Since the beginning of his career Ne-Yo has been a part of the legendary Def Jam family, and now it looks like he’s moving to an even more legendary label with his move to Motown Records. The songwriter/singer/actor will not only release his own albums on Motown now, but he has also been given the position of Senior VP of A&R and will be responsible for finding new talent, producing and mentoring artists.

“I’m honored that I’ve been given such a prestigious title and trusted with such responsibility; terrified because I know that playing this role in the fashion of one of my career role models, Mr. Smokey Robinson—these are big shoes to fill. But trust, I can handle it,” said Ne-Yo in a statement. If anybody can do the job, it’s Ne-Yo. His next album The Cracks in Mr. Perfect is slated for a summer 2012 release, and will be his first release with Motown.
