The World Star Hip Hop premiered single “Motivation” is dedicated to his mom, Chavon Smith, whom he wants to make proud while she’s looking down on him from Heaven.

“I was gone buy you a crib in Jamaica, I was gone buy you a foreign from Jamaica…Mama baby I told you we gone get it. Told my brothers we gone make it I ain’t trippin,” as the hook quotes in the single.

Big40 knows all to well how adversity can be a lightning rod for change as he has suffered major losses in the past with the passing of his father as a result of suicide in 2011 and then 5 years later his mother was murdered as a result of a failed armed robbery while he was working in a recording studio. The determined lyricist used these tragedies to write music that addressed the things he has dealt with.

He’s set to perform alongside Kash Doll on June 2nd at Medusa’s Restaurant and Lounge in Cleveland. Lil Baby, Gunna, and Lucci are just a few of the big names he hopes to work with during his journey. Southside 808 is one of the few producers we can expect him to work with.

The aspiring 17-year old recently signed with White Boy Entertainment, an independent label also in Cleveland which is headed by former rap star H-Flo who signed to Philthy Rich Records which is owned by boxing legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Flo knew off the rip that Big40 possessed the star-power for success.

Big40 acknowledges that he writes the lyrics to his own chapters as he continues to turn the pages of his life. His studio sessions are usually conducted with a producer throwing on a beat and his pen moving from there. He wasn’t afraid to admit that he’s still learning his sound and his voice. He understands success doesn’t come overnight and is willing to put in the hard work to reach new plateaus in his career.

The “Motivation” rapper is looking forward to the different phases of life post-adolescence, acknowledging to not having experienced real life. Until then, he mentions having listeners lit in the club, motivated to grind, and a little in their feelings. Cleveland has shaped the story but the youngster describes the sound to be mixed with an Atlanta sound and a bit of Miami bounce to it which makes his sound different.

Leave it to someone like Kim Kardashian to totally slut up a charitable event. Kris Jenner’s prize kash kow was pictured next to TV personality Lala Vasquez-Anthony on the red carpet for Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research Hosts Angel Ball 2011 at Cipriani in New York City.  While I will admit that the dress Kim is wearing is STUNNING, as soon as she slipped it on it became something totally different. You should already know how I feel about Lala so no need to comment on how amazing she (always) looks.

My pic for best dressed of the evening, hands down, goes to Solange who looked absolutely angelic in this draped, one sleeved gown with minimal beading detail. Its not common that the sister in Beyonce’s shadow garners this much (positive) attention for an outfit, but here she clearly displays that she can hold her own when it comes to red carpet dressing!

Have you ever had that moment in life, where the next day at school or the office, everyone is talking about how great the party last night was, but you can’t join the conversation because you weren’t there? Well, that’s kinda the way I’ll be feeling for the next week or so. As you know, New York Fashion week has begun for designers to present their spring 2012 collections. And what better way to start fashion week than with Fashion’s Night Out in NYC?

All, if not most, of your favorite celebs scoured the most fashionable city on the planet to support the boutiques and retailers who dress them. And as glamorous and exciting as this may all sound, the part that sucks the most is that I WASN’T THERE!  Oh well, since I myself couldn’t be there this year (next year it will be a priority), we present to you some of the pics from the evening.

Looks like it was all fun and games for Justin Bieber and mentor Usher as they partied and shopped at the Dolce and Gabbana boutique. We still wish Usher’s style technique would rub off more on Justin. No matter how expensive we’re sure his clothes are, he always has a way of making them look juvenile.

Meanwhile, Young Money geisha girl Nicki Minaj dropped by to peek in on fellow label mate Drake at the Versace boutique. Apparently, Nicki had just left her scheduled appearance from YSL where hoards of Minaj minions were no match for store security.

Singing sensation Estelle and super-producer Swizz Beatz performed together last night in NYC at the 2011 Billboard Summer Blowout concert. We won’t even try to deny our love for what both these two are wearing. Estelle decided to bridge the gap between the United States and her native England by wearing a black American flag tank top paired with British flag skinnies. The look could have gone another way had she not worn those beige studded pumps to glam it up a little.


Our boy Swizzy remained true to fashion form with Givenchy’s Fall 2011 rottweiler tee, dark stunner shades, backwards snapback and matching red Kamikaze Reeboks. Dope! Swizz never disappoints

Also in attendance was Skyblu and Redfoo of LMFAO who performed their smash single “Party Rock.”  Now, to some of you they may appear to be taking a page out of the Nicki Minaj style book, but we atually like how they’re dressed. If you’re going to call yourself LMFAO and have the whole country Party Rockin then you better dress the part; and they do! 

The wild untamed hair, the disco ball vest worn under tailored dinner jacket, and rock star belt on Skyblu is rockstar swag to the T! And then you have Redfoo with his ripped skull faced tank top over turquoise zebra pants and the easter colored skateboard sneakers with “Party Rock” emblazoned on the front is genius! Last night, DELTA Airlines and the Grady Health Foundation hosted “Travel in Pink,” a fundraiser benefiting Grady Memorial Hospital’s Avon Foundation Comprehensive Breast Center in Atlanta. Grammy-winning singer ESTELLE performed as well as local country rock band South 70. Attendees included NBA legend Julius Erving, Tyler Perry Studios EVP Roger Bobb, event emcee/WSB TV anchor Jovita Moore, V103 personalities Frank Ski and Rashan Ali, Tameka Raymond, Valeisha Butterfield, Grady Hospital CEO Mike Young, WNBA Atlanta Dream owner Kathy Betty and Coach Marynell Meadors, Radio One/Praise 102.5 personality Darlene McCoy, Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall, songwriter Cristyle and more.

The event took place in a Delta hangar and featured a silent auction, a ‘Tweet Lounge,’ food stations with cuisine from around the world, a tour inside the Boeing 767 “Spirit of Delta” aircraft, a pink ribbon display by Atlanta fire trucks, and a live auction led by Grady Health Foundation president Lisa Borders.
