Saturday night at KMEL’ Summer Jam in Oakland, California a major announcement was made. Lil Wayne said he, ” I just signed a deal with my mothaf**king idol Jay-Z”.
As most people know by now Lil Wayne has been embroiled in huge lawsuit with Cash Money Records for $51 million dollars. Weezy was owed $10 million for the completion of the Tha Carter V which has not been released yet. What does this deal mean? Will Hov buy out Wayne’s contract?
Lil Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant has clarified the statement to Billboard. Bryant stated, ” The Internet and blogs took his words out of context…When Wayne was speaking about the partnership with Jay-Z, he was speaking about his new deal as an artist owner with Tidal”.
Earlier this month Lil Wayne released his new song ‘Glory’ exclusively on Tidal so the move does not come entirely as a shock. Does this mean that we could finally hear Tha Carter V through Tidal? Or perhaps this will be how we hear the rumored Free Weezy album.
No word from Birdman or Cash Money but the ball seems to be in their court now as Lil Wayne and Jay-Z have made a power play with their Tidal partnership. Clearly you can’t count Jay Z out either.
