Last Saturday, 23 year-old Daquan Breland, pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder after being formally accused of shooting a toddler dead in his stroller.
Breland is currently being held without a bond after his arraignment on the murder charge. Police had arrested him in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. along with 19-year-old Daquan Wright who is also accused in the slaying death of Antig Hennis.
Officials say that baby Hennis was being pushed in a stroller by his parents, while crossing a street in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn when shots rang out. when shots broke out. One of the bullets struck the child in the face who later died at the hospital.
Officials speaking to the New York Post related that witnesses said that Breland had the gun that shot Hennis and that he actually intended to shoot the boy’s father, 21-year-old Anthony Hennis.
Sources also stated that Breland told one of his friends, “I just shot that mother[expletive],” speaking of Anthony Hennis.
The gun used has not yet been recovered, according to New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. Anthony Hennis wasn’t being cooperative with the investigation which leaves an open question of motive.
