After nearly a week of fighting complications after have suffered a heart attack, legendary gospel singer AndraĆ© Crouch passed away on thursday, January 8th at 72 years old. People all over mourned the loss & sent their condolences via twitter. Crouch was often times referred to as the “father of modern gospel,” as he was mainly responsible for bringing gospel music & the world of churches to the mainstream. Crouch was a 7-time Grammy award winner who worked with choirs who’ve collaborated with superstar acts like Michael Jackson in hisĀ Man In The MirrorĀ visual & Madonna in herĀ Like A PrayerĀ video.
Crouch’s exceptional arrangement works on the NAACAP Image Award winning film,Ā The Color Purple,Ā earned him a nominationĀ for an Academy award. He’s collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, & more on many of his gospel albums. Though he lost his battle against the heart attack, he survived cancer, diabetes, & pneumonia in which he was hospitalized for earlier this year.
