, and instead on Jay Z’s gigantic medallion.

    Beyonce, Jay-Z

The medallion worn by Jay Z bares a symbol that is the Universal Flag of the Five Percent Nation.  The Five Percent Nation, also known as the Nation of Gods and Earths, was founded in Harlem in 1964.  Other hip hop artists have publicly announced their faithfulness to the Universal Flag for decades, but now that Mr. Carter has been seen sporting the flag critics are taking aim at him.

The article by The New York Post could honestly be seen as defamation as they are dragging his name through the mud without any confirmation.

The majority of quotes collected by The New York Post were given by Michael Muhammad Knight, a white Muslim of American descent who was once a student of the Five Percent Nation and now a pro-homosexuality advocate.

“The rationale is that the Black man is God and created the universe, and is physically stronger and intellectually stronger and more righteous naturally,” says Michael Muhammad Knight, an author of two books on the radical group.
“Whiteness is weak and wicked and inferior — basically just an errant child who needs to be corrected.”

Asked once if the Five Percent Nation’s symbol held any meaning for him, Jay Z shrugged, “A little bit.”

The symbol, an eight-pointed star with the number 7 in the middle, can be easily seen as a sign of Black empowerment, but I guess it just depends on who you are asking.
