If you were not watching Monday’s broadcast of Fox & Friends, no one blames you otherwise, you may have missed this thought-provoking questioned poised by Elisabeth Hasselback. When discussing the Black Lives Matter movement in St. Paul, Minnesota where some protesters were heard chanting, ‘Pigs in a blanket, fry ’em like bacon’
While this is not the motto of Black Lives Matter and simply an isolated incident, the protests are happening all across the country. Well it was enough for Elisabeth Hasselback to say to conservative black writer Kevin Johnson, ‘Kevin, why has the Black Lives Matter movement not been classified yet as a hate group? How much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?’
While she simply is asking a ‘harmless’ question, it puts seeds in people’s head to think it should be. She also just asked a ‘harmless’ question when she asked if Sandra Bland’s cigarette could be used as a weapon.
A hate group is actually hard to define, but instead usually hold certain characteristics. None of which apply to Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality. Their mission is against police brutality and abuse of power, not the actual people in uniform. While some rhetoric may appear to suggest otherwise, as in St. Paul, all protests are peaceful and encourage no violence against law enforcement. Unlike the Aryan Brotherhood or KKK.
It is also important to remember this is the hyperbole Fox News takes part in regularly and a Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind survey showed that you are more informed by watching absolutely zero news.
Elisabeth Hasselback, was a contestant on Survivor in the second season and finished in fourth place. She transitioned to co-host of The View for 10 years until she got a job at Fox News co-hosting Fox & Friends . Safe to say, no one has failed upwards better than Hasselback.
