But of Course! Cardi B Receives Victory in Federal Lawsuit Against Blogger Tasha K. https://hiphopenquirer.com/2021/07/14/but-of-course-cardi-b-receives-victory-in-federal-lawsuit-against-blogger-tasha-k/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2021/07/14/but-of-course-cardi-b-receives-victory-in-federal-lawsuit-against-blogger-tasha-k/#respond Wed, 14 Jul 2021 12:55:15 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=101877

A Federal judge in Atlanta has completely shut down blogger Tasha K’s frivolous counter lawsuit against rap mega star Cardi B. in a blistering ruling that will likely cost the blogger millions of dollars in legal fees she will have to pay Cardi just based on the bogus filing. The suit stems from Cardi B filing a defamation against the blogger and another woman named Starmarie Jones who made false claims that the famous rapper had an STD which was false.

Credit: Dennis Byron

The court ruled in favor of the rapper, saying the blogger, Latasha K, couldn’t prove Cardi was connected to the assault and emotional distress she claims to have suffered back in 2019.

In docs, obtained by TMZ, the judge said Latasha “failed to produce any evidence that [Cardi] herself threatened [Latasha] or made her believe that she was going to harm her.”

The judge continued, “Instead, [Latasha] has only made allegations that others who may be associated with [Cardi] made these threats … and has failed to demonstrate here that the threats … were directed by [Cardi]” or committed by anyone working for her.

The federal judge ripped Tasha K., lawyers for handling the filings in a unprofessional manner and stated that he may look into reporting her attorneys to the Georgia bar association for the way they have been handling the case which should have been a red flag for Tasha K. to get a new legal team or abandon her efforts all together; those options are no longer on the table for her now.

When Latasha Kebe filed her countersuit back in 2019, Cardi’s legal team put out the following statement:

“Tasha K’s counterclaims are completely frivolous and have no merit. Tasha K clearly seems to think that this lawsuit and the courts are her social media channel where she thinks that she can say anything she wants, without regard for the truth, harassing Cardi and her friends to try to gain readers to her blogs at the expense of Cardi. This is failing–Tasha’s owns words in interviews and documents show that her claims are completely false.  Cardi fully expects that Tasha K’s claims will be dismissed, and that at the end of this case, Cardi will be victorious and Tasha K will be held accountable for the blatantly false things she has said, written and posted, about Cardi, that Tasha K knew were false.”

Clearly Cardi’s legal team was spot on with this one.

According to our sources closely connected to the case, Cardi B. fully intends to take her case to a jury trial in hopes of making the pay dearly for the pain and suffering she has received because of the lies that were told against her and her family.

At our estimation, Latasha Kebe and company may owe Cardi B over $250,000.00 in legal fees alone just for fighting the frivolous lawsuit which will likely go into the millions if Cardi prevails in her suit.

This is a developing story.

Cardi B is being sued once again for the artwork on her Gangsta B*tch Music Vol. 1 mixtape.

On Thursday, the U.S. District Court Judge Cormac Carney rejected Cardi’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The artwork allegedly violates a man named Kevin Brophy Jr.’s right of publicity and portrays him in a false light. The man on the artwork can be seen with his head in between Cardi’s legs.

The judge ruled that Brophy has a plausible claim for using his likeliness without consent, as most people recognize the Plaintiff by his tiger snake tattoo, which is the same artwork shown on the cover.

“Defendants argue that Plaintiff’s claim fails because he fails to allege that his face was visible or his name was used,” Carney wrote in the order. “Defendants, however, cite no authority for the proposition that a commercial misappropriation claim requires the use of the plaintiff’s face or name. Plaintiff here alleges that his tattoo is part of his likeness because it is unique and distinctive.”

Cardi responded, stating that this lawsuit is disruptive to her life since she is busy with other priorities.

“I’m really upset because I really have to be with my kid. All because of some bullsh*t trying to get money and then $5,000,000,” she stated in her deposition.  “Are you f**king kidding me? That mixtape didn’t even make, not even a million dollars. I got real lawsuits with real sh*t, and I got to deal with this bullsh*t. This is four hours long taking away from my time, my job, my motherhood.”

Cardi B’s Legal Team Slams Blogger in Newest Court Filing ” No Merits Exist in Assault Claim” https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/08/19/cardi-bs-legal-team-slams-blogger-in-newest-court-filing-no-merits-exist-in-assault-claim/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/08/19/cardi-bs-legal-team-slams-blogger-in-newest-court-filing-no-merits-exist-in-assault-claim/#respond Mon, 19 Aug 2019 12:51:00 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=99930 If blogger Tasha K thought she would skate through Cardi B’s lawsuit without a vigorous fight she clearly was mistaken. In a new filing, Cardi’s legal team has essentially told the court that the blogger hasn’t provided any evidence that would support a counter-suit against the platinum selling rapper and that her entire countersuit should be tossed out.

In a desperate attempt to gain sympathy from the court, Tasha K’s pro-bona legal team filed a amended complaint against platinum selling recording artist Cardi B. The blogger alleges that she fears for her life due to the fact the rapper decided not to be silence about how Tasha K has been using her name for clout. This legal battle has stemmed from false claims Latasha Kebe aka Tasha K made about the rapper on a YouTube video where she alleges the rapper had an infectious disease which was proven to be false according to our sources.

Miley Cyrus Faces Backlash for Twerking Videos https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/07/20/miley-cyrus-faces-backlash-for-twerking-videos/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/07/20/miley-cyrus-faces-backlash-for-twerking-videos/#respond Sat, 20 Jul 2019 13:01:37 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=99220

Miley Cyrus faced criticism on Twitter for videos she posted of her twerking to Megan thee Stallion’s Simon Says.

The 26-year-old performed at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, where she famously twerked on Robin Thicke. Many were shocked at her drastic attempt to distance herself from her Hannah Montana persona.

Cyrus posted the twerking videos on Thursday as a way to join the hot girl movement. She can be seen in her at-home workout studio, with the camera set up to record her reflection in the mirror. Megan even quoted the tweet, captioning it “Hot girl Miley ????.” However, the Wrecking Ball singer was quick to face backlash from many people on the internet. One user stated “Love miley but that sh*ts about as jiggly as a brick,” while another user said “watching miley cyrus trying to twerk is painful.”

One user even compared her twerking to Zoey dancing against the cashews in The Proud Family Movie. However, some users did come to her defense, saying that she was just having fun and that she has improved from her past twerking performances.

The singer quickly jumped to her own defense on Instagram after a user commented on whether or not she was good at twerking. Cyrus replied, “Literally doesn’t matter! Dancing health benefits: improved condition of your heart and lungs. increased muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness. increased aerobic fitness. improved muscle tone and strength. stronger bones and reduced risk of osteoporosis. better coordination, agility and flexibility. YASS PLEASE.”

Singer R. Kelly is in a Chicago federal court for his first bond hearing stemming from last week’s arrest of sex-trafficking and obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors made it clear this afternoon that they oppose any bond for the singer claiming he’s a threat to the community, especially to minors.

“This risk of obstruction is real. This risk is ongoing. This risk is heightened by the defendant’s fame and power,” one assistant U.S. attorney told the judge, Harry Leinenweber. The singer “has a unique ability to influence and intimidate witnesses and victims, and that continues to this day.”

If found guilty, Kelly, 52, could receive a minimum of 15 years behind bars and a maximum sentence of 195 years in prison based on the Chicago charges alone. He has been incarcerated in Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center since agents arrested him near his home in Trump Tower early Thursday evening.

Prosecutors argued Tuesday that home confinement and electronic monitoring would not be sufficient, given the charges against the singer.

“The defendant can entice girls to his own doorstep, he doesn’t have to leave his home to do that,” one told the judge.

Both Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary were seen leaving the courtroom in good spirits along with their attorney Gloria Schmidt.

Blogger Tasha K Makes Frivolous Filing in Lawsuit Against Cardi B; Rapper Contends She’s Clout Chasing https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/07/10/blogger-tasha-k-makes-frivolous-filing-in-lawsuit-against-cardi-b-rapper-contends-shes-clout-chasing/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/07/10/blogger-tasha-k-makes-frivolous-filing-in-lawsuit-against-cardi-b-rapper-contends-shes-clout-chasing/#respond Wed, 10 Jul 2019 21:30:48 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=98837

When all else fails clout chase off a famous celebrity which seems to be the case with blogger Latasha Kebe aka Tasha K. In an amended court-filing by the troubled blogger, she alleges that Cardi B assaulted her even though the two have never met. As comical as the claim sounds, Tasha K. believes in her mind that anyone who opposes her cyber-bullying is a threat to her.

Cardi sued Latasha Kebe and Starmarie Jones earlier this year after the blogger accused her of being “a drug abusing prostitute with an STD”, according to TMZ. Tasha followed by countersuing the rapper for slander, however she is now claiming that Cardi B caused harm to her unborn child.

Latasha claims that the Money rapper and her former roommate, Skeemo, made threats against her, which included violent messages on social media. Additionally, she says Cardi B told gang members to “handle her” which she took as a threat. As a result, Tasha K, who allegedly was in the first trimester of her “high-risk pregnancy” at the time, was put on mandatory bedrest by her doctors, according to TMZ.

She is now claiming that her unborn child has been affected. It is interesting that the blogger lady would have the audacity to make such a claim when she in fact was the one taunting and harassing the rapper via her social platforms with defamatory claims herself.

However, documents state that Cardi B and Latasha were not even in the same room when she and Skeemo allegedly shared “violent” messages about her on the internet. Latasha claims that her fear drove her to call the FBI, but says the agency only suggested she move if she felt so threatened.

Our sources stated that the blogger and her family actually moved earlier because of an unrelated issue and believes the blogger lady is only making these claims now to “trend the internet.” In a previous filing by Cardi B’s legal team, they referred a video Tasha K released with her and video blogger Lovely T, (watch video at the 4:52:00 mark here)where Tasha K is overheard saying that she knew that the claims Starmarie made about Cardi were probably lies but she did it because she wanted to trend the internet (making a video go viral) to gain more views, subscribers, and monetary gain for the story. Cardi’s team believe this is just further proof that the blogger’s counter-suit will be dismissed.

Cardi’s team released an official statement:

As far as Kebe’s claim of fear or threats she alleges were made by gang members, Cardi’s team contends that Kebe herself has gang affiliations. It is a known fact that Kebe has directed a former notorious blood gang-member Yovani Broadus aka Jovi Beauty to harass a member of the media.

Latasha Kebe has also been accused of cyberbullying book author Alana Brown.

This is a developing story.

Justin Bieber Standing by His Man; Defends Manager in Taylor Swift Saga https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/07/05/justin-bieber-standing-by-his-man-defends-manager-in-taylor-swift-saga/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2019/07/05/justin-bieber-standing-by-his-man-defends-manager-in-taylor-swift-saga/#respond Fri, 05 Jul 2019 17:50:55 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=98805 By: Gabrielle Taite

Singer Justin Bieber defended his manager, Scooter Braun, after artist Taylor Swift expressed her anger over Braun acquiring the rights to her master recordings.

Braun recently took over Big Machine Label Group, causing the Blank Space singer to make a lengthy post about how heartbroken she was. Additionally, Swift took to Tumblr saying “Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.”

Swift has also made claims that Braun has recruited Bieber and rapper Kanye West to bully her over the years, as West notoriously interrupted her speech at the 2009 Video Music Awards and in 2016, Bieber posted a screenshot on instagram of him, Braun and West with the caption “Taylor Swift what up.”

Swift’s dispute with West continued as the lyrics “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous” appeared in his song Famous. Both Kanye and Kim Kardashian West have repeatedly made claims that Swift approved over the lyric, however, the pop singer denied these allegation, causing Kim to leak a video of a phone call between West and Swift with her approving the line.

After Swift’s public disapproval of Braun’s newly found ownership, Bieber made a lengthy instagram post defending his manager and stating that both him and Braun have no problems with Swift. However, in the post, Bieber did ask what Swift aimed to gain from going public, even going so far as to write “What were you trying to accomplish with that blog post? Seems to me like it was to get sympathy.”

However, the singer has apparently made claims that he will no longer publicly comment on the dispute, according to the Hot New Hip-Hop website.

R. Kelly’s newest manager is being investigated by Georgia police because of alleged harassing calls being made to Timothy Savage who is the father the of Joycelyn Savage who is currently staying with the Grammy winning singer. The Blast.com is reporting the following:

R. Kelly’s manager Don Russell is reportedly being investigated by the authorities after being accused of threatening alleged victim Joycelyn Savage’s parents, who participated in the Lifetime series Surviving R. Kelly.

Timothy Savage called the cops to his Georgia residence just before 6 a.m. on Jan. 3 after he says he received threats from a man claiming to be Russell, according to a police report obtained by The Blast. Prior to Surviving R. Kelly, Joycelyn’s name came up in relation to claims that she was in a sex cult run by Kelly and she had been brainwashed (claims that she has denied).

Timothy told investigators that they were involved in the docu-series and that Russell sent texts on the day it premiered, stating that “it would be best for him and his family if the documentary does not air.” The cop who took the report also says that a call was made while they were present, and that they heard the caller say that the info the parents were providing Lifetime with was false, and if it ran they’d be forced to disprove the parents’ testimony. The caller further stated that this would destroy Timothy’s “reputation, business, and family” because it would out him as a liar.

Does this sound like harassment or was the manager just doing his job?

Charlie Kirk Denounced By Blacks And #Maga Ignores PR Crisis https://hiphopenquirer.com/2018/10/26/charlie-kirk-denounced-by-blacks-and-maga-ignores-pr-crisis/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2018/10/26/charlie-kirk-denounced-by-blacks-and-maga-ignores-pr-crisis/#respond Fri, 26 Oct 2018 23:04:47 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=96849

First, let me start off by saying Black Trump supporters are free thinkers eager to take a risk that may land them in a better place in life and that is beyond admirable and brave. Everyone should be allowed to choose their walk in life. and I too am a Black Trump supporter.

Now let\s get to the matter at hand. I cried a few times today before I finally got so fed up and contacted my boss to express how upset and disrespected I feel by Republicans and TPUSA.  By the grace of God I have not lost my invite to the barbeque or my many logins to urban media magazines. Thank the lord so I can tell you all the real tea that Conservative media is ignoring and must be addressed.

Charlie Kirk, the “President and CEO” of TPUSA.org is a 24-year-old white man from Chicago Illinois who MAGA has foolishly positioned with so much power that he and his supporters actually believe he impacts black people like MLK did.

I am so furious at this pickle juice and ham sandwich BS I can barely see straight Have these people lost their minds? The black community is a very complex community and one thing  WE do not do is hold national awards or ceremonies and exclude people we don’t like. Yes, the BET Awards invites all the black leaders and seats them accordingly but the CEO at BET knows dividing the black community will kill award show season. They need all the famous celebs who were popping on the charts to attend so their fans will not be disappointed. It is the FANS of these celebs aka BLACK LEADERS that spend the money to keep BET a network. TPUSA is stupid and needs to hire a PUBLICIST or they will fold into themselves in the next few weeks. I promise when I start writing Ithe gloves are off. Just ask Kim Kardashian. Bless her heart.

Well when you don’t actually give a F about the black community you don’t take the time to learn how we operate in our community and what is considered appropriate or not. When someone drags Beyonce or Janet Jackson black twitter will drag them to hell and back again for a retweet. When you paint yourself as an org that is causing some imaginary black exit from the “Democrat Plantation”…. but you have not taken the time to actually study the leaders in that community you break the number 1 rule… Trumpers go hard for Trump. Black people go hard for people we view as black leaders and when you do not acknowledge our leaders you shut your own door TPUSA. TPUSA destroyed their “open to all” image when they invited (baited) a bunch of black people with no resumes or press/red carpet accolades to an event meant to celebrate BLACK LEADERS. You cannot exclude black leaders in a black leader summit and expect all blacks to feel like you aren’t on some BS , It is great for the kids but the actual outcome looks like blatant cult-like non inclusiveness and since the black community is big on having our own so we don’t get excluded seeing an event where we saw not a single face we recognize was the end of buying that lie.

First of all, it is very easy to reach out to prominent blacks in the community to help your event not appear to be using people who really just want to be on the scene and view a meeting at the white house as a “golden ticket” I do not care about being on the scene anymore. I do care about the black community though because I happen to be black and I get so sick and tired of getting my hopes up that we may be experiencing an awakening and new unity but then BAM it’s just another publicity stunt. I need the world to change I need Dems and Republicans to understand that I have been emotionally affected by all of the racial tension in America. I have been stalked. I have had 2 men show up at my house. I have been called Niggers and coons. I have been threatened to be killed and raped for standing with MAGA and to sit here and watch TPUSA disrespect what I and other actual BLACK LEADERS are trying and willing to do with our platforms and putting our lives on the line to be treated as if our presence has no value and can be overruled by a 24yr old white kid, will not be tolerated ever. I have not gone through all of this to be alienated by a 24yr old kid who doesn’t know shit about my life, my struggles or what it has taken to get out of bed for the last 4yrs after I lost my entire family.  I saw maga as my new family I still have hope but they do not hear me on Twitter they treat me like I am just some random acct hating instead of a BLACK LEADER who is valid and has valid concerns

When people treat you like you have no power show them your power with google search engines and put it in a headline before Midterms so people will get the hint,  Do not “David Hogg” black trump supporters with a 24yr old kid who knows nothing about the black community or our leaders, our media personalities, or anyone in the black community.

It is so unwise to piss off a black publicist if you want to have access to platforms that blacks actually look at because the majority of us do not even know who Charlie Kirk is. Kanye West said Candace Owens name and then he allowed them to show up at TMZ with him and that is the only reason anyone black knows who THE HELL he is. They are using Kanye’s fame. Nobody black has been moved by Charlie Kirk except Candace because he pays her to care. So they basically tricked a bunch of blacks who thought the summit would help them, into buying plane tickets and hotels rooms… no seriously…. LOL the saddest part was seeing so many black Trumper’s asking people to help them get to the TPUSA Black Leaders event. Candace Owens and Charlie Kirk love to throw out the words $100,000 when trying to bait a Democrat for a conversation so they can get more clout but god forbid the young black leaders who are literally being used to make Candace Owens appear as some loving, well-received icon in the black community, cannot financially help these kids, help her, with her BS FREAK SHOW PUBLICity STUNT that I am sure she masturbated too last night

No this was not a historic moment for blacks. they hyped it up like all these celebs were gonna be there, and then they Kicked a HOTEP out. YES, a hotep…. Hoteps supported MAGA before the walkaway movement became a hashtag. The blatant not give a crap about the dynamics in the black community by allowing a white man who is 24years old and on the SPLC website as modern day KKK leader, kicking out a hotep who was loyal before Kanye is a PR CRISIS!!!!. I have no words only rage because let’s face it guys. That kid does not have good intentions for me my son any black person. He removed one of the only famous black men from the event and has convinced MAGA that Hotep said something Anti-Semitic… Well I did look into what was said and Anti-Jewish people are not good people but Hotep was not trashing the Jewish faith and the article that was written about him is by the Daily Beast Will Sommer, who has slandered several of my past clients and thrives on the HIT piece. I am disgusted, Hotep was used for months to make TPUSA look like they had black support and is no longer deemed worthy aka they have no need for his Twitter presence anymore and feel like there would be no backlash from blacks if they treated him like he was a subhuman commodity.

To conclude my rant and denouncing of TPUSA’s Charlie Kirk is to say, when you think you can treat people however you want and you assume your associations deem you worthy of dominating and believing you have black royalty status when you ain’t nothing to me or any other black single mothers, because WE KNOW HE DO NOT CARE ABOUT US FOR REAL and has no self awareness at all.

Charlie KKKirk and Candace Owens, you do need to be massively well-liked by BLACKS to keep up any further delusions that millions of us like you and want anything to do with either of you. Walk the talk. Stop tweeting fake bs, and excluding people and being trashy humans and go actually get to know the black community and make a mark that will last on our hearts. All this pretending is over. You need to really do what you keep claiming you are capable of

I will gladly continue to use black media outlets to warn other blacks that ALL black Trumpers are not buying it and TPUSA are trying to trick everyone instead of actually trying to get to know us Shame on Donald Trump if he  fully grasps that they are not well received by the majority of blacks and still keeps trying to force them on us.  No means no.

Please stop doing that you will force blacks to chose and they will not choose Charlie, when feeling like MAGA may have an evil nazi trying to take over the black community.

Editor’s note:

Remember to vote Democrat in the midterm elections. Let’s take our country back!

3rd Annual 2018 Black Music Honors Recap https://hiphopenquirer.com/2018/09/05/3rd-annual-2018-black-music-honors-recap/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2018/09/05/3rd-annual-2018-black-music-honors-recap/#respond Thu, 06 Sep 2018 03:42:00 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=95772 The Black Music Honors held their 3rd annual event a couple weeks ago. The awards show, hosted by Rickey Smiley and Letoya Luckett, was filled with lively performances, and plenty of entertainment. The taped live show, held at Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, Tenn., aired Aug. 16, but views can check here for local showtimes.

Black Music Honors takes the time to celebrate artists who’ve molded black culture and music. Namely by inspiring those that come after them. The show wasn’t lacking in any way, especially when it came to astonishing talent.

A captivating performance paying homage to Bobby Brown by Bel Biv DeVoe moved him to tears. Bobby Brown’s speech recalled his childhood and his desire for a better life. He promised that there is more to come for his fans.

Gospel duo BeBe and CeCe Winans were honored with a breathtaking performance. Donnie McClurkin, Kierra Sheard, Jonathan McReynolds, and Tasha Page-Lockhart delivered a performance for the pair worthy of a standing ovation. Then, in their speech the Winans thanked those who have ever prayed for and supported them, and their family.

Rappers Doug E. Fresh, Monie Love, YoYo, and DJ Mell Star brought us all back with their tribute to Whodini. Singers Demetria McKinney, V. Bozeman and Syleena Johnson gave reverence to Faith Evans. Evans noted that she grew up admiring Stephanie, Bobby, and Whodini.

The night went on to honor Dallas Austin, Luther Vandross, and Stephanie Mills. The evening culminated with thanks from the CEO of Central city Productions and producer of BMH, Don Jackson. Stating that the night was unforgettable, and that the show allows them to celebrate the trailblazers of Black music.

Rappers YG and Big Sean are heated after the NFL & EA Sports censored a specific lyric from their hit single “Big Bank” on the Madden NFL 19 soundtrack.

According to videos posted on Twitter, the lyric that was censored says: “you boys all cap, I’m more Colin Kaepernick.” Kaepernick’s name was reported omitted from the song.

Big Sean took to Twitter to share his disapproval of the power move. “It’s disappointing and appalling @NFL & @EA took @Kaepernick7’s name out of my verse on Big Bank for Madden 19, like it was a curse word,” the rapper wrote. “When he’s not a curse, he’s a gift! Nobody from my team approved any of this.”

YG also showed his disapproval via Instagram  “NFL you owe us an apology.”

After tons of backlash from fans, EA Sports issued an apology for the edit.

“We made an unfortunate mistake with our Madden NFL soundtrack. Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don’t have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn’t affect soundtracks,” the statement reads. “We messed up, and the edit should never have happened. We will make it right, with an update to Madden NFL 19 on August 6 that will include the reference again. We meant no disrespect, and we apologize to Colin, to YG and Big Sean, to the NFL, to all of their fans and our players for this mistake.”

The controversy surrounding Colin Kaepernick and the NFL has been going on for a while now. We all remember that time in 2016 when the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback took a knee during the national anthem. He has since been blacklisted by any team on the NFL. Kaepernick’s heroic stance has inspired many other players to follow his lead, bringing up a conversation about athletes, politics, and police brutality.

BEYONCÉ PARTNERS WITH GOOGLE.ORG IN ANNOUNCING FOUR MORE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HER HOMECOMING SCHOLARS AWARD PROGRAM FOR 2018-2019 FOLLOWING HER SECOND ELECTRIFYING HEADLINING SHOW AT COACHELLA

Queen Bey continues to wow us off stage just as good as she does on the stage. According to PR Newswire Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD initiative has partnered with Google to award four new scholarships to Beyonce’s Homecoming Scholars Award Program. The iconic performer also issues a challenge to other businesses to join Google.org in investing in excellence through education.

Google.org has matched the $100,000 grant Beyoncé announced last week, which will enable four additional HBCUs to receive $25,000 scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year. The schools chosen are Texas Southern University, located in Beyoncé’s home city, Houston, Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, the alma mater of her father, Mathew Knowles. Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. HBCUs are institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with the intention of primarily serving the African-American community.

“Google understands the vital role historically black colleges and universities play in delivering a high quality and culturally responsive education,” states Maab Ibrahim, a Google.org program manager. “In the last several years, Google has launched innovative programs to close the distance between Silicon Valley and HBCUs; we are proud to continue that commitment by matching Beyoncé’s generous donation.”
“Partnering with organizations like Google.org in support of HBCUs is our way of elevating cultural touchstones that paint a clear picture of excellence and opportunity through diverse education,” states Ivy McGregor, Director of Philanthropy and Corporate Relations at Parkwood Entertainment, which houses BeyGOOD. “We challenge other businesses across the country to join us in this commitment to higher education and investment in the future.”
Beyoncé made her historic comeback to the stage after a year off of performing from giving birth to twin babies last year. Beyonce made history at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival by becoming the first Black woman to headline in the festival’s 19-year run.
Beyonce’s show honed in on the excellence in education, preferably an HBCU education during her performance. Her show paid homage to the HBCU tradition of homecoming weekend, the highest display of college pride. The energy-filled production put the spotlight on art and culture, mixing the ancient and the modern, which resonated masterfully through the marching band, performance art, choir, and dance. It was the impetus to mark her second scholarship program.
“As a Morehouse graduate myself, I can attest that HBCUs provide both an excellent educational opportunity, as well as a community of support that lasts a lifetime,” says Steve Pamon, President and COO of Parkwood Entertainment, the company serving as the umbrella for Beyoncé’s production and business ventures.  “The lifeblood of that community is an annual pilgrimage to homecoming.  This scholarship program can ensure that more students will enjoy the HBCU experience that continues to enrich my life.”
Beyonce’s Homecoming Scholars Awards program will give 1 student from  8 HBCU’s a $25K Scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic school year.
The Homecoming Scholars Award Program for 2018-2019 will expand to qualifying students at the universities, regardless of gender.  The disciplines will include literature, creative arts, African-American studies, science, education, business, communications, social sciences, computer science and engineering.  All applicants must maintain a 3.5 GPA or above. All finalists and winners will be selected by the universities. Winners will be announced this summer.

“To Be a Black Girl” An open letter by Yara Shahidi

Google is continuing their Black History Month celebration with their Google Arts & Culture Black History spotlight. In their 2nd installment activist & actress Yara Shahidi pays homage to a long tradition of Black women and changemakers in her open letter and video titled “To Be a Black Girl.” Yara honors Black women and thanks them for the lessons they have taught that have been passed down through generations.

Google has celebrated Black History Month with different representations from arts and culture. They featured a doodle that celebrated the great American Scholar, Carter G. Woodson, who is also known as the  “Father of Black History.” Rapper Nas also teamed up with Google Arts and Culture for a special Black History Month tribute to pay homage to the different generations of Black music. Check out the video below.

To be a black girl is to be one of the reasons the universe thrives.

Our lineage has taught me that I am integral, that we are important, even when society dismisses us, hiding the wonder of our presence, a trail set for and before us by generations of powerful and empowered Black women.

Bell hooks, Angela Davis, Janet Mock, Cicely Tyson, Patrisse Khan-Cullurs – an ever growing list of undisputed change-makers and boundary-expanders.

Each and every one of us, embracing our obligation to serve as a mother-shepherd to our society, experiencing with a knowingness the excruciating pains of labor in hopes that the continual rebirth and evolution of our nation will be one that revels in our existence, that lifts us as empowered beings, and that remembers the tenderness of our care.

A study of my history tells me that I will soar, despite the continuation of oppression, neglect and objectification. We will soar. I’m inspired by my own family of powerful black women, I carry the intention to continue making space for black girls to be black girls.

Bluer eyes may tell us of the glory of “Mary Jane,” but we mustn’t forget the glory from which we came.

Living in our ancestry are the stories of queens, pioneers, mothers, warriors, poets, and unifiers.

As Nikki Giovanni says, “Art is not for the cultivated taste. It is to cultivate taste.” We are the cultivators, uncredited, but ever present.

Colonized by people who truly believed Rock and Roll was an innovation of Elvis Presley, never speaking the name of Sister Rosetta Tharpe – who pioneered the mixture of gospel music with rhythm & blues – but we continue to push forward, sharing and telling of our evolutions.

Knocking down barriers, our achievements, your achievements, my achievements, allow all to rise—from propelling suffrage and civil rights movements, to propelling the first man to the moon.

God bless Black women, in the form of my mommy and caretakers, my aunties and rulebreakers, sisters and sister-friends, who have nurtured both you and me; whose grace under pressure has made it possible for us to be.

In this day and age, the chaos may seem so overwhelming and new, but I turn to the past and see the path that was already cleared by more than just a brave few.

Reflecting upon our vast history, the one thing I know for sure is:

LEADERS – WE ARE ALL LEADERS IN EVERY FORM THAT WE ASSUME

Last Night the 2018 BET Social Awards aired live in Atlanta GA from Tyler Perry Studios. With no hesitation, hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg who’s known for his hit singles “Drop It Like Its Hot” and “Beautiful” featuring Pharrell takes to Instagram to tell BET a few words on how he felt about not being apart of the nominees. Snoop Dogg the co host of “Snoop and Martha Potluck Dinner” relates to himself as being the king of social media while explaining why he deserved a nominee under any category. He also shades rap artist Kanye West by saying:

“Do I need to go all Kanye on Y’all? Go Snatch me an award from a motherf*cker?

Snoop was referring to the moment that we all remember when Kanye West snatched an award out of Taylor Swift’s hand during the 2009 VMA awards because he felt Beyonce was more deserving of the award. He then ends his statement with

“BET get it together I’m not tripping y’all tripping.” #DropsMic.

Well Snoop with this clap back we definitely know you’ll be apart of next years BET Social Awards preferably under the clap back category.

Snoop definitely got his point across some of his followers agreed like reality star and nominee for BET LMAO Social award Tami Roman who agreed by commenting the raising hands emoji, while others may have felt he was doing too much. The Grammy Nominations are in and Jay Z leads the pack with 8 nominations https://hiphopenquirer.com/2017/11/28/breaking-news-the-grammy-nominations-are-in-and-jay-z-leads-the-pack-with-8-nominations/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2017/11/28/breaking-news-the-grammy-nominations-are-in-and-jay-z-leads-the-pack-with-8-nominations/#respond Tue, 28 Nov 2017 17:01:10 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=90659
The 2018 Grammy nominations are in and Jay Z has been nominated for 8 Grammy nominations Including album and song of the year.
Why is this a big deal? Jay Z’s 4:44 album is Jay’Z most vulnerable album of his career. He touched on so many social topics including race, black economics, his marriage infidelities, and black unity. Topics that are normally considered too serious for rap artist to rap about let alone make hit after hit about.
Jay Z along with fellow artist Kendrick Lamar who also received 7 Grammy nominations for his 4th studio album DAMNED created platinum albums off of socially inclined albums. The Story of O.J. is probably one of the most uncomfortable song for the white “Trump Era” of America, was nominated for a song of the year. Jay Z taking home the Grammy for this song will mean 2 things. 1 it will mean the Recording Academy is finally giving the rap legend is just due. 2.) winning album and song of the year means that Hip Hop has taken over in a major way for 2017.
Bruno Mars is also nominated for the big three, and Childish Gambino are also up for major awards. Cardi B, who had one of the year’s biggest hits with “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” earned two nominations: best rap song and best rap performance. Another female rapper scored nominations, too: Rapsody is up for best rap song for “Sassy” and best rap album for “Laila’s Wisdom.” In the latter category, she will compete with Jay-Z, Lamar, Migos and Tyler, the Creator. Snubs include Future, J. Cole and DJ Khaled, who has two of the year’s biggest hits with “Wild Thoughts” and “I’m the One.”

Albums and songs eligible in the 84 categories at the 60th annual Grammys had to be released between Oct. 1, 2016 and Sept. 30, 2017. This year is the first year the Grammys used online voting for its main awards show; it started online voting for the Latin Grammys last year.

The Grammys will air live on CBS from Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, Jan. 28. The final round of Grammy voting runs from Dec. 7-21. Check out the list below.General Field

New Music Alert: Lalah Hathaway “Don’t Give Up” Feat. Lecrae https://hiphopenquirer.com/2017/02/21/new-music-alert-lalah-hathaway-dont-give-up-feat-lecrae/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2017/02/21/new-music-alert-lalah-hathaway-dont-give-up-feat-lecrae/#respond Tue, 21 Feb 2017 20:34:08 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=88386 Today five-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist Lalah Hathaway premieres “Don’t Give Up”, her first single of 2017. The legendary songstress joins forces with three-time Grammy Award-winning wordsmith Lecrae, providing an extra dose of inspiration over the Tiffany Gouche-produced track. “Don’t Give Up” is available to stream today on Soundcloud.com.

“Don’t Give Up” encourages love, patience and faith in times of vulnerability, delivering a moving message of better times soon to come. Hathaway’s revered vocals are complimented by the song’s syncopated bass line, toe-tapping tambourine and velvety-smooth synth, bringing “Don’t Give Up” to life.

“In times like these, this message needs to be sounded loud and clear,” said Hathaway. “We have to be reminded that we are all listening to each other. You are not alone.”

The Recording Academy acknowledged Hathaway with “Best R&B Album” and “Best Traditional R&B Performance” at the 2017 Grammy Awards yesterday. Being awarded “Best Traditional R&B Performance” for her third consecutive year breaks Grammy records, making Hathaway the first vocalist to reach such critical acclaim.

Lecrae

2017 is Hathaway’s fourth consecutive year winning a Grammy, having won “Best Traditional R&B Performance” in 2016, “Best Traditional R&B Performance” in 2015 and “Best R&B Performance” in 2014. She was previously nominated for “Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance” in 2011 and “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance” the year prior.

Hathaway’s impressive vocal capabilities have led to dozens of collaborative opportunities including a track on the “Hidden Figures” soundtrack alongside Pharrell Williams, a feature on Kendrick Lamar’s revolutionary To Pimp a Butterfly album and other collaborative works with the likes of Prince, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Herbie Hancock, Frank Ocean and Snoop Dogg.

A testament to her musicianship, skill and thriving 26-year career, Hathaway has previously shared the bill with the likes of Prince, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Mary J. Blige, Frank Ocean and many more.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Walk The Red Carpet at Producer Guild Awards, Slams Donald Trump’s Immigration Ban https://hiphopenquirer.com/2017/01/29/chrissy-teigen-and-john-legend-walk-the-red-carpet-at-producer-guild-awards-slams-donald-trumps-immigration-ban/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2017/01/29/chrissy-teigen-and-john-legend-walk-the-red-carpet-at-producer-guild-awards-slams-donald-trumps-immigration-ban/#respond Sun, 29 Jan 2017 14:01:50 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=88292 In presenting a clip from “La La Land” at the 28th annual Producers Guild of America Awards, the film’s star, John Legend, took a moment to address Donald Trump’s controversial executive order barring U.S. entry to citizens from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen.

“Los Angeles is the home of so many immigrants, so many creative people, so many dreamers, and those of us who work in this business have the privilege of shaping how the rest of the world perceives this country we love,” Legend said. “We are the voice, we are the face of America. Our America is big, it is free, and it is open to dreamers of all races, all countries, all religions. Our vision of America is directly antithetical to that of President Trump. I want to specifically tonight reject his vision and affirm that America has to be better than that.”

One of the awards season’s marquee events, the Producers Guild Awards celebrates the finest producing work of the year, and gives the Guild an opportunity to honor some of the living legends who have shaped the profession.

Presidential Candidate Donald Trump Accused of Welching on 1 Million Dollar Bet, Then Paying Winner with His Charity Funds https://hiphopenquirer.com/2016/09/20/presidential-candidate-donald-trump-accused-welching-1-million-dollar-bet-paying-winner-charity-funds/ https://hiphopenquirer.com/2016/09/20/presidential-candidate-donald-trump-accused-welching-1-million-dollar-bet-paying-winner-charity-funds/#respond Tue, 20 Sep 2016 21:24:01 +0000 https://hiphopenquirer.com/?p=86495 donald-trump-grow-up
This is like scene from a bad movie as more evidence of Donald Trump’s unethical and illegal business practices has come to light according to a recent Daily News story where they are reporting that Trump reneged a 1 million dollar bet during a golf game where the winner sunk a hole-one shot. Everything was great until the man tried to collect his winnings.

Donald Trump once refused to pay a winner of a hole-in-one contest $1 million during a 2010 golf tournament, prompting the competition’s angry winner to sue the mogul, recently unearthed documents from the lawsuit show.
And when the GOP nominee finally settled the suit for $158,000, he did so with money from his charitable foundation, which is illegal.
The claims add to mounting allegations surrounding Trump’s ethics as a business person as well as the legal and ethical questions surrounding his charity, the Donald J. Trump Foundation.

The country club legal calamity arose in August 2010, after Martin Greenberg hit a hole-in-one on the 13th hole while playing in a for-charity tournament at the Trump National Golf Club, Westchester, in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.

“Clearly the Trump Foundation is as much a charitable organization as Trump University is an institute of higher education,” the Hillary Clinton campaign said in a statement. “Once again, Trump has proven himself a fraud who believes the rules don’t apply to him.”
“Trump cannot be trusted with his own charity, but we are supposed to believe he can manage the nation’s treasury?” Senator Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) tweeted.

If this is not more reason for Donald Trump to release his tax returns then nothing is. Why would a purported billionaire not want to release his tax returns if there is nothing to hide? Donald Trump needs a presidential win because that essentially would make his troubles go away. More is at stake than a loss of the presidency.
We recently spoke with former presidential candidate Reverend Al Sharpton at the Triumph Awards and asked him “Would Barack Obama be in the White House if he failed to show his tax returns? Sharpton was quick to respond: “Not only he would not have been elected President but had to release his own tax returns when he ran for president in 2004.
