It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since Nas’ debut Illmatic hit the streets. To celebrate the occasion, Queensbridge’s Finest just released a freestyle that was recorded leading up to the release.
The rhyme session was recorded on October 28, 1993 on “The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show.” The “’93 Stretch & Bobbito Freestyle” also features Grand Wizard, Jungle and 6’9. The track will be featured on the second part of Illmatic XX which drops April 15. Illmatic XX will be a two-disc compilation featuring the remastered Illmatic as well as remixes, never-before-heard demos, and freestyles.
To futher commensurate the 20th anniversary of the release of Nas’ debut, the documentary Time Is Illmatic will screen at The Tribeca Film Festival on April 16th. The film chronicles the making of Esco’s classic and its impact on Hip-Hop.
