During an interview with Angie Martinez for Power 105, Nas was a little irritated when a fan called and suggested Angie to play “Ether” during the radio show. When asked about it he replied by simply saying the song is “old.”
“It’s just old…I mean, I don’t feel anything from it,” Nas said. “I just—It’s old. It’s so old. It’s another chapter. It’s old. Classic for sure. History even. I haven’t heard that thing in [awhile]. I don’t listen to that. That or the other thing…He knows that. I told him ‘I can’t listen to this.’ I mean, it’s great. It’s great times, but that was then…But that’s my dog. So, that was a different time. That’s my dog. It’s too good right now. Everything is right…History is history. Can’t change history. It is what it is, but it’s love.”
“Ether” is the 2001 diss record he recorded during his feud with fellow rapper Jay Z and is also a response to Hova’s “Takeover.” Also, he explained that he and Jay are now good friends, so why bring up the past.
“Hip Hop has to thank God for Jay-Z,” Nas said. “The fact that Nas Says Ether Is “Irrelevant” Now And New Music Is Coming soon that he’s doing what he’s doing is an awakening call for all the Gods and Earths to wake up and understand that this generation is bigger than what we can even fathom. He is one of the only ones out of the whole community that we grew up in, from the Run DMC days, who’s taken this shit seriously, taken this shit very seriously musically and businesses wise. That’s powerful. So you’ve gotta respect him.”
Later Nas also spoke about his new documentary, “Time Is Illmatic,” which is being released today (October 2nd) and his interest in the upcoming N.W.A. biopic, called Straight Outta Compton.
“It’s going to cable after the theaters,” he said. “People were excited last night. You never know what someone’s gonna think if they watching something about you. But it’s cool because I would like to see documentaries. I’m excited about the N.W.A movie. That’s a whole movie. That’s not a documentary…I love seeing behind the scenes on people and stuff.”
Nas also stated to expect new music soon.
