Before Lil Wayne can claim victory with the recently reported one million plus first week’s record sales, his “daddy” Brian “Birdman” Williams MUST explain his involvement in those calculations. It was reported around the world that Lil Wayne broke another record by selling 964,000 copies of his latest project, Tha Carter IV, however there are speculations by many that those numbers might have been inflated or at least assisted by the CEO of Cash Money Records.
Birdman spoke with MTV News claiming that the rumors of him purchasing his artist’s album are false and it would go against everything that they stand for. Here is exactly what he stated:
“Nah, man, that really don’t make no sense. Why would we do that?” he said. “I press and distribute ’em. Ain’t no need for me to buy ’em. That’s hustling backwards; we ain’t in it for that. I ain’t ever been a part of that type of scheme to be buyin’ records. We don’t do that, homey. We be working too hard to be — that don’t go with what we do. We truly about what we do. We’re real about what we do, we work hard every day at it, and we work for the people. That’s what we do music for: for people. And we appreciate the love they give us back. But no such thing as me buying no CDs. I wouldn’t even play it like that.”
While we aint saying he did do something that shady for the bragging rights and the obvious impulse buying that would be created for such an announcement, anything is possible in entertainment. Clearly he is financially capable of doing such a thing. What do you think? Leave a message on our twitter page @hiphopenqmag.
