Breaking! SAG-AFTA Foundation Actor/President Courtney B. Vance Makes An Appeal for Striking Performers (Donations Needed)

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Issues Urgent Appeal for Donations to Its Emergency Financial Assistance Program to Support Striking SAG-AFTRA Performers and Their Families

“It’s a massive challenge, but we’re determined to meet this historic moment.” – SAG-AFTRA Foundation President Courtney B. Vance

LOS ANGELES (July 18, 2023) – In the wake of the recently called SAG-AFTRA strike, the non-profit SAG-AFTRA Foundation issued an urgent appeal for donations to support its charitable Emergency Financial Assistance Program, dedicated to providing crucial emergency financial aid to SAG-AFTRA performers in urgent financial need due to the work stoppage.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation President Courtney B. Vance said, “For nearly 40 years, our Foundation’s mission has included providing emergency financial assistance to SAG-AFTRA performers and their families in times of unexpected crises and dire hardship. With 165,000 members on strike for a fair TV, theatrical and streaming contract and no resolution in sight, we must raise critical funds now to not only meet the current need and expected demand, but also to maintain the Foundation’s ongoing assistance programs. It’s a massive challenge, but we’re determined to meet this historic moment. We are asking everyone in our community who has the means to give what they can, and we are deeply grateful for any support our audiences or the public would like to contribute.” Vance continued, “We will do all we can to support one another along the way by strengthening our Emergency Financial Assistance Program.”

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program is the only fund dedicated solely to supporting SAG-AFTRA performers in times of urgent need. The Foundation encourages everyone to join this vital cause by making a donation at: www.sagaftra.foundation/donate.

“The SAG-AFTRA Foundation proudly supports the members of SAG-AFTRA, as well as the WGA, for standing up for a fair and just contract,” said SAG-AFTRA Foundation Executive Director Cyd Wilson. “And the Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program is here to ensure SAG-AFTRA performers and families receive the help they need to weather this challenging period.”

The Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program offers financial assistance grants to current eligible SAG-AFTRA performers facing unexpected life crises, which includes loss of work due to a strike or production shutdown, and can show urgent financial need. Emergency Financial Assistance Grants are issued to help with basic living expenses such as mortgage, rent, utilities, groceries, and medical bills. Additionally, the program provides access to a social worker, additional social services referrals, and free educational opportunities through the Foundation to empower performers during the strike and beyond.

In addition to providing its Emergency Financial Assistance Program, the Foundation will continue to offer all of its no-cost performers programs nationwide, while abiding by SAG-AFTRA’s strike rules for its members, in order for performers to hone their craft and develop new professional skills during the strike.

Several of the Foundation’s facilities recently reopened since the COVID shutdown, including its state-of-the-art voiceover labs and on-camera labs in Los Angeles and New York, where SAG-AFTRA performers can train in voiceover, practice on-camera techniques, receive feedback from engineers and technicians, and discover new talents.

The Foundation also offers free classes in audition technique, money management, self marketing, editing reels and more. There are always classes and workshops being offered to dig deeper into the craft and build business acumen.

In addition, the Foundation will continue to program live and recorded panels and Q&As with top industry leaders and actors working in areas of performance unaffected by the strike including commercials, audiobooks, video games, podcasts and daytime television.

SAG-AFTRA members can create an account to access the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s free programs, resources and services at www.sagaftra.foundation.

Breaking: Former Owner of Atlanta’s The Gathering Spot Files Lawsuit Against Greenwood Owners for Fraud and Deception

Founders Ryan Wilson & TK Petersen of The Gathering Spot

Lawsuit Seeks Millions in Damages and Return of Business to Former Owners

By Dennis Byron | Investigative Journalist

Atlanta, GA – In a shocking turn of events, Ryan Wilson, the former owner of The Gathering Spot, a popular Atlanta-based private membership club, has filed a lawsuit against Greenwood CEO Ryan Glover and Dr. Paul Judge, alleging fraud and deception. The lawsuit, filed in Fulton County Superior Court, accuses Greenwood of failing to fulfill their sales agreement, specifically pertaining to post payments. Additionally, this lawsuit follows the termination of former CFO T’Keel Petersen by Greenwood.

Pictured left to right: Rapper Killer Mike, Paul Judge, Ryan Glover and Ambassador Andrew Young (Greenwood Founders)

The Gathering Spot, known for its exclusive events, networking opportunities, and dedicated community, became a prominent destination for the city’s elite under Wilson’s ownership. However, the recent lawsuit sheds light on a dispute between Wilson and the current owners of Greenwood, which is headed by Ryan Glover (former owner of Bounce TV) and Dr. Paul Judge.

According to legal documents filed in Fulton County Superior Court, the lawsuit claims that Greenwood has reneged on their obligation to make the necessary post payments as agreed upon in their sales agreement. Wilson, who relinquished ownership of The Gathering Spot to Greenwood, is seeking damages in excess of millions of dollars, along with the return of the business to its former owners.

Further complicating matters, the termination of former CFO TKeel Peterson by Greenwood raises questions about the internal operations and financial stability of the company. Peterson, who reportedly played a vital role in managing the financial affairs of The Gathering Spot, was abruptly removed from his position. The circumstances surrounding his termination remain undisclosed.

Legal experts suggest that this lawsuit could have serious implications for both parties involved. If the court finds in favor of Wilson and determines that Greenwood committed fraud or engaged in deceptive practices, the financial consequences could be significant for Glover and Judge, as well as their associated businesses.

The Gathering Spot, once a thriving hub for entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and creatives in Atlanta, now faces an uncertain future. Many members have expressed concerns over the legal proceedings and the potential impact on the club’s operations. The fallout from this lawsuit could have lasting effects on the reputation and sustainability of The Gathering Spot.

Greenwood, a prominent firm associated with Ryan Glover and Dr. Paul Judge, has gained attention in recent years for its focus on economic empowerment within the Black community. However, this lawsuit casts a shadow on their business practices and threatens to undermine their reputation.

Instagram poster wrote the following @justeldredge

It’s all over…although the doors of TGS are still open the spirit in which it existed will never be the same. Ryan @spotonrw and TK @spotontk built something beautiful that almost everyone in Atlanta has experienced. Maybe you were a member, maybe you attended an event, etc somehow or someway this space was special.
Like any space or atmosphere the wrong energy can ruin it. It’s no secret I was NOT a fan of Paul Judge @pauljudge becoming a part of The Gathering Spot. His reputation proceeded him and I have yet to meet a founder who worked with him come out better. Where we are today proves his reputation and rumors of his presence is true.
For that reason is why I was always skeptical of Greenwood. The truth is the entire play was completely deceptive because they took a very emotional time (George Floyd Era) for our people and leveraged our desire for more Black unity as a way to take our money.
Greenwood is not a black-owned bank. Greenwood is a financial Trojan horse created by Black leaders with influence and trust over our people. If you put your money in it you are banking with Coastal Community Bank a white-owned bank with very little to none Black leadership. Those who own Greenwood are responsible for telling us the truth and explaining why they lied. Unfortunately, Greenwood is owned by Paul Judge, Ryan Glover, and one of our talented and most popular leaders (Killer Mike) @killermike as well as one of our most historic icons (Andrew Young) and they both played a part in this betrayal.
Now @greenwood which is really a front for a white institution acquired  @thegatheringspots and they are now allegedly replacing the original Black leadership with a white man. Disappointing is an understatement this is a direct attack on Black people, young Black men, and the spirit of entrepreneurship overall.
The last Fresh Prince pose…a representation that it’s time to move on and prepare for a new chapter. I want to give encouragement to Ryan and TK and thank them for what they did for us. I’m sorry you are going through this but just know the Arc of the Moral Universe is Long but it Bends Toward Justice.
#TGS

Both parties involved have refrained from making public statements regarding the litigation. While efforts to obtain comments from Greenwood CEO Ryan Glover and Dr. Paul Judge have been unsuccessful, it is expected that they will mount a vigorous defense against the allegations put forth by Wilson.

As the legal proceedings continue, industry insiders and members of the Atlanta community will closely monitor the developments in this high-stakes lawsuit. The outcome has the potential to reshape the landscape of Atlanta’s private membership club scene and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on all involved parties.

This is a developing story.

Jonathan Majors: Questioning the Authenticity of Assault Allegations

Investigative reporting by Dennis Byron

In a shocking turn of events, renowned actor Jonathan Majors has found himself entangled in a distressing legal battle. His ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, recently accused him of assault, sending shockwaves through the media and the entertainment industry. However, amidst the allegations, investigative reporter Dennis Byron presents a thought-provoking analysis, suggesting the possibility of false accusations. In this article, we delve into Byron’s findings that challenge the authenticity of the assault claims against Jonathan Majors.

The NYPD now seeks to arrest the ex-girlfriend of Marvel star Jonathan Majors, and charge her with assaulting the actor, Hip Hop Enquirer has learned.

Acting on an assault complaint filed last week by Majors and first reported by Hip Hop Enquirer, the NYPD has issued what is called a probable cause “I-card,” or “Investigation card,” for the London-based woman, Grace Jabbari, according to people with knowledge of the investigation and a copy of the document reviewed by Hip Hop Enquirer.

The electronic document authorizes police to arrest Jabbari on suspicion of third-degree assault if she returns to the US.

“Mr. Majors has been asking for justice as the victim here, and he deserves to have his assailant arrested and brought to court to face the charges against her,” said his defense lawyer, Priya Chaudhry.

Based on these newest developments which now supports Byron’s findings below, he points out the following:

1. Inconsistencies in Jabbari’s Testimonies:

According to Dennis Byron’s investigation, Grace Jabbari’s testimonies display glaring inconsistencies. Byron uncovered discrepancies in the timeline of events and versions of the alleged incident, raising doubts about the reliability of her claims. The presence of such contradictions puts the credibility of the allegations into question.

2. Absence of Collaborative Evidence:

Byron emphasizes that no substantial collaborative evidence has emerged to support Jabbari’s assault accusations against Jonathan Majors. Without any witnesses or corroborating evidence, it becomes challenging to determine the veracity of the allegations. The lack of such evidence raises doubts about the truthfulness of the claims made against the actor.

3. Majors’ Respected Reputation:

Jonathan Majors has built a reputable and well-regarded image within the entertainment industry. Byron highlights this fact, drawing from testimonials and feedback from colleagues, friends, and industry professionals who have worked closely with Majors. Their accounts consistently speak highly of his character, work ethic, and professionalism. Such testimonials bolster the argument that the alleged assault does not align with the actor’s established reputation.

4. Potential Motives and Timing:

Byron delves into the possible motives behind the assault accusations and the suspicious timing of their release. False accusations can sometimes be driven by personal motives, such as seeking revenge or damaging someone’s reputation. Examining the timing and potential motives behind Jabbari’s allegations is crucial in understanding the context in which they arise. Byron raises the question of whether these accusations are politically motivated or a means to gain attention and leverage within the industry.

Conclusion:

Jonathan Majors’ reputation is facing severe jeopardy due to the assault allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. However, Byron’s investigative analysis casts doubt on the authenticity of these claims. The inconsistencies in Jabbari’s testimonies to police, lack of collaborative evidence, and Majors’ esteemed reputation collectively challenge the credibility of the accusations. By examining these factors and considering potential motives and timing, it becomes vital to approach the case with caution and ensure a fair and unbiased handling of the situation. Jonathan Majors, like any other individual, should be entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. As the truth unfolds, it is our responsibility to seek justice and truth, not succumb to unfounded accusations.

The 19th Annual Atlanta Greek Picnic Heats Up The Summer with the Longest-Running Greek Picnic in the Country

The winners of the $10,000 Stroll Off Competition Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated along with Tiwa Works are all smiles on stage at the end of the competition, at the 19th Annual Atlanta Greek Picnic.

Newly reaccredited Morris Brown College was once again the place to be for thousands of HBCU students, alumni, Black sororities, fraternities, and lovers of the HBCU college culture, as they were the host for the 19th Annual Atlanta Greek Picnic (AGP). The 5-day cultural and historical event series took place from June 7-11, 2023 at Morris Brown College, 643 M.L.K. Jr Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30314. In their nearly two decades of existence, AGP would like to not only continue to incorporate rich tradition, build community, and share the values of Divine 9 brotherhood/sisterhood but to also bring awareness about the importance of Mental Health in our community. AGP 2023 was a holistic celebration of black excellence, black culture, and the colleges that activate that culture via undergraduate studies and the Greek letter organizations that all have service to others in their founding. All new for this year, AGP provided safe spaces throughout the campus for attendees to speak with licensed clinical therapists.

It was important to provide more avenues for people of color to seek mental help and to normalize getting therapy. Coming off the success of the Soul Healing Center at the R&B Soul Picnic, another event produced in association with Tiwa WorksAGP had a “Soul Healing Center” onsite where attendees received complimentary 6-10 minute “Soul Healing Chats” with licensed therapist including Joi Britt (LCSW), Jaslyn Bailey (MSW-G, LCSW), Nishee Moore (LAPC), Kiara Smith (LCSW) and Rosetta Delancy (LMSW) curated by The Resource Guild.

Tiwa Works, the founder of AGP, had the same goal each year for the annual picnic.  “The goal is always continued unity, one of the best summer experiences, and continuing to build friendships and bonds that last a lifetime. That is what AGP continues to build and we expect our audience to continue to celebrate each other, and our culture, this year we looked to additionally provide viable solutions to the financial literacy and mental health challenges we are seeing in our community” – Tiwa Works (Founder of AGP)

Attendees this year experienced 5 days full of engaging activities. Kicking off AGP was a D9 Economics Fireside Chat Career & Networking Mixer on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, hosted by Tiwa Works (Investor and Founder of AGP), Jessica Myers (Real Estate Developer), James T. Jones (Expert Business Consult & Entrepreneur), and Eric Lee Usher (Entrepreneur & Founder of Prophytes) at the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs. Following the mixer there was an R&B Experience at Whiskey MistressThursday, June 8, 2023AGP took over Underground Atlanta with an AGP Block Party, where some of the hottest DJs in the country continued the party all night. Last year there were over 2,000 attendees with drinks and bottles flowing, attendees not only experienced the same vibes this year but they received more! Friday, June 9, 2023, was the Social Media Hangout + Brunch experience on the rooftop of Suite Food Lounge. Guests indulged in food, drinks, music, hookah, and an exclusive view of downtown Atlanta with AGP social media friends, including Prophytes Be Like Pyramids and Diamonds, and Black Greek Lifestyle. Friday night was the official welcome to Atlanta – Official AGP Kick-off Party that took place at Opulence Lounge. Saturday, June 10, 2023, began with the AGP Cares Community Service Project which the 19th Annual Atlanta Greek Picnic followed. Attendees were immersed in Black culture and the HBCU experience, including vendors, food trucks, and live music that flooded the campus of Morris Brown College. One of the main attractions at the AGP was the annual Stroll Off where Divine 9 sororities and fraternities compete for a $10,000 prize! The winner of this year’s Stroll Off were the sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. The closeout for the weekend for AGP, Sunday, June 11, 2023, was a live streaming of church followed by Sundaze Brunch at The V Restaurant & Lounge and concluding with Sundaze- Closeout Day Party. The AGP supporting partners this year were The Greek Picnic Network and Prophytes APP. There were several on-site activations from supporting sponsors, including Positive Impact Health Centers, My Black is Beautiful, and Crown Royal.

ERYVE Set to Debut All-New Black-Owned, Innovative Rideshare App Bringing The Power To The People!

0

It’s time to revolutionize rideshare and put money back into the driver’s pockets.

There’s a new kid on the block in the rideshare game. Black-Owned rideshare app, ERYVE, has arrived with the goal of “Revolutionizing Rideshare”. ERYVE has arrived with affordable rides, where riders will be notified every step of the way and with plenty of options on how they would like to ERYVE at their destination. ERYVE also offers great incentive benefits for their drivers including, dibs on profits, choice of location to drive, and low start-up costs to get started. The official spokesperson for ERYVE, had this to say about the new rideshare company,

ERYVE is based in Atlanta but serves the entire state of Georgia. Another perk that makes ERYVE different from other rideshare companies is every passenger gets their own driver and gets a separate pickup. Riders will never have to worry about sharing their ride with other passengers. ERYVE is also keen on empowering its drivers to become their own bosses.

The founder of ERYVE says that rideshare is changing with ERYVE. With ERYVE the power is back in the hand of the driver, they have to make money for their families. Instead of ERYVE owning the drivers, the drivers own the company. It is now time for the city to support the drivers and put the money in their hands.

ERYVE is proving itself as a true revolutionary rideshare app and is looking for drivers with at least +20 years of driving experience who can enlighten and educate others on the road ahead.

DJ Envy, Red Alert, and a host of SheJays Headline Atlanta’s 2nd Annual R&B Soul Picnic and Soul Healing Session Mother’s Day Weekend at Piedmont Park

0
(From L-R: DJ Skillz, DJ Mono, Ed Lover, Ais York (Founder of R&B Soul Picnic/York Promotions), DJ Queen of Spades (Dave Hollister’s Official DJ), DJ Envy (Power 105.1 “The Breakfast Club”), DJ Loui Vee, DJ Boof enjoying a DJ reunion onstage at the 2nd annual R&B Soul Picnic.

The City of Atlanta welcomed back the 2nd Annual R&B Soul Picnic to the largest and most popular park in Atlanta, Piedmont Park during Mother’s Day weekend. As a response to troubling times amid a pre-recession society, the R&B Soul Picnic was an all-day soul-healing experience where the Atlanta community promoted mental health awareness and celebrated R&B music. One of the biggest highlights of this year’s event was the R&B Soul Picnic receiving an official proclamation from the Fulton County Commissioners for the mental health work being done by the R&B Soul Picnic. The Soul Healing Center Guest Therapists came to the stage greeting the entire festival, providing mental health tips and an explanation of what to expect inside the Soul Healing Center where complimentary 6-10 minute “Soul Healing Chats” with licensed therapists took place. One of the many discussion topics that took place was learning how to set boundaries even with family members. Attendees also enjoyed celebrating the Wedding Anniversary of DJ Envy and his wife Gia Casey live at the R&B Soul Picnic.

The two-day music and lifestyle festival in Atlanta, GA was an outdoor concert that catered to mothers, families, and friends with live performances by some of the top DJs in the world. To kickstart the festival mothers, daughters, and families gathered around the stage to recenter themselves with a yoga/meditation session that would bring everyone’s minds and bodies into a positive alignment.  The “SheJays” (Female DJs) such as Traci Steele (Celebrity DJ), DJ Queen of Spades (Dave Hollister’s Official DJ), DJ Suga Shae ( Dj /Host Streetz 94.5),  DJ Yung Red (Core DJs Worldwide), DJ Stormy Monroe (Super Bowl LVII NFL Game Day DJ) and more brought Black Girl Magic all through Piedmont Park. Headliners, DJ Envy (Power 105.1 “The Breakfast Club”) and the Legendary DJ Red Alert (KISS 98.7) did a mashup of a soulful soundtrack for the summer on the 1’s & 2’s as well as DJ Mars (Usher’s Official DJ), DJ Trauma (Dave Chapelle’s Official DJ), DJ Shakim (New Edition’s Official DJ) and many more.  This event paid homage to the DJs who are huge staples in the music culture & community as well as providing a healthy outlet for guests to get the healing they need; whether that be musical, spiritual, and/or emotional.

“This year’s Atlanta R&B Soul Picnic was all about continuing the mission and momentum built last year around soulful healing through music. We will continue to provide a safe space where any and everyone can gather up their families and friends and come on out. My favorite part of the event this year and the year prior was the Soul Healing Center with our licensed mental health specialists, yoga specialists & wellness speakers because we know that’s something truly needed in our community.  We wanted the space to be relaxing, fun, festive, and community-driven,” said Ais York (Founder of R&B Soul Picnic/York Promotions).

Dre Murro Talks About Working with Mr Hanky and More – Exclusive Interview

0

Where are you from originally? Where are you located now?

Originally from Durham, North Carolina. Located in Atlanta, GA.

What are the most important things you want to let fans know about right now?

I’m back after a three-year hiatus with the Afrobeats-inspired single “4 Me Only,” crafted by multi-platinum producer Mr. Hanky! The combination of love, trust, and insecurity themes in my lyrics, paired with Mr. Hanky’s unique sound, make “4 Me Only” a standout track! I’m excited for the world to hear what Hanky and I have been working on. “4 Me Only” is just the tip of the iceberg as the first single from our collaborative EP, dropping later this summer.

How did you get your start in music?

I’ve been singing since I was two, starting in my church’s youth choir near Durham, North Carolina where I was born. Singing in the church choir really molded my voice into what it is today. My first vocal solo was accompanying my Nana during her piano recital at the age of six. I started singing publicly while in elementary school, where I participated in every chorus and talent show offered. I believed even then that I was destined for stardom when I created my own autographed business cards to hand out to my “fans” during my fifth-grade talent show.

From there, I started writing and recording songs in my bedroom; the rest is history. I started to expand my professional abilities on the stage around age 14, and after performing during an Open Mic Night at the Sugar Bar in Manhattan, owned by legendary musical duo Ashford and Simpson, Valerie Simpson joined me onstage to say I was a “very talented young man,” and that she thought I’d have an “incredible music career” ahead.

Things started to take off for me as an artist in 2016 with my debut mixtape, 9INE, which spawned the much-loved track PlayTime, garnering over 200k streams on Pandora. Then in 2017, my Dad and I established 9INE Records, teaming up with EMPIRE for an exclusive distribution deal. This partnership kicked off with the release of my first official single, Know U Know (featuring Young Dolph), produced by the Grammy-nominated Ricky Racks. Throughout 2018, I went on an HBCU college tour and dropped another mixtape, hosted by legendary DJ Bigga Rankin. After collaborating with NC producer Blk Assassin on two EPs (Let’s Talk & Let’s Talk Too) and dropping another self-recorded mixtape (Season 1), I made the big move to Atlanta in 2019. In 2020, I dropped my last full-length project, Her New Favorite before taking a three-year hiatus from the music scene.

How would you describe your sound?

A smooth, provocative tone. Although I definitely consider myself an R&B singer, my voice is unique enough not to fit into any particular genre.

Which songs are you most known for?

“Know U Know (featuring Young Dolph)”, “Water Flow”, “If U Let Me (featuring DeeMan Da Vinci)”

Do you have any collaborations and/or have you performed with any known artists/producers?

Young Dolph/Colonel Loud/Ricky Racks/Mr. Hanky

What do you love most about making music?

What I love most about making music is that, from my perspective, the lyrics I write and sing give me an outlet to express myself while, at the same time, the finished product becomes something that others can also use for expression, or just to vibe out to.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

In 5 years, I definitely see myself becoming solidified within the music industry as an R&B artist. There won’t be a DJ in the nation who doesn’t have a Dre Murro song in rotation. More importantly, I see myself gaining more listeners and cultivating a devout fanbase whose support will take my music to unimaginable heights.
