On Friday, May 25, 2012, SOHH.com published their interview with socially conscious Brooklyn rapper Saigon with the headlines reading, “Exclusive: Saigon Says Rap’s Deeper Than Rick Ross & Big Sean, “Yall Support This Sh*t?”

In the interview the Hip-Hop website claims things quickly got intense when he began singling out mainstream rappers Rick Ross and Big Sean. Initially SOHH.com claim their only intention interviewing Saigon was to get his “5 Reasons Why You Should” feature to promote his participation in Lil Kim’s May 18th comeback concert in the Bronx.  However the website alleges the Yardfather willingly turned the interview in a completely different direction and went on a tangent stating his discontent for the state of hip-hop. Not only did the Brooklyn MC describe his issues with what is currently viewed as relevant hip-hop but he questioned the mind state of hip-hop fans.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview below:

“You can put all this sh*t on your site because I don’t give a f*ck. I don’t give a f*ck because at this point, I’ve made up my mind. I made up my mind that I’m taking a whole different approach. … Rick Ross and all these n*ggas rapping about drug dealing, all the sh*t that f*cks up the black community, they’re not gonna be able to make no money. I’m gonna shut all their money down. Why ya’ll supportin’ a n*gga that promotes the destruction of our community? Why are you doin’ that? Why would you let this n*gga thrive and we don’t know where our next jobs are coming from? He’s rapping about selling kilos of cocaine and selling drugs. This is what he’s about, this whole lifestyle saying he’s so rich and he eats shrimp every night, and ya’ll support this sh*t? and ya’ll broke and poor and your family’s about to get kicked out. That’s our hit son! That’s his hit. Nobody knows the words to this song, all they know is “ass, ass, ass, ass, ass, ass, ass” [background noises]. We don’t care about “ass, ass, ass, ass,” but this is the society we livin’ in right now. So it’s like alright.” (SOHH)

Once the news broke of the published article the Yardfather vehemently denied making those comments to SOHH.com despite being recorded, even going as far as insinuating that he was a victim of a falsified story tweeting:

“Haha never a dull moment with these Hip Hop sites. The sh*t n*ggas do for a headline. Ross is my n*gga and I never singled him out abt the,” Sai tweeted May 25th.

“@rickyrozay Peace my N*gga, I have no idea where that bullsh*t on that website came from homie. U know its all love over here, always been”

The New York MC also accused SOHH.com of attempting to manufacture beef between himself and Rick Ross for the sake of a headline. “Its not a secret I don’t agree in the direction Hip Hop has taken but I wouldn’t single out one person.. Think ya’ll… Think,” Saigon tweeted yesterday.

In an attempt to prove and defend their credibility, the website responded to Saigon’s accusations by swiftly releasing the full audio of the interview. Although the audio does confirm that the Yardfather did mention Rick Ross, it also reveals he mentioned several other artists. A fact which the NY MC feels supports his argument that he did not single out Rick Ross or anyone in particular and the SOHH headline was simply created to draw attention and generate a buzz.
With the release of the audio, fans can listen for themselves and come to their own conclusions about credibility of each side involved. What do you think about the comments he made? Check it out below and read his response to the released the audio.
