In case you hadn’t heard, funny man Eddie Murphy was slated to host the 84th Annual Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. Unfortunately, it’s been reported that Murphy has decided not to host the show due to a bit of controversy surrounding Oscar producer, Brett Ratner. Murphy opted to back out when Brett Ratner, his friend and producer of Murphy’s latest blockbuster, “Tower Heist” resigned as a producer of the Oscars due to what some called homophobic statements. Last week, Ratner made a comment stating that “rehearsing is for f*gs”. According to E!, Ratner resigned because he didn’t want the controversy of the backlash against his statements to distract from the awards show.

After Ratner’s resignation, Eddie Murphy has decided not to host the Oscars and gave a statement saying  “First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.” We’ll see who The Academy gets to replace Eddie. What do you think of Eddie’s decision to support his friend and colleague? Would you have done the same? Let us know what you think. Tweet us at @HipHopEnqMag or leave a comment!
