Given the alleged selling of the Young Money masters to Universal Music Group for $100 million which reportedly included much of Nicki Minaj’s music and Drake’s pre-2018 catalog, as well as his political and love life drama, Lil Wayne has been making headlines this year. Although Tunechi has been in the news quite often lately, he is ending the year strong. With the recent release of the B side to “No Ceilings 3”, Lil Wayne shakes up hip hop with this long awaited upgrade to his musical greatness.

After Big Sean released snippets of his addition to the album, fans knew to expect much more music. What fans didn’t expect was Lil Wayne’s appreciation for Lil Baby’s music by including remixes of “Sum 2 Prove” as well as “Low Down.” Using Lil Baby’s instrumental, Tunechi completely transforms the song while expressing his classically humorous sexual puns, street life, and amusing references. Things between the valet and Fetty got very heated and Fetty eventually punched the man at least three times, according to hotel staffers. One of the workers made a citizen’s arrest, as he held Fetty until the Las Vegas Metro PD arrived to take him into custody, according to TMZ.

After he was taken in, he was booked for three counts of misdemeanor battery, seemingly a charge for each punch he allegedly threw. However, Fetty was only in jail for several hours before he was released. His court date with the judge will likely be sometime soon.

Fetty is no stranger to run-ins with the law. Back in June, he allegedly assaulted a woman on the set of his music video, and was later put under investigation for felony battery, according to TMZ. He has not yet been charged for the alleged assault.

Fetty Wap and his team have yet to comment on the Vegas altercation.

In his recent Netflix documentary, Travis Scott: Look Mom I Can Fly, there is a part where the rapper is visibly upset when he loses to Cardi B in taking home the Grammy for the Best Rap Album for Invasion if Privacy. This caused many fans to believe that Travis was mad at Cardi.

Sources close to Travis said his disappointment was nothing personal against Cardi, according to TMZ. They said that he was mostly upset because of all the hard work that he had put into his 2018 album, ASTROWORLD. Simply put, he really wanted to win the Grammy. However, they say he quickly got over the loss.

Cardi even defended herself on Twitter against some of Travis’ fans saying, “I wasn’t even thinking of winning or even the Grammies. All I can think about was…everybody is disappointed in me, am I still going to have a career after this baby? Is this album going to make me or break me ? I need to finish before I start showing.”

She continued, “So when I won a Grammy for it I didn’t have no words to say but when I went home I started reminiscing on what I went thru during that period I was like YEA BITCH YOU DESERVE THIS SHIT! And until this day my shit still charting.”

Cardi and Travis have reportedly always been cool with each other. Cardi’s husband Offset even attended the Netflix premiere for the documentary. Travis has a long history of working with members of the Migos, as he was featured on their song Kelly Price, and even has a collaborative album with Quavo.

As shown in the documentary, Travis will only use the loss as motivation for the future.

Drake kicks back and celebrates the Toronto Raptors’ NBA Championship victory onstage in his new Money in the Grave music video which dropped on Monday.

In the video, Drake can be seen exiting a vehicle while an excavator digs out a grave nearby. Throughout the clip, the Canadian rapper hangs out on a basketball court and sips some wine, all while sporting 14-year-old LeBron James Jr.’s Strive For Greatness AAU team jersey. LeBron James Sr. even took notice, commenting “So tough!!!” followed by a bunch of fire emojis.

Meanwhile, Rick Ross smokes a cigar and performs live at Toronto’s OVO Fest after the team’s victory. Ross can also be seen rocking a Percy “Master P” Miller jersey. Miller played for the team in the 1999 pre-season.

The two collaborated on the song in June after the Raptors’ NBA win, according to Rolling Stone. They also got together shortly after in July for another single, Gold Roses. The song is Drake’s most popular on Spotify.

P Diddy recently showed his support for long-time pal Jay Z, and clapped back at those criticizing him for his NFL partnership.

Jay Z previously announced his partnership with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell earlier this month. Roc Nation will provide music, entertainment and social justice efforts for the league, according to TMZ.

This deal caused some backlash, as many believe Jay turned his back on former 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. The rapper has publicly supported Kaepernick in the past, however Jay Z has stated that he is trying to turn Kaepernick’s kneeling protest into a “tangible change” for people affected by police brutality.

Diddy took to social media to come out and shown his support for both Jay Z and Kaepernick.

“Hov is one of the greatest to ever do it, he has been there more than anybody from the hip hop culture, including me,” he said. “He always has been so selfless and fights for other people. We as a people can not be divided and conquered at this time!!”

When it comes to Kaepernick, he stated that he will “continue to support him in every way possible.”

He continued to explain why he cares so much about Jay Z’s success.

“I was just watching everything last week but it hurt me to my heart because I know this man personally,” he said. “He’s one of the most genuine and intelligent black leaders we’ve ever had. We cannot go against each other, there’s not enough of us. I applaud Jay Z and I applaud the NFL for bringing him in.”

“I believe in taking action, taking steps towards the right direction and I support all my brothers that are out here taking action,” he said. “Together we are unstoppable. #BLACKEXCELLENCE!!”

Cardi B is being sued once again for the artwork on her Gangsta B*tch Music Vol. 1 mixtape.

On Thursday, the U.S. District Court Judge Cormac Carney rejected Cardi’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The artwork allegedly violates a man named Kevin Brophy Jr.’s right of publicity and portrays him in a false light. The man on the artwork can be seen with his head in between Cardi’s legs.

The judge ruled that Brophy has a plausible claim for using his likeliness without consent, as most people recognize the Plaintiff by his tiger snake tattoo, which is the same artwork shown on the cover.

“Defendants argue that Plaintiff’s claim fails because he fails to allege that his face was visible or his name was used,” Carney wrote in the order. “Defendants, however, cite no authority for the proposition that a commercial misappropriation claim requires the use of the plaintiff’s face or name. Plaintiff here alleges that his tattoo is part of his likeness because it is unique and distinctive.”

Cardi responded, stating that this lawsuit is disruptive to her life since she is busy with other priorities.

“I’m really upset because I really have to be with my kid. All because of some bullsh*t trying to get money and then $5,000,000,” she stated in her deposition.  “Are you f**king kidding me? That mixtape didn’t even make, not even a million dollars. I got real lawsuits with real sh*t, and I got to deal with this bullsh*t. This is four hours long taking away from my time, my job, my motherhood.”

In a recent interview with SiriusXM, award-winning artist Common talked about the changes in his music over the years, specifically why he stopped using homophobic slurs.

During his talk with Urban View host, Clay Cane, the 47-year-old shared an experience which made him realize his wrongdoings.

“Two gentlemen came to me, two guys who were gay came to me at a show. After the show and they said, ‘Common, man, we love your music. We love your music, like your music touches us, but the fact that you’re using the word fag is like, man that hurts us,’” he said. “And it just was like an awakening because it humanized everything that I was saying, and I was only using the word cause it was part of a culture that I grew up in.”

Back in 2007, Common pledged to never use anti-gay lyrics in his songs again, and even took certain words out of his then new album after this realization, according to New Now Next’s website.

He said he know embraces people of all backgrounds.

“I had to grow into the courage and the strength of within self to be like, ‘man, I don’t care what my homies saying,’” he said. “I don’t care what these cats in hip hop saying, this is where I am with it. I’m not homophobic. I embrace people who are gay, who are Christian, Muslim, Jewish. I’m open to human beings and life. So that being said, that was a real pivotal moment for me in changing my perspective.”

Future, 21 Savage and fellow Atlanta rapper Big Bank Black gave back to their community by renting out an entire water park, and helping everyone to stay cool at their unforgettable “Hood Day.”

The rappers hosted the event at Six Flags White Water in Atlanta on Wednesday, according to TMZ. The hip-hop superstars reportedly spent around $300k on the event, which was catered to everyone from their Zone 6 neighborhood. The pool day consisted of free food and drinks and plenty of fun and games in the lazy river.

21 Savage and Big Bank Black joined in on the pool action, and 21 even fell victim to a surprise dunking. Other celebrities who were in attendance included Love & Hip Hop’s Tommie Lee and reality TV star, Shekinah Anderson.

It is unclear whether or not the rappers plan to make this an annual event. Until then, stay cool, everyone!

In a recent interview with VladTV, Nick Cannon addressed Lord Jamar’s claims that nobody in the hood listens to Eminem as well as discussed hip-hop’s alleged demographics.

The Wild ‘n Out star started off by talking about how white women turn artists into superstars. “It’s capitalism at the end of the day,” he said. “Hip Hop music, the people that buy Hip Hop music are white people, specifically white girls. Like if you look at the actual demographics and how it all breaks down, well music in general. Even when you look at the streaming numbers.”

He continued on, “Us as guys, we sit back and we respect cats- we respect Nas, we respect Hov, we respect E-40 and (Ice) Cube and we sit here and talk about them, but we ain’t gonna go out and fanboy for the muthaf**ka. Fanning for somebody is where the money is.”

Cannon even touched on rapper Eminem, stating that he is one of the most marketable performers.

“When you get a blonde-haired white boy that is actually dope, that’s like the second coming of Christ to the music industry,” Cannon said. “Because you gonna get all of the credibility, like dude you can’t deny that he’s dope. He’ll get in front of anybody, battle anybody. Then ,the fact it’s like, ‘Oh sh*t! I can sell and market this muthaf**ka like Pepsi? And he’s crazy and entertaining too? Oh, he’s a superstar. Oh he’s Elvis on crack.'”

Cardi B posted a heated video calling out the New York Police Department for allegedly shutting down her friend’s back-to-school event.

The rapper took to Instagram Tuesday night by posting a video with a little message for the NYPD. She says they used bullying tactics to shut down her friend Star Brim’s school giveaway for the kids. Additionally, Cardi said the event wasn’t even scheduled until later this month on August 27, however once the cops got wind of it, they allegedly called the school’s principal and scared them into backing down.

“The NYPD called the school principal of the location that was having the giveaway and practically scared off the principal and sht,” Cardi said in the video. “And now the s— got shut down. And I find that sht so f*cked up that the NYPD because this is like it’s really for the kids.”

She went on to say, “Fck you and motherf***ing suck a fart and suffocate on it. Fck you!!!” She added a middle finger at the end of the video for good measure.

Brim even supported Cardi’s video by reposting it to her own Instagram page and captioning it with three middle finger emojis and tagging the NYPD. The two have been friends ever since they worked as exotic dancers in New York City, according to All Hip Hop’s website.

Despite her strong words for the cops, Cardi is currently facing her own legal troubles, as she is returning to Queens criminal court yet again to fight allegations that she assaulted two bartending sisters at a College Point strip club. Cardi has since deleted the Instagram video.

Lil Boosie is now facing two felony marijuana possesion charges in Georgia for a drug bust which occurred back in April.

Earlier this year, the Louisiana rapper was pulled over by police in Newnan, Georgia after cops saw his white Dodge Charger swerving in and out of the lanes, and nearly hitting another car. Police later searched the vehicle, where they found a handgun, weed and more than $20,000 in cash.

The D.A. in Coweta County later charged Boosie with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance. They also added on a traffic violation for failure to maintain his lane. They did however decide not to charge him for the handgun possession. Considering he is a convicted felon, a gun charge would not be in his best interests.

It has not been determined why Boosie got a pass with the gun. He had a passenger in the car at the time of the incident, who Boosie claims is his bodyguard. He is also facing the same two drug charges as of now. If convicted, both of them are looking at least one year in prison, depending on how many grams of weed they had.

Boosie is no stranger to drug charges, as he previously served five years in Louisiana for yet another marijuana charge. He was also caught attempting to smuggle drugs into the prison, which added eight years onto his original sentence. However, he was released early and placed on parole until 2018.

It is unclear whether or not the gun charges for the bodyguard have been dropped.

According to new legal documents, federal prosecutors in New York have more than a dozen flight records, hotel receipts, bank records, medical records, birth certificates for a handful of women, and various other business documents. Additionally, they have texts and photos, as well as Uber records.

Some of the hotel receipts included stays at the Planet Hollywood resort in Las Vegas, the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, and the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, according to TMZ.

Prosecutors’ main goal is seemingly to prove that Kelly violated the Mann Act, which states that it is a crime for people to transport people across state lines for illicit sexual purposes.

Kelly is already facing criminal charges in multiple jurisdictions which include New York federal court, Illinois federal court, Illinois state court, and Minnesota state court. Kelly recently attempted to bring lawyer Tom Mesereau onto the case to represent him. Mesereau is most known for getting Michael Jackson acquitted of child molestation in 2005, and getting Robert Blake acquitted of murdering his wife, also in that same year.

The singer is currently sitting in an Illinois jail, as he awaits for his fate to unfold.

Young Thug gathered with friends late Thursday night to throw both an album release party, and his 28th birthday party.

The party was thrown at Beauty & Essex in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. Some celebrities who attended include Ben Simmons, Meek Mill, Gunna, and Johnny Manziel’s ex-girlfriend, Bre Tiesi. Guests were drinking Remy Martin, and even had three special drinks named after some of Young Thugs songs such as Slime, The London, and So Much Fun, which is the name of his new album.

This celebration is vastly different from that of last year when Young Thug threw another birthday/album release party. A police car hit the rapper’s Rolls-Royce, and cops later found a gun in the car. Young Thug ended up getting arrested for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, however the DA ended up dropping the case, citing that there was insufficient evidence.

Cops were unable to find any DNA on the gun found in Young Thugs car, and since there were three people in the vehicle, police could not determine whose gun it was. He was not faced with any felony charges.

Luckily for Young Thug there was none of that this year, and everyone appeared to be having a great time.

NBA Youngboy has been released from jail after serving nearly three months for his involvement in a Miami shooting that left his girlfriend injured in May of this year.

The 19-year-old had been behind bars since May 17 after violating his probation by getting involved in a shooting outside of the Trump International Hotel, according to TMZ. However, his attorney, James Manasseh, said that Youngboy was the victim of an assassination attempt. Youngboy was set to perform at Rolling Loud when the gunmen opened fire on the rapper and several of his friends. The rapper and his crew returned gunshots, but in the end, one bystander was left dead and Youngboy’s girlfriend suffered a gunshot wound.

Following the incident, a judge determined that Youngboy had violated his probation, which stems from an August 2017 sentence, even though he was the target of the shooting. He took to social media to threaten retaliation for the shooting, even though he was previously ordered to stay off of social media.

Online jail records show that NBA Youngboy was released from East Baton Rouge Parish Prison early Thursday morning, and was greeted by his family. His mother even captured the reunion for social media. Other cameras were also there to witness the No Smoke rapper become a free man again.

Khalid has announced a benefit concert following the El Paso mass shooting which left 20 people dead on Aug. 3.

The 21-year-old grew up in a military family and finished high school in El Paso. He even acknowledges the city on the title track to his 2017 album American Teen and in 2018 with his Suncity EP. Additionally, he donated backpacks full of school supplies to El Paso students through his Great Khalid Foundation earlier this summer, according to Pitchfork.

The concert will take place on Sunday, Sept. 1 at the University of Texas at El Paso’s Don Haskins Center. Proceeds from the show will support the El Paso Shooting Victim’s Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation.

Khalid said that he aims to give back to the El Paso community during this tragic time.

“I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily,” he said in a statement. “I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me. Please come out and let’s heal together through music while raising money to help those who need it.”

He said that the city will always hold a special place in his heart.

“I didn’t feel like I had a home until I moved to El Paso,” he  said in a USA Today interview back in 2017. “The love and the friendships I made were influential. El Paso is where I started. I don’t feel like I’d be making the music I’m making now if I hadn’t gone there.”

The case outraged many, as the “victim” and another male can clearly be seen in a video harassing Rocky and his crew beforehand. Some even argued that his arrest was racially motivated, including Rocky’s mother and rapper G-Eazy. The inhumane jail conditions in which Rocky was left in also upset many. President Donald Trump even got involved after reportedly hearing about the case through Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

After a three-day trial, Swedish judges allowed Rocky to come back to America while they decided the verdict.

The four judges came to the conclusion today that Rocky is guilty of assaulting the man during the street fight, according to TMZ. They stated that the rapper and his two friends “were not in a situation where they were entitled to self-defense.”

Rocky is now left with a suspended sentence, which means that he’ll have to pay various fines and fees. The judges apparently felt Rocky and his co-defendants got enough punishment with the one month time period served in a Swedish jail.

The assault charges mainly come from Rocky and his crew hitting and kicking the victim while he was on the ground, because they were not in danger of imminent harm. Prosecutors failed to prove the biggest issue in the case however, which was whether or not Rocky hit the victim with a glass bottle. This is why he will not serve anymore jail time.

Rocky and the two other defendants are set to pay restitution to the victim, and also cover Sweden’s court expenses.

On the newest installment of her “Queen Radio” series, Nicki Minaj invited Joe Budden, ultimately resulting in yet another argument between the two.

With the recent drop of Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot Girl Summer, many were expecting Megan to be a guest on the show. However, Minaj surprised fans by inviting Budden, despite the two’s troubled relationship in the past.

Minaj and Budden began arguing early on in the episode, but the trouble really began when Budden implied that Minaj hopping on Hot Girl Summer at the last minute was really a marketing ploy. However, Minaj insisted that the decision to collaborate was made after and Instagram Live session with Megan.

Tensions reached an all time high when Budden insinuated that Minaj had a drug problem. “Your entire last album did that. Your past is littered with it. Who gives a f*ck what she pop? But don’t sit here and act like you’ve never popped a pill,” he said. Minaj responded by saying, “You like tearing down women when they can’t defend themselves. You like tearing down women when you can try to end their career because you’re lowkey jealous of their success.”

Minaj later asked her producers to turn off Budden’s mic, cutting the show short. She ended the show by stating, “It’s been malicious and specific to me because he and I were under the same people when we were coming up,” she said. “I used to think to myself, this man is so bitter… I didn’t think his ego was that out of control that he couldn’t admit when he was wrong.”

Despite the altercation between the two, it appears as though Minaj will make an appearance on Budden’s podcast shortly, as she tweeted about it on Monday.

DJ JMK is suing Cardi B, City Girls, French Montana, and Yo Gotti, as he said he was never paid for his beat which they all sampled in some of their most famous songs.

The DJ, whose real name is Kirk Edwards, said that the instrumental was made in November 2000 and played in clubs where he DJ’d, according to TMZ. Master P famously rapped over it in 2002. JMK says his track, Choppa Style, has over 9 million streams on YouTube, and a small portion of the song has been sampled on multiple popular tracks in recent years.

Cardi B and City Girls sampled a snippet of the song last year for their famous single, Twerk, according to documents obtained by TMZ. JMK is also claiming that French Montana and Yo Gotti did it on their song, Oh Yeah back in 2017. He stated that she should have been paid for the samples, but never received any money.

Twerk peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hop Rap Songs chart in February of this year, according to Billboard. It is also known for its notorious music video in which Cardi B and Yung Miami can be seen in full body paint as they twerk on the beach. Oh Yeah appears on Yo Gotti’s I Still Am album.

The artists are now being sued for copyright infringement, as JMK says the rappers have all “misappropriated many of the recognizable and key protected elements” of his work.

Cardi B, City Girls, Master P, French Montana, and Yo Gotti all have yet to respond.

Drake achieved his ninth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with his new compilation album, Care Package. 

The album consists of 17 popular tracks such as How Bout Now, Trust Issues, Draft Day, and Paris Morton Music, which were never officially released on an album. All songs were available on platforms such as Soundcloud or YouTube. Care Package was released on Aug. 2 through OVO Sound/Republic Records, and launched with 109,000 equivalent album units in the United States for the week ending in Aug. 8, according to Nielsen Music. Of that, about 16,000 were in album sales.

Drake has now extended his own record for the most No. 1 albums this decade, as all nine of his top spots have arrived since 2010. Additionally, Care Package is the first No. 1 album that Drake has released through OVO Sound, which is the label co-founded by Drake. All of his other album’s were released through Young Money/Cash Money/Republic.

The Money In The Grave rapper has charted 11 entries on the Billboard 200 chart, with just two of them missing the top slot. His So Far Gone mixtape was originally released for free, but never officially released through a streaming service. Drake later dropped the So Far Gone EP back in 2009, which was a distillation of the original So Far Gone mixtape. It marked Drake’s first commercial album release and peaked at No. 6.

Many other popular artists are tied with Drake for the most No. 1s on the Billboard 200. Garth Brooks, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Eminem, all have nine each, according to Billboard.

None of the songs released on Care Package were singles, as the album dropped suddenly. However, by the looks of it, they are well on their way to climbing the charts.

Nipsey Hussle’s birthday is quickly approaching on Thursday, Aug. 15, and many fans are wanting to celebrate with a public birthday bash to honor the late rapper. However, his family is turning down many proposals, as they say his death is just too fresh in their minds.

The Racks In The Middle rapper was shot and killed in front of his Marathon Clothing store back in March, leaving many devastated. He is survived by his mother, children, long-time girlfriend, Lauren London, and many more.

There has been a lot of talk on how to celebrate what would be Hussle’s 34th birthday, and his family has been overwhelmed with suggestions on how to publicly celebrate, according to TMZ. The Los Angeles Police Department is even expecting mass amounts of people to gather in front of his Marathon Clothing store. They are said to have a heavy presence in front of the store that day. Additionally, fans will not be able to get close to the storefront because it is said that an extra set of barricades will be added to an existing fence.

However, a source from TMZ said that there will be no city-wide celebrations in LA despite fans’ pleas for one, as Hussle’s family is still devastated. Rather than a public event, his family will reportedly gather to remember their loved one privately. The family understandably feels that it is too soon for a big birthday bash, since it has only been a few months since his death.

While many would like to remember Hussle on his heavenly birthday, the family is still in mourning.

Rapper Snoop Dogg is preparing for his new album by paying homage to old friend Suge Knight in his new single Let Bygones Be Bygones.

The former Death Row Records CEO was sentenced to 28 years in prison back in 2018 for the death of former rap music label owner, Terry Carter. Snoop released his debut album, Doggystyle, back in 1993 at just 22-yeard-old through Death Row.

The song reflects on Snoop’s relationship with not only Suge Knight, but Dr. Dre and Master P as well. “Me and Suge cool as a motherfucka,” Snoop says in the intro. “I’m cool with Suge, I’m cool with Master P, Dr. Dre—I’m cool with everybody.”

He also talks about the hit-and-run incident for which Suge was sentenced to prison for.

“This man changed my life / We made history together,” he said about the controversial producer. “Yeah, he did some bulls—/I’m admitting that,” Snoop acknowledges.

Snoop also told Billboard that Let Bygones Be Bygones is the main song on the album that he is most excited to perform live.

“That’s a real musical song, very musical, where I’ll probably have a proper band up there playing the musical pieces and give it an array of sound that normally you don’t see in a hip-hop show,” he said.

The Drop It Like It’s Hot rapper also released a Countdown video with Swizz Beatz, which was modeled after his popular 1992 hit Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang. The video featured lowriders and some of the same clothes and locations as the iconic moment from Dr. Dre’s, The Chronic.

New Zealand has reportedly lifted its ban against rapper Tyler, the Creator, and he is now set to headline Bay Dreams musical festival in January 2020.

This comes nearly eight years since the last time he performed in the country. New Zealand based outlet, Stuff, confirmed that Tyler’s visa has been approved and he “is no longer deemed to be a potential threat to public order and the public interest.” This follows the United Kingdom’s decision to lift its four-year ban on the 28-year-old back in May.

Tyler has been banned from New Zealand on two separate occasions. The first was back in 2012 when Odd Future was prevented from performing at the Auckland leg of the Big Day Out festival because of their “homophobic” lyrical content. However, they were able to play a separate solo headlining show instead. In 2014, the rapper was supposed to join Eminem at Rapture Festival, but they were banned from entering the country because Immigration New Zealand deemed them “a potential threat to public order.”

Tyler even referenced the ban on his 2015 album, Cherry Bomb. In his song Smuckers, he states “I got banned from New Zealand, whitey called me a demon/And a terrorist, God damn it, I couldn’t believe it.” The song also features popular rappers Lil Wayne and Kanye West.

Author Toni Morrison passed away on Monday, Aug. 5 at 88-years-old, leaving behind an amazing legacy.

Her first novel, The Bluest Eye, was published in 1970. Her critically acclaimed novel, Song of Solomon, was published in 1977 and brought her national attention, as she won the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her 1987 book, Beloved, won her the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award. She was also the first African-American woman to win a Nobel Prize.

Her work and influences can be seen all throughout pop culture. Beyoncé even opened up her 2019 Netflix documentary with a quote from Morrison, stating “If you can surrender to the air, you can ride it.” The quote was extremely fitting for the HBCU-honoring documentary, considering that Morrison attended Howard University.

Many celebrities such as Gabrielle Union, Chance The Rapper, Don Cheadle, and Shonda Rhimes took to social media as well to reflect on the impact Morrison had on their lives.

“Her words were like mirrors to our collective souls,” Union said. “Like pillows to cushion the blows. Like mothers to wrap us in love. Like friends to hold our hands and see us through the darkness. #RIPToniMorrison you. May we lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.”

Chance The Rapper reflected on his recollection of “rememory”, which happens in Morrison’s Beloved.

“Aw man Toni Morrison taught me the word Rememory. RIP to a incredibly powerful and impactful woman,” the 26-year-old tweeted.

A leaked video showed rapper NBA Youngboy’s recent comments about Nipsey Hussle’s death, causing some controversy among fans.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, DJ Akademiks posted a 16-second video of a discussion with the 19-year-old, following Hussle’s death on March 31. After being asked if he was impacted by Hussle’s music and activism, NBA Youngboy responded with “I can’t show fake love. I don’t know him, but God Bless his family, I guess.”

These comments sparked outrage among some, who think that the comments were disrespectful to the late rapper. “No one asked him to show ‘fake love’ or ride his di*k. I understand him not jumping on bandwagon but his demeanor/body language/tone of voice was disrespectful for no reason,” one fan wrote. Another stated, “Instead of caping for a man he didn’t know he could have spoke on the bigger issue of gun violence/b-on-b crime ????‍.”

Others were shocked at the lack of appreciation for the late rapper’s philanthropy work. “It went over his head????????‍ how can you not be impacted by a man of God & good character… these times we in boy I tell you …,” one user stated.

However, some quickly jumped to the rapper’s defense on social media. “Bruh y’all wanted him to be like ‘ nipsey meant a lot to me he helped motivate me to get to where I am?! Lol he’s a kid from Baton Rouge and never crossed paths or anything with that man. At least he wasn’t fake and he still said god bless that man family. ????????‍????,” a Twitter user wrote. Another supporter stated, “Ain’t say nothin wrong, people just want something to be mad abt.”

Youngboy is currently behind bars and will be released from jail on August 15 after serving about three months for his involvement in a Florida shooting that left one dead and two injured back in May.

A portrait of Beyoncé, which was featured in Vogue’s September 2018 fashion issue, is set to be added to the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection.

The image was shot by Tyler Mitchell, who is the first African-American to shoot a cover for the magazine, as well as the youngest at age 23. It is just one of several images created for that specific issue.

Mitchell took to Twitter on Tuesday to share the exciting news.

“A year ago today we broke the flood gates open,” Mitchell said. “Now I’m glad to share this picture is being acquired into the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection.”

The National Portrait Gallery, which is apart of the Smithsonian Institution, said that the acquisition of the image has been approved and is underway, according to CNN. However, they do not know exactly when the image will be displayed to the public. The museum is located in Washington D.C.

In the portrait, Beyoncé can be seen wearing a dress by Valentino and a hat by Philip Treacy. Additionally, the shoot took place in the English countryside.

In the magazine’s September issue, Beyoncé talked about the importance of black representation.

“When I first started, 21 years ago, I was told that it was hard for me to get onto covers of magazines because black people did not sell,” she said. “Clearly that has been proven a myth. Not only is an African-American on the cover of the most important month for Vogue, this is the first ever Vogue cover shot by an African-American photographer.”

The infamous image is not the only portrait of the singer displayed in the gallery. Photos which appeared on  Beyoncé’s 2003 album, Dangerously in Love, can also be seen as part of the 20th Century Americans: 2000 to Present exhibition.

Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj have joined forces to give fans the highly anticipated new track, Hot Girl Summer. 

The term “hot girl summer” has been a signature phrase, thanks to Megan’s fans, and a viral meme which took Twitter by storm.

Megan previously announced that the track would drop last week, however it was delayed so that Minaj could hop on the track for a guest verse, according to The Fader’s website. Also featured on the song are Ty Dolla $ign with production from Juicy J.

This song comes just weeks after it was announced that Megan would be trademarking the phrase. The trademark was filed July 10, the same day she publicly responded to one of her fans on Twitter saying that she was “in the process” of making it happen, according to Billboard. Companies to use the phrase before include brands such as Forever 21, Maybelline, and Wendy’s. If approved, the trademark will cover merchandise specifically for products such as T-shirts, hoodies, and sportswear.

The Big Ole Freak rapper took to Twitter to promote the song and discuss the artwork, stating “REAL MF HOT GIRL SHIT THE HOT GIRLS TOOK OVER THE MF SUMMER SO IT WAS ONLY RIGHT TO GIVE THE HOTTIES THE OFFICIAL TRACK !!! HOT GIRL SUMMER FT. @nickiminaj and @tydollasign dropping 8/9.”

Minaj’s feature comes after her and Megan connected on Instagram live last week on July 28. Megan even stated in the video, “Stop playing with Nicki Minaj like she ain’t the muthafuckin’ G.O.A.T., like she ain’t that bitch.” Fans have been awaiting the collaboration for quite some time.

Hot Girl Summer is set to debut this Friday, August 9.

Chance The Rapper’s latest album, The Big Day, was previously on track to become his first No. 1 album, however it debuted at No. 2 this week, behind rapper NF’s new album, The Search.

This album is Chance’s highest charting and third Top 10 album, according to Pitchfork. It debuted with 108,000 units. About 80,000 of those were in streams, making Chance’s album the most-streamed album of the week. His 2016 mixtape, Coloring Book, also had tremendous success and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard charts.

However, the 26-year-old has received some backlash for his latest project. The subject matter is overall positive, as he often talks about his faith and loving his wife. After various negative tweets about the album, Chance took to Twitter to express his concerns.

“I’m getting this crazy feeling that people want me to kill myself,” he said. “That’s not my vibe at all, but i feel the push.”

He followed by saying “And I feel like even more than that, some people want me to feel ashamed. Shame is heavy yo. And feeling shame for something that you were once prideful about is super heavy. What’s really weird is that music is the number one thing that influences how I feel on the daily.”

Despite the criticism, the album appears to be doing well. The 22-track album features artists such as John Legend, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Man, and Lil Durk. Songs such as Hot Shower, Do You Remember, and All Day Long appear to be doing well on platforms such as Spotify.

Swedish prosecutors are now asking the judges to impose a 6-month jail sentence for A$AP Rocky, saying that he should be judged harshly because he reportedly threw a bottle at the alleged victim in the altercation which took place on the streets of Sweden.

The bottle has been used as the main piece of evidence in the prosecution’s case, as they claim he severely injured the alleged victim by throwing the bottle at him, according to TMZ. They also state that this was excessive force and unjustified.

However, two eye witnesses recently stated that they did not see the rapper strike the victim with a bottle. They both said that they heard a bottle being “crushed”, however they do not know the circumstances or who did it. One witness also said that they did not even see Rocky holding a bottle during the altercation, even though he admitted that he was holding it but did not throw it. He was also caught on camera with the bottle hidden in his sleeve.

The two eyewitnesses admit to seeing Rocky and his crew beating and kicking the alleged victim, however.

Prosecutors told the judge that the victim’s injuries prove the force Rocky used was excessive, and suggested that just punches and pushes would have been justified. They are pushing to keep him behind bars, despite President Donald Trump’s attempts, as they state that he continues to be a flight risk.

The judges will possibly decide on Friday whether or not Rocky should be released while they come to a verdict. This could potentially take a week.
