Donald Bristol, of Lilburn, Georgia stood before a judge in federal district court for charges related to helping conceal a stolen vehicle, providing confidential information to criminal associates and lying to federal agents about it all.
According to information presented in court and U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates, the 41-year-old former police officer used his position as a DeKalb County Police Officer to help two individuals hide the fact that the vehicle they were driving was stolen. He also used his access into a law enforcement database to provide them with information. This all began back in April 0f 2010.
U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said, “This defendant was a criminal in a police officer’s uniform. The evidence showed that during his tenure as a police officer, he violated the very laws that he had sworn to enforce – and then lied about it to federal agents.”
Bristol was charged in a 10-count indictment on May 25, 2011 and pleaded guilty today to aiding others to possess and hide a stolen vehicle, to unlawfully accessing governmental information, and to lying to federal agents.
He could be facing 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for October 18, 2011.
