Holy Crap! Priest Institutes Special Task Force to Police Themselves Against Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Priest, Rev. Reginald Whitt convened a task force of six lay people to speculate any issues dealing with clergy misconduct in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Whitt deemed any proven cases of priest sexual misconduct “sickening”.
Whitt formed the task force after spine-chilling findings of a clergy who pleaded guilty to priest misconduct, and another who was accused of child pornography. The new task force will examine how church officials respond to accusations of priest misconduct.
Rev. Reginald Whitt proposed the Safe Environment and Ministerial Task Force, which includes Catholics, non-Catholics, a former officer, and a lawyer. They created a report and recommendations for the church to adhere to.
Critics find Whitt’s proposal ineffective as they feel the problem is the behavior of the church, not the policies. Do you believe this is the best method in which to filter out sexual predators in the church?
