Celebrating the power of black music in a new documentary special Unsung Presents: Music & The Movement on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 8 p.m. ET/7C. The two-part documentary premiers on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Reflecting on the music released by changemakers such as Aretha Franklin, Public Enemy, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott-Heron, and Beyonce, there will be remarks from Erica Campbell, Big Gipp, Raheem Devaughn, Isaac Hayes III, REV. Al Sharpton, and substantially more!

Above all, this Martin Luther King Jr. Day special is dedicated to remembering some artists and songs that provide the soundtrack to fighting for justice and equality. It additionally incorporates first-hand accounts, soul-stirring vocal performances, interviews with artists and media, archived footage from speeches, and the list goes on.

Furthermore, features in the film span centuries. Including themes of Negro spirituals, like “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” viral music videos by young, contemporary artists like Keedron Bryant, soul and funk anthems during the Black Power movement performed by Aretha Franklin and Curtis Mayfield, and many others.

In particular, UNSUNG PRESENTS: MUSIC & THE MOVEMENT‘s two one-hour specials are an examination of the power music has in transforming a cultural movement. In addition, the recently announced winner of Reach Media’s “The Song” contest will be featured. Sunny Dizzle and the group Steaksawse will broadcast their debut of the original track “KliKKK KlaKKK”. In fact, the single will release globally on Friday, January 15, 2020 and featured on Reach Media radio stations. 

Some of the people involved in making this production are executive producer A. Smith & Co. Productions’ Arthur Smith and Frank Sinton. Also with Executive Producers Mark Rowland, Co-Executive Producer Kysha Mounia, and Co-Executive Producer P. Frank Williams. Moreover, for TV One, Jason Ryan is Executive Producer in Charge of Production, Donyell Kennedy-McCullough is Senior Director of Talent & Casting, and Robyn Greene Arrington is Vice President of Original Programming and Production.
