Former Miami Dolphins great and Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino plans on withdrawing from a lawsuit filed against the NFL relating to concussions.
Allegedly, Marino was one of 15 players who filed lawsuit in a federal court in Philadelphia last week. Those 15 players were among the over 4,800 other individuals who claim the NFL misled players about the dangers associated with concussions. However, the league has vehemently denied those claims.
It was reported that Marino’s name was erroneously included in this lawsuit.
A source close to the situation told the Sun-Sentinel, “It was never Marino’s intention to initiate litigation in this case, but to ensure that in the event he had adverse health consequences down the road, he would be covered with health benefits. They are working to correct the error.”
Marino and his lawyers are investigating in an attempt to find out why Marino’s name was implicated as one of the players who filed the concussion-related lawsuit last week.
The NFL and the plaintiffs, who were the original group of players, reached an agreement on a settlement worth $765 million in August 2013.
However, that settlement was denied five months later in January by a federal judge.
