Birdman’s latest post, however, really spoke volumes, it’s caption may seem simple enough but it had to raise some eyebrows at the sight of the ‘YM’ being dropped from the Cash Money acronym.

If there weren’t any current friction between the dynamic duo of Birdman and Lil Wayne, many wouldn’t really have paid much attention to the caption. When it comes to the music industry, there aren’t many people who have reached the level that Rodney Jerkins has at the relatively young age of 37 years old. Jerkins was born into a musically centered household with his Dad being a minister and his Mother, a choir director. Resident of a small town in the state of New Jersey, Jerkins took on his family tradition of playing classical piano at the young age of 5. However, that would only be his first taste of music and his interest soon began.

There wasn’t a day that went by that Jerkins wasn’t trying to learn everything he could about music all while being influenced by such big-time producers, including the one and only Teddy Riley. He looked up to Riley as a huge inspiration as far as music was concerned and when he got the chance to actually stop by his studio, he didn’t hesitate. Despite their apprehension, his parents accompanied him to the studio and Teddy Riley actually ended up giving them a tour of the studio.

The rest was history, so to speak, with Teddy gradually turning into a mentor for Rodney and eventually landing Jerkins a deal with Riley’s record company. His first glimpse of the music magic he could create came when he went on to write and produce his own gospel rap album titled, On the Move, along with his brother Fred Jerkins III. Jerkins married, Joy Enriquez, on April 4, 2004, and they both have three children together. Their oldest, Rodney David Jr., was born in 2008. They then had a daughter who they named, Heavenly Joy Jerkins, she was born the following year in 2009.  During the year of 2012, they welcomed their third child into the world, another daughter that they named, Hannah Joy Jerkins.

In 1997, however, Jerkins would reveal his true potential on Mary J. Blige’s Share My World album, an album that went on to sell millions and held the smash single, I Can Love You. His work on that album got him recognition as one of the hottest R&B producers in the country, and led to the start of his own label, Darkchild Records.

When you think of Rodney Jerkins, you can’t simply see him talented in one particular area because he helped create musical magic in all aspects. Hip hop entrepreneur, Dame Dash recently sat down with Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” to discuss everything he’s been working on as far as business ventures are concerned. However, things took a turn once Dash was asked about his former business partner, Jay Z, leading to Dame Dash’s name to become a trend on Twitter. The heated conversation began once he was asked by DJ Envy how he first got connected with Jay Z.

“Everybody knows that answer. Do you know the answer?” Dash began, leaving himself on the defense from there on as the interview progressed when the questions continued to pour in.

 “I’m sick of talking about it. Let’s talk about something else… No more Jay Z questions. I’ve answered them all.” Dash stated, referencing his confusion when it comes to the obsession of the media as it relates to his past ventures with Jay Z, whom he’s admitted he hasn’t talked to but twice in 15 years. While Jay Z claims that the two are still on good terms, Dash claims that he’s tired of the media focusing on their past and wants to focus on the future.

Rapper, actor Common, still considers himself highly interested in the role of John Stewart also know as Green Latern despite rumors of choosing him fading away ever since it was announced years prior to 2015. The Academy award winner spoke honestly about the role, giving his thoughts on what being an African American would mean for the role. “It would be great for the world to see” he says.

During an interview with ScreenRant.com, Common went on to explain his opinion when it comes to small amount of African-American superheroes that make it to the big screen.

“We rarely see African-American superheroes or people of color as a superhero. I think it would be great for the world to see, for all nationalities to see a person of color as a superhero, too.” he stated.

Common continued on to discuss his thought process behind studying for the role of Green Latern, stating, “Even the pre-production of getting the ‘go’ and studying Green Lantern. John Stewart is from Detroit, so he was this guy that was really for the community, and I really related to that. He used his powers to help people in the community. I was like, ‘Man, I’m going to be John Stewart, the Green Lantern!’ Unfortunately, it didn’t happen at that time. But maybe the possibility is that it could. I would love to.” he says, according to ScreenRant.com

Regardless of whether or not his interest will spark him landing the role, there’s no denying that Common has serious acting chops with roles in films such “American Gangster” and “Just Wright”. Most notably, the film, “Selma”, which granted him his Academy award win for “Best Original Song.”

Jay Z continues to take the term, ‘entrepreneur’, to a whole other level with his latest business endeavor. Recently, Hov landed the Swedish television and music streaming company, Aspiro, after they were reportedly looking to rejecting the deal made by Jay Z’s Shawn Carter Enterprises.

Their thoughts about rejecting it floated in their minds due to the minority shareholders who had control over 10 percent of the streaming company. However, Jay Z would not be denied and continues to be the one to watch when it comes to making big moves.

Shortly after the new year began, Jay Z didn’t hesitate to put in this $56 million bid for Aspiro, the music streaming company held 500,000 paid users, last December, as well as received high praises from the company’s board. Project Panther Bidco, a branch of Shawn Carter Enterprises had this to say about Aspiro,

“Panther believes that the recent developments in the entertainment industry, with the migration to media streaming, offers great potential for increased entertainment consumption and an opportunity for artists to further promote their music. Panther’s strategic ambition revolves around global expansion and up-scaling of Aspiro’s platform, technology and services,” a spokesperson stated earlier this year, according to Billboard.com.

Just when things were finally getting back on track for Chris Brown, he’s hit with yet another bombshell to join with his many troubles from past years. The 25-year-old superstar was recently back in the headlines over allegedly fathering a child with woman he’d dated, Nia Amey. As a result of this, the rocky relationship with Karrueche Tran has finally seemed to come to an end. Not only has she reportedly began blocking his calls, but her statement following the report spoke volumes of her current state of mind.

“Listen. One can only take so much. The best of luck to Chris and his family. No baby drama for me.” Tran tweeted shortly after hearing about the recent report. While Chris has continued to reach out to make amends with Karrueche, she doesn’t seem to want to resolve things. Even going as far as to begin moving her things out of his place while he’s currently headlining the BTS Tour alongside R&B singer, Trey Songz.

As much as most people would understand Tran’s frustrations, social media is the last place that a person should go to air their emotions. Considering that Chris Brown has tried his best to keep himself out of negativity and keep the media out of his business, Tran’s actions on Twitter suggest that she doesn’t have that same mindset. Granted, she’s upset but picking up the phone still seems like a logical alternative when it comes to cancelling the media frenzy and drama that is sure to follow.

From the outside looking in, calling this situation ‘messy’ would be an understatement but with Chris’s obvious efforts to try and fix things and uplifting social media posts countering Tran’s, shows his maturity in the matter. Who knows how the Chris Brown of a few years ago would’ve handled this situation and his efforts to fix things shouldn’t go un-noticed. We’ll just have to see where this story goes because when it comes to Chris Brown, there’s always more to the story than what the media likes to broadcast.

Recently, a federal jury reached a clear decision that “Blurred Lines”, the 2013 smash hit, infringed on legendary musician, Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up”. As a result, Marvin Gaye’s children were awarded 7. 3 million dollars after the verdict was reached. While both Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams were both held responsible for the lawsuit, there were no fingers pointed at the record company nor rapper, T.I., who was also featured on the song.

Upon reaching the verdict, this lawsuit lasted for over a week and revolved around the belief that both songs shared similarities. Marvin Gaye’s family didn’t back down when it came to fighting hard for the cause. They revealed that upon hearing ‘Blurred Lines’, they heard the similarities right off the bat. However, both Robin Thicke and Pharrell as well as their teams denied the accusation. They fought to prove that neither musician involved Marvin Gaye’s’ hit in the creation of the song, their attorney, Howard King, also had this to say,

“This affects the creativity of young musicians who hope to stand on the shoulders of other musicians,” King stated. “Let my clients go forth and continue to do their magic.”

With the resolution of this lawsuit, hopefully both sides can move on and continue with their lives. While this is a hard hit for both Thicke and Williams, it could serve as a cautionary tale for others in the music industry. Although Sire is cashing in at a young age 50 Cent shared his plans of putting the money into a trust. “He can’t even touch it until he turns 18,” he went on to say. He understands, however, the value of success and continued to speak of how much love he has for his son. “I light up when I talk about him.” Jackson says when asked about Sire.

There’s no surprise to realize that this is a huge payment for a toddler, but it’s also not hard to believe that his father is clearly still a bread-winner in his own right, with a net worth of reportedly $140 million. If that’s not a bit of an indication that 50 Cent is still making the big bucks, 50 Cent has also placed a $1.6 million bet on Floyd Mayweather to successfully defeat Manny Pacquiao in May in anticipation of their fight. “Back in the day, when you heard Timbaland, you knew it was Timbaland. When you heard Pharrell, you knew it was Pharrell. When you heard me, you knew it was me.” Collipark explain, sharing his thoughts on the repetitive tone that music tracks in the present time possess.

The interview also gives his opinion on how to future artists can help in resolving the current problem in black music. Mr Collipark also praised the success of J. Cole’s “2014 Forest Hills Drive ” album sales and stated that with a “hit single”, it could have reached old-school level sales. Another popular topic of discussion when it comes to the rap scene is Iggy Azalea’s rising fame, to which he added that, “I don’t take Iggy serious, like that. It’s almost like asking me how I felt about Sir-Mix-A lot when ‘Baby Got Back’ was out.”

When it comes to African-Americans, Jewish citizens or even the American population, in general, Revlon CEO, Lorenzo Delpani, doesn’t seem to fond of any of us. According to a recent lawsuit, Delpani, the CEO of this popular beauty company, reportedly labeled Americans “dirty”. He also went on to say he could ‘smell’ African Americans, and even stated that Jews ‘stick together’.

These allegations sparked the fuse of a discrimination lawsuit filed by the beauty companys’s senior scientist Alan Meyers. He felt as if he were being discriminated against due to the fact that he is Jewish. Among his allegations, Meyers stated that through the duration of his time at Revlon, Meyers, Delpani would consistently shouted at him and made anti-Semitic slurs and other remarks. Meyers had only been with the company for four years before he was fired.

Revlon, however, denied the allegations, taking it a step further as to say Meyers “repeatedly demonstrated critical lapses in judgment and failed to perform at the high standard we demand of our employees.”

“We will aggressively fight these baseless claims and this frivolous action,” Revlon said.

Finance professor Dr Boyce Watkins, gives his insight on the matter below.

“This is still a one-sided claim, so we have to keep this in mind,” said Dr Watkins. “However, it’s important to remember that there is very little recourse for millions of black people who experience this kind of corporate racism on a daily basis.  This claim is only unique because it was leaked to the public, but how many other business executives are there who have a low opinion of black people while making hiring decisions affecting black people every single day?”

We must point that because this is an ongoing lawsuit, Revlon nor their CEO have been found guilty in the civil suit and they are presumed innocent.

This single gives off a hip hop feel thanks to the lyrical skills of T-Pain who can be heard rapping throughout the song. He definitely gives Lil Wayne a run for his money with flow but it’s clear that the two enjoy working together, it’s evident on the track. Check it out below:

After the recent release of his “Pots & Stove” song featuring a newly-freed Lil Boosie, Scooter takes a different route in terms of this song snippet titled, “Free Guwop”. This single shines light on his association with Gucci Mane.

Chophouze Production provided for Scooter as he delivered this fresh song that pays respect to not only Gucci but everyone struggling on a cell block. While it isn’t clear if or when this single will make an appearance on a future project, anything is possible as the new year inches closer and closer.

The title alone of the brand new VH1 reality show, Sorority Sisters, is enough to spark controversy in itself. After it’s premiere on Monday, December 15th, 2014, it left many members of the African American Greek life heavily critical. This show is executive produced by Robert Horowitz of Juma Entertainment, set in Atlanta, GA, and sent the viewers into a frenzy due to its’ portrayal of sorority sisters. It follows the lives of nine ladies all of whom belong to one of the many prestigious African American sororities and gives us a look into just what it takes to uphold the values of their respective organizations.

First we have Adrene, she is the owner of her own boutique, House of Adrene, and is one of the “it” fashionistas of Atlanta. Unfortunately, her life is anything but a fairytale with the combination of being miles and miles away from her family and a recent break-up with her boyfriend. Adrene can be portrayed as guarded when it comes to those who want to get close to her.

Looks as though things are hitting Safaree Samuels heavier than any of us could’ve expected. While their break-up is still fresh and left in the air in terms of a reunion, it seems as if Safaree is taking drastic measures to release his depression. According to friends of Safaree, he’s in a highly emotional state and has turned to weed to ease his pain.

He’s even gone as far as to talk openly talk about suicide and won’t be trying to get in contact with Nicki Minaj due to her alleged involvement with Meek Mill. He also believes that the close relationship between Nicki and Meek Mill was a force behind the alleged false cheating claims he was accused of.

Safaree’s friends have expressed their concern about things and hope that he can get the help that he needs to get through this rough time. Recently, Nicki Minaj talked with Angie Martinez about the entire ordeal and grew emotional when asked about Safaree. Despite the chaos, however, when asked if there was ever a chance that she and Safaree could work things out, she stated that she doesn’t know what the future holds.

This has to stop. Recently, breaking news has once again come out of New York. As if the police didn’t have enough controversy surrounding them, it seems as if things are about to get a lot worse. A video uploaded on Facebook days ago by a witness shows NYPD officers holding two 12-year-old children in custody for quite some time before seemingly out of nowhere, another cop arrives on the scene and starts repeatedly hitting one of the cuffed young kids. This despicable act was caught on camera as with most issues dealing with police these days, one of the witnesses had this to say in the caption of the recorded video…

“This happened today on my way to the post office. The kids were 12. They had supposedly pushed one of their classmates down. However when the victim was asked, he said those weren’t the guys. They were still taken away. 12. Years. Old.” the witness, Sarah Doneghy went on to write.

As you can see as you watch the video, the witnesses are consistently demanding for the unnecessary brutality to stop and go on to record the scene escalate. One of the young kids handcuffed is even a witness this and after reading the caption, are as innocent as can be. Like many other cases against police, we will see how and if this story is looked into any further but like previous decisions prior to this, I think we may already know the answer to that. However, this video shines a light on the fact that witnesses are no longer simply recording an incident and placing it online but are actually taking a stand and speaking up for what’s right.

Luckily one of the witnesses that was there identified herself as an attorney and she too was extremely upset at the fact the police were abusing the teen while being handcuffed. How will the police explain this obvious assault being committed by one of their own? Just shameful!!!

Tis the season! As the holidays roll around, Ashlee Simpson and her husband, Evan Ross, have a lot to celebrate. After going public with their romance in 2013 and getting married after a few months of dating, the couple is proud to welcome a new addition to their family.

While this will be the couples’ first child together, he or she will be accompanied by Ashlee’s 6-year-old son, Bronx, whom she had with her ex-husband, Pete Wenz. When asked about his state of mind over the many events that have occur ed over this past year, a reflective Evan Ross said, “I got married, I have new music and I’m part of Hunger Games. It’s been a great year.”

While many know him as “Ant” from the hit movie, “ATL” starring Clifford “T.I.” Harris, Evan Ross has made a clear name in Hollywood. Aside from being the son of Diana Ross, whom officiated his wedding to Ashlee Simpson, this child is sure to make him feel like an even bigger star. Let’s not forget Ashlee Simpson whose also no stranger when it comes to celebrity siblings.

A new addition to their family also means a new little cousin for her older sister, singer, Jessica Simpson’s children, Ace and Maxwell. As the couple prepares for such a joyous occasion, the thought of growing their family even more has definitely seemed to cross Evan Ross’s mind. When asked about his plans as far as having more children with his wife, he had this to say to US Weekly magazine..

“I would love to..” “As many as possible.”  Looks like this probably won’t be the last time were congratulating this couple on a new addition to the family. Well wishes to them, there’s sure to be more presents under the tree this year.

It’s official. Tomorrow is officially the last day of the 106 & Park run and the feeling in the air is one that many can’t quite make out. On one hand, we remember the days as a child when we would rush home and get through my homework as fast as possible just so we wouldn’t miss AJ & Free’s comedic hosting and the amazing stars that graced the 106 & Park couch. On the contrary, and in more recent times, it seems as if many of us could go months and months without watching a single episode. What happened?

Over the years, there had been an obvious change not only towards the hosts of 106 & Park but the demeanor of the show as a whole. Don’t get me wrong, change is great and despite how much we loved AJ & Free, seeing new faces on 106 & Park was inevitable due to the new ventures that the former hosts wanted to explore.
