Many people around the world continue to use their platform to make a statement, protesting the unjust Mike Brown and Eric Garner decisions. Today, it was Congress’s turn.
Led by Senate chaplain Barry Black, Congressional staffers walked out of their jobs Thursday afternoon as a symbol of solidarity. The powerful image rapidly circulated the web, sending a powerful and encouraging message: black lives matter.
In addition to Congressional staffers, some of your favorite stars and athletes are using their platforms as a way to support this cause and bring more awareness to this ongoing problem. Tyrese, Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, the Brooklyn Nets, and even Jay-Z are just a few.
Many have seen the ‘I Can’t Breathe’ t-shirts that were worn by James and the Brooklyn Nets at Monday night’s basketball game. Jay-Z and Beyonce were instrumental in making that happen by simply making a phone call. Sources say that Jay-Z would have worn the simple t-shirt with a powerful message, but it was two sizes too big.
Whether it is a t-shirt, participating in a die-in, or simple Instagram post, it is nice to see people with a huge influence and following use their platform as a way to make a statement.
