The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is to be conserved in the Library of Congress. The National Recording Preservation Board chooses 25 titles to be inducted each year. These recordings range from single recordings to entire albums, and this year Lauryn Hill’s debut album has made the list.
According to the NRPB page on the Library of Congress website:
Each year since 2002, the National Recording Preservation Board (NRPB) and members of the public have nominated recordings to the National Recording Registry. The depth and breadth of nominations received highlights the richness of the nations’ audio legacy and underscores the importance of assuring the long-term preservation of that legacy for future generations.
The goal of the National Recording Preservation Board is to preserve recordings that are deemed, “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” and are only eligible after 10 years of existence. Essentially, this means that Lauryn Hill has created an audio masterpiece that is very important. This is the icing on the cake for the The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which is universally held as a classic. The LP had won ”Best R&B Album’ and the coveted ‘Album of the Year’ at the 1999 Grammy awards, as well as going over 16x platinum worldwide.
