Earlier this week on Monday, January 31, The View cohost, Whoopi Goldberg was suspended for remarks she made concerning the Holocaust.

The show’s hosts were discussing the recent decision of a Tennessee school to ban the 1980 book Maus which is a graphic novel by cartoonist Art Spiegelman that depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor.

During the discussion, Goldberg made claims that the Holocaust “was not about race,”  but instead about “man’s inhumanity to man” and involved “two white groups of people. This sparked outrage amongst some viewers, causing Goldberg to be suspended from the show for two weeks on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

ABC News President, Kim Godwin, said Goldberg was asked “to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments” throughout her suspension. This comes after Goldberg served as a special guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and further explained the comments she made earlier in the day, where she eventually issued an apology on Twitter.

During the next day’s showing of The View, Goldberg even apologized for her comments, stating that she had made a poor choice of words. However, her apologies were not enough for some causing her to be suspended from the show.

Goldberg’s removal from the program has since drawn some critics who say the network’s decision to suspend the cohost was too rash and a missed learning opportunity for the network, as the Holocaust is a sensitive topic that is rarely discussed on air. This situation has sparked a “cancel culture” frenzy spurring strong emotions on both sides of the argument as to whether the liberal actor should be canceled or corrected about her comments.

Previous public figures who have come under fire for their comments concerning Jewish people include actor Nick Cannon who was fired from his MTV show Wild ’N Out by the program’s parent company ViacomCBS for comments they said “promoted hateful speech.”

In the episode of Cannon’s Class, the 41-year-old host interviewed former Public Enemy rapper Professor Griff who left the rap group in 1989 after claiming that Jewish people were “wicked.” Professor Griff then went on to state that he was talking about the Jewish people controlling the media and said “I’m hated now because I told the truth,” where Cannon agreed with him and even stated that “Semitic people are black people”, and that: “You can’t be anti-Semitic when we are the Semitic people.”

The question of the harshness of cancel culture quickly arises in Goldberg’s scenario as well as many others.

Editor of Jewcy, and online platform for young Jews, Isaac de Castro, took to Twitter to say that Goldberg’s comments reflected the inability of many Americans to understand race and racism outside of their prism, but also added “putting a grown woman in a time-out” does little to advance a reckoning with Jewish identity.

In recent times it appears as though the rules seem to be more enforced when it comes to Black public figures versus their non Black counterparts. In 2015 Kelly Osbourne said on an episode of The View about then presidential candidate Donald Trump, “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?” Osborne questioned.

Other cohost of the show which included Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie Perez, Michelle Collins and Raven-Symoné can be heard disagreeing with Osborne, where she later began to backtrack her comments.

Perez even corrected Osbourne saying, “Latinos are not the only people that do that.”

Osbourne later apologized, however no dramatic action was taken against her such as removing her from the show.

Giuliana Rancic was reprimanded back in 2015 for her stereotypical comments on the hit show Fashion Police where she stated that actor Zenday’s dreadlocked hair looked like it “smells like patchouli oil and weed.”

Rancic later apologized, however was not faced with removal from the show. Beauty moguls such as Jeffree Star have even made a multitude of racist remarks as well as had problematic instances and yet still seem to be mostly unaffected by cancel culture.

However, stars like Roseanne Barr have faced the consequences of their ignorant, racist comments, by having their shows cancelled. The discussion of cancelling individuals rather than educating them becomes a problem when the person who made the offensive comments has apologized and is willing to learn from their mistake, just as Goldberg has done.

ABC has not made any further comment on whether or not they plan to keep the suspension in place as of late or what they will do once Goldberg returns to the show. Check out the link below to see some of the segment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhITfM4bqO8

OutKast had Atlanta jumping last weekend with their historic return home with their ATLast concert performances. The Dungeon Family was all over the scene throughout the city and the party will keep rocking this month as Killer Mike will headline Dungeons & Dragons: The Real A-Town Experience on Friday, October at The Loft. Hosted by Fort Knox, the D.F. Reunion will also feature performances from Cool Breeze, Slim Calhoun, EJ Da Witchdoctor, Backbone, Blackowned C-Bone, Lil Will, Scotty ATL and more. Speaking of uniting with his day one crew, Killa Kill stated,

“Over the last few weeks, we’ve witnessed several great moments for Atlanta Hip-Hop. The ‘ATL: The Untold Story of Atlanta’s Rise in the Rap Game’ documentary took us back to where it all started. The Outkast #ATLast weekend was historic on so many levels. Not only did it remind us of where Outkast took the game, and the many artists that were ready to prove that “The South had something to say” when ‘Kast proclaimed; but also, with the inclusion of artists like K Camp, Childish Gambino, Raury, B.O.B. and Rae Sremmurd, showing us how many new voices are ready to keep our voice strong. So I figured, what better time to celebrate to celebrate the second wave of artists to come out of the Dungeon Family. Cool Breeze, Slim Calhoun, Blackowned C-Bone, EJ Da Witchdoctor, Backbone, Lil Will and myself have all contributed classic material to reinforce Atlanta’s place in Hip-Hop. And Scotty ATL has proven time and again that he is ready to carry that torch.”

Killer Mike was also in the building this past Saturday as Organized Noize hosted the ATLast official after party at 595 North produced by The Muddy Water Group.  With an abundance of Dungeon Family hits rocking the whole night, Big Rube also celebrated his birthday as Ray Murray, Mr. DJ, and Kawan “KP” Prathar manned the wheels of steel. Rico Wade, Sleepy Brown and Slim Calhoun were also in the building. Peep a few of the flicks now provided by  InspireMagAtl.com.

Outkast has recently been busy with what may be their final tour. The Atlanta duo reunited back in April at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Fest and since has been touring the world in celebration of their 20th anniversary as a musical group. It was recently announced that Outkast will be taking their victory lap where it all started.  This week Big Boi and Andre 3000 announced their plans for a homecoming concert back in Atlanta. The event will be held at Centennial Olympic Park on September 27th.

“It’s only right that we give the hometown what we’ve been giving the rest of the world, Atliens in ATL, homecoming! Festival Killers,” comments Big Boi in a statement made to Billboard.

“Coming from Atlanta gave us the freedom to be whatever we ever wanted to be because no one was paying attention. Now that everyone is, we want to say thank you,” added André 3000.

Outkast-at-lastThe duo definitely has a big place in their hearts for Atlanta and their appreciation for all that their hometown has done for their movement shows.  If you are in the Atlanta area, this is definitely a show that you don’t want to miss.  From the flyer you can see that some special guest will be in attendance as well.

Tickets are not on sale as of yet, but you can go to Outkastatllast.com for more information.

Big Boi and Andre 3000 were definitely worth the wait as they performed for over an hour and a half but Coachella dropped the ball as they cut the lights out on Hip-Hop’s greatest duo and didn’t allow them to close out the show with a bang.

Coachella’s lack luster crowd also didn’t appear to know that they were standing in the presence of Hip-Hop royalty.

These festival performances are cool but the millions of fans who would’ve appreciated the show saw the iconic performance on the Internet.

The last time we heard from the Cool Kids was with their debut studio album When Fish Ride Bicycles back in 2011 along with some mixtapes. Since then, both have been working as solo artists and building their own individual brands. Things began to shift in 2013 with the Cool Kids linking back up to release “Swervin”. Along with the release of Shark Week, Chuck Inglish also plans to release his solo debut album Convertibles. 2014 is shaping up to be a great year for rap with the Cool Kids joining Outkast and Clipse who are both scheduled for reunions this year.

It’s been a while since we’ve had any new material from OutKast’s Andre 3000 and his Goodie M.O.b homeboys spoke with MTV and explained why Dre has been like a chameleon for over the past years.

Cee-Lo revealed,

“He just said he had a severe case of stage fright and just kind of been away from the game and didn’t know if he could truly live up — ah, I just feel like I’m talking to much personal stuff. I hope he don’t mind. But he said he was bothered by this bar that had been set and maybe he’d want to do something different. And he’ll always be his worst competition, worst critic. And maybe he don’t wanna live up to what people think he should do.”

On the rumor mill, Dre is alleged to be gearing to drop a new album sometime by early next year. Let’s hope but until then peep as the D.F. explain 3 stacks hiatus.

Reported by Dennis Byron

Hip Hop Enquirer broke the story. Earlier today, Mrs. Sharon Benjamin Hodo, the mother of rap superstar Andre “3000” Benjamin passed away in her sleep according to a close family member. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Mrs. Sharon Benjamin, affectionately known as “Ma Benjaman, Ms. B, and Nana,” died at the age of 58 and was a key player in the lives of OutKast during their formative teenage years as they grew into adulthood and served as one of the managers for “her boys” earlier in their career.

The wife of New Morning Light Baptist Church pastor Robert L Hodo of Conley, Georgia, Mrs. Hodo was also a successful real estate agent in the Atlanta area and was a life coach and game giver to many artists that came up in Tha A.

What makes this even sadder is Dre celebrated his 38th birthday yesterday.

Again our condolences go out to Dre, Big Boi, her grandson Seven and the entire Benjamin-Hodo family.

R.I.P. Mrs. Sharon Benjamin Hodo.

Hip-Hop Enquirer will keep you posted as the story develops.

A milestone has been reached, and we owe a huge applause to the ATLien rap legends of Outkast, Big Boi and Andre 3000, for their 20-year anniversary of their debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. There may be something special coming from the two Georgia Grammy winners, according to an interview with Big Boi on Power 106’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood.

We been kind of discussing some things. Once we map it out, we’ll make an announcement. But we’ll see. It’s 20 years, man. We started out at 15, 16 years old. We made our first album when we were 17 years old. Twenty-five million records later, seven Grammys, I feel great.

Even with Andre 3000’s most recent statement about Outkast not being together, when told by Big Boy that the public is starving for a reunion, Big Boi stated: “I definitely want to see it too. We gon’ see”.

Big Boi’s most recent drop in hip hop was his album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, which debuted at No. 33 , selling 30,000 copies.

T.I. Explains Why He Believes Outkast Is Afraid of a Reunion (Video Inside) https://hiphopenquirer.com/2013/01/30/t-i-tells-why-he-believes-outkast-is-afraid-of-a-reunion-video-inside/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2013/01/30/t-i-tells-why-he-believes-outkast-is-afraid-of-a-reunion-video-inside/#respond Wed, 30 Jan 2013 16:10:17 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=39039 T.I.

T.I. is aware that fans are itching for an Outkast reunion, and he decided to give his take on why he thinks the duo may be reluctant to dropping some fresh material.

According to The Urban Daily, T.I. thinks that we haven’t seen Big Boi and Andre 3000 link up because of the artists’ own fear and concerns.

From me speaking to Dre man I heard him being open to it, I really did. I think his concern is do the kids right now who are young and buying music care enough about an Outkast album for it to make a difference. Which is the same concern that I hear from other people that we all love and respect in this industry like Dr. Dre. I was working with Doc on “Detox” and that was his same concern. Of course we’re looking at them like we have such huge admiration for them for what they’ve done in the past, but they are looking at themselves kind of like ‘What do I mean to the young kid of today that is going out there to buy music?’ That’s what the struggle is. (The Urban Daily)

Even with T.I.’s perspective on the Outkast reunion issues, he admitted his love for the group, saying:

It’s not whether or not they want to do it, it’s whether they feel like it’s significant enough to be done. Nobody wants to tarnish their reputation or legacy with a lackluster presentation or poorly received album after having such a decorated past. That’s a lot of pressure for cats like that. But I know one thing, all you gotta do is let me know it’s coming out and I’m there. That’s just me. And I’m gonna make sure my kids listen to it and that they know how important it is to culture. If you are an admirer of music today you need to know what set the stage for all of your favorite artists right here right now to do it. (The Urban Daily)

We want to know what you think about an Outkast reunion. Comment in the section below and take a look at this recent T.I. video/short film “Trap Back Jumpin” below:

Andre 3000 Sets the Record Straight on “OutKast Collaborations”, Says “I Never Want To Mislead Our Audience” https://hiphopenquirer.com/2013/01/15/andre-3000-sets-the-record-straight-on-outkast-collaborations-says-i-never-want-to-mislead-our-audience/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2013/01/15/andre-3000-sets-the-record-straight-on-outkast-collaborations-says-i-never-want-to-mislead-our-audience/#respond Tue, 15 Jan 2013 20:43:18 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=37833 andre 3000

Thanks for smashing all of our Outkast reunion dreams, Andre. In a recent exclusive with Spin Magazine, Andre 3000 revealed that the new songs we’ve been hearing such as the “Pink Matter (Remix)” featuring Big Boi aren’t Outkast collabos. The Atlanta native clarified that they are only original songs where he originally had a guest verse and Big’s verse was added after the fact as a remix.

Here’s everything Andre had to say:

“It’s important for me to be clear about the origins of my contributions to ‘Pink Matter’ and ‘Sorry.’

I was approached as a solo artist by both Frank Ocean & Tip. I discussed musical direction with each artist and completed my verses. It was after that when Big Boi’s name came up.

I never want to mislead our audience – I worried that some would think these were Outkast collaborations. These songs are not Outkast collaborations. I discussed this rationale with Big, Frank and T.I. and everyone agreed. That is why I was surprised to read about these remixes.

I understand that anyone can put out an unofficial remix to any song but I have an obligation to be honest with fans about what this is … and what it isn’t.”

So basically Andre is saying don’t hold your breath for an official Outkast collaboration anytime soon.   Looks like we’ll be replaying ATLiens and Aquemini waiting for the two to come back for quite a while.

Check out this recent interview where Big Boi discusses the possibility of the two getting back together:

The most respected duo out of the South has teamed up again to assist Frank Ocean on the remix of “Pink Matter”. Andre 3000 was already featured on the original track, but now fellow OutKast member, Big Boi hops on the remix.

Originally Frank Ocean claimed that he wanted both emcees to appear on the original version, but left Big Boi out after Andre 3k decided that he didn’t want an OutKast feature on someone else’s project. Either way, we don’t care how it happened, we’re just happy to hear both voices on one track again!

The Atlanta pioneer rapper also talked in detail about his prostate cancer awareness campaign with Gilette.

Andre is one of hip hop’s most anticipated artists and known for his unique way of lyrical delivery as well as his surprise features on many of listener’s favorite artist albums. Just recently, he finally delivered an overdue hot-sixteen on T.I.’s upcoming album Trouble Man, on the track “Sorry”.
“T.I. and I have been trying to do a song for a long, long time,” he said. “It was always for me, it’s about the actual song or the project. I’m never going to do something just to do it. I went to the studio and checked out some music and as soon as that song came on and his lyrics came on, it kind of hit home for me. It was a song I wanted to be part of.”
Big Boi’s upcoming sophomore album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, Andre explained that his partner would play him songs every other week. He references Big Boi as “Daddy Fat Stacks” and says that he is proud and could only imagine the difficult it is to record an album alone.

“Since he started working on it, he’d come by and play songs every couple weeks or whatever. He finally wrapped it up. He’s actually here in New York promoting it right now and I think it comes out next month, so I’m definitely proud of that dude because we started as two people. I know how hard it is to write your own raps for a whole album.”

When Andre talked with The Wall Street Journal, he told them “I don’t what the future holds for Outkast. He’s been focused on that and I’ve been focusing on the music I’ve been making, films and this great partnership with Gillette,” Andre 3000 said.
Even with a nine year hiatus of the group Outkast, when asked if there will ever be another team album again, Andre didn’t confirm or deny.

In fact, just watch the interview below.

If you are a fan of southern rap, you should be a fan of Big K.R.IT. The Mississippi rapper has been making strides in the game since the release of K.R.I.T. Wuz Here in May 2010. With that release K.R.I.T. was able to gain the attention of Sha Money XL (former president of G-Unit Records) who signed him to Def Jam records. Since being signed to Def Jam, Big K.R.I.T. released his self-produced mixtape Return of 4Eva that had big guests such as David Banner, Ludacris, and Bun B. Big K.R.I.T has been able to make a name for himself based on his throwback southern rap flow, catchy hooks, and praise from critics and fellow artists.

This summer Big K.R.I.T. will be releasing his highly anticipated debut album, Live From the Underground. The album has 16 tracks and features some big names such as Ludacris, 8Ball & MJG, B.B. King, Anthony Hamilton, and others. It is a track-by-track progression that tells Big K.R.I.T.’s story and leaves listeners waiting for the next song. Live From the Underground appeals to the senses due to K.R.I.T.’s lyricism and the funky beats that are reminiscent of groups like Outkast and UGK. Standout tracks on the album are “Cool 2 Be Southern,””What U Mean (ft. Ludacris),” “Yeah Dats Me,” and “Don’t Let Me Down.” “What U Mean” is sure to be a radio hit with it’s bass line and a hook that will surely be stuck in your head.

What You Mean (feat. Ludacris)

The album hits stores June 5th. If you’d like to listen to it, head over to NPR where there is a full stream.

36 year old rapper Antwan Patton aka Big Boi from the famous group OutKast is the latest to have his mug shot appear on the net for possession of an assortment of drugs. According to police reports, the rapper and his entourage was traveling back to Miami from a cruise abroad when passengers smelled what appeared to be marijuana coming from the vicinity of the rapper’s room.

The ship’s crew was alerted and when the ship docked at the Port of Miami, drug sniffing dogs along with the police were waiting on them. The search turned up several narcotics which included Ecstasy, MDMA, Viagra pills and drug paraphernalia. Big Boi was then placed under arrest and charged with three felony counts of drug possession. He was later freed on a $16,000.00 bond.

“While Big Boi was traveling with his group and friends, a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage,” the rapper’s attorney Daniel Kane said in a statement. “I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated.”

Apparently some rappers who engage in drug usage have shifted from using couch medicine or syrup as it is called to crushing Viagra in their weed.

The rapper’s arrest comes just a week after the death of UK recording artist Amy Winehouse. Let’s hope that this is not a pattern coming out of this new generation of hip hop artists.

Patton lives in Atlanta with his wife, Sherlita Patton, their daughter Jordan, son Cross, and another son named Bamboo by another woman.
