Last week there was no indictment against former officer Darren Wilson for the killing of unarmed teenager Mike Brown, and this week, there will be no indictment against NYPD cop Daniel Pantaleo for the killing of 43-year old, Eric Garner.
Today a grand jury voted not to indict Officer Pantaleo for the for the death of Garner. Pantaleo placed Garner in a chokehold from which he later died.
The video of Eric Garner being put in a chokehold by police went viral just days after it happened. In the video it shows Garner telling police to leave him be, after being suspected of selling loose cigarettes. Although Eric Garner was objecting to him being arrested, he was not aggressive, only stating that he wished to be left alone. This resulted in cops tussling Garner to the ground and later entering him into a chokehold that caused his death. In the video, Garner could be heard telling officers that he could not breathe. To be exact, Mr. Garner said eleven times “I Can’t Breathe” however his cries went unnoticed by the cops restraining him.
