What a week this has been! In case any of you were browsing those other blogs and missed out on any of Hip Hop Enquirer’s exclusive posts, here’s what you missed this week in style. There was a lot of happenings this week particularly in New York City.
The Big Apple played host to Wale’s album signing (Ambition in stores now), the 8th Annual Keep a Child Alive benefit, and the Grey Goose presents Rising Icons concert. While some of your favorite style stars shined as expected, there were maybe 1 or 2 who could’ve used a good polishing (or a better stylist) before leaving the house. Take a look at the pics below to see how they measured up. And please, by all means comment to let us know what you think of each of their looks!
I think its pretty much to say that we can lay to rest the “up & coming” phrase when referring to DC native rapper Wale. Not only has he been signed to Ricky Rozay’s Maybach Music label, he surprised critics and fans alike with his debut studio project Ambition. As far as his fashion choices? Well, no surprise there. Although he’s definately in tune with street chic styles there’s nothing that he ever wears that stands out. His kick game I will admit is always on point; if not the highlight of his entire look.
As Kanye West & Jay-Z continue to make headlines across the country as part of their overmuch-hyped Watch the Throne tour, the real talk of the town was when Ye was spotted on stage in Atlanta, GA in a new pair of Air Yeezy sneakers in a new color combo. Die-hard Ye fans and sneakerheads alike salivated at the almost blurry pics but later simultaneously rejoiced once a more clearer pic of the shoes were spotted as Kanye strutted down a New york city sidewalk. The world is his runway!
With the NBA lockout still going strong, sports fans seem to be relying on football to get their athletic fix. New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz scored some major style points at an event thrown by GQ magazine this week! The 25 year old athlete who will soon be celebrating his birthday on the 11th of this month wowed this fashion editor when he appearedin a navy checked suit jacket and tie with gray slacks. Kudos to Cruz and/or his stylist for opting for color and pattern to complete a well put together look!
Oh Tyrese. Can I start off by saying its not that the look is “bad.” Its just that when attending a high-profile celebrity designer event you would expect a look with a little more…. polish. The un-tucked and un-buttoned white woven shirt worn with denim is a tad bit too casual for my taste. But what do I know? I’m sure Black Ty would be able to school me on such matters as baby-momma beef and displaying raw emotion while on film next to CGI robots from outer space.
Say what you will about R&B star Miguel‘s questionable sexuality, but he does take risks. In the above picture, he’s seen dressed more “sober” than usual before performing his set at the Grey Goose Rising Icons concert in NYC. There’s something about his style that I can’t quite put my finger on. Its as if he borrows ideas, pieces from other trend setting male musicians such as Elvis, the late Michael Jackson, a little bit of Usher intertwined with Ricky Martin. The one button blazer is dope and the look is completed (if not slightly enhanced) by the shoes. It kinda gives off that old school rock & roll, smokey blues club feel that some of music’s greatest used to wear back in the day; but done with a modern edge. Let this be a lesson to you all: life is not a dress rehearsal!
