Beyonce’ became the latest celebrity to speak out on the situation in Baltimore when she took to Instagram with this photo and caption.
“People are hurting. Join us in supporting the NAACP to help in the cleanup efforts and to provide housing, food and supplies to those affected by the unrest in Baltimore”
The post is surprising as Beyonce’ has been known to not speak on social issues such as Freddie Gray. She is not the only one however, as many celebrities tend to remain quiet. The unrest in Baltimore has been something that not even this superstar could ignore. While it was simply a call for relief and not so much a political statement, she posted a video previous to the picture that gives a better idea how she personally may feel.
The video, courtesy of Time magazine shows a then and now retrospect of the 1960’s civil rights period and with the year 1968 replaced with 2015. Hopefully, this becomes a trend as in the media age a celebrity like Beyonce’ has more of an influence on these communities than she or others may want to believe. Those two posts allow a small level of solidarity that usually goes missing in Black America.
