New York City officers have finally made headway in a case that has haunted the department for a little over three decades. Earlier today police arrested former grocery store worker in the 1979 kidnapping and murder of Etan Patz. Pedro Hernandez, 51, confessed to luring the 6 year-old boy to his death with the promise of candy and soda. Police say Hernandez, lead them to the basement of a Manhattan bodega where he strangled Patz and then stuffed the boy’s body in a garbage bag. According to ABC News, Commissioner Ray Kelly said that Hernandez provided no motive for the killing.” However, Kelly did indicate the suspect was very remorseful and finally relieved to confess to the murder.
The disappearance of Etan Patz, prompted one of the longest hunts for a missing child in history, with his photo being among the first to appear on a milk carton.
