Carolina Panthers’ defensive end Greg Hardy is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning following an arrest on Tuesday. Hardy spent Tuesday night in jail after being charged with domestic violence.

Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Julia Rush sent an e-mail to the Associated Press yesterday stating that Hardy will spend Tuesday night in the Mecklenburg County jail and is scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday morning in Charlotte.

According to the police report, officers responded to a domestic violence call at 4:18 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, the victim, a 24-year-old Caucasian female, stated to officers she had been physically assaulted and threatened by Hardy.

The Panthers released a statement following this incident saying, ”We are very disappointed to learn of the allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate.”

Hardy’s agent Drew Rosenhaus declined to comment to the Associated Press.

The incident occurred two months after Hardy was given the franchise tag by Carolina guaranteeing him over $13 million during the 2014 season. Hardy had a phenomenal season last year leading the Panthers with 15 sacks on a stifling defense that helped propel the Panthers to a division title and postseason appearance.

This is not the first noteworthy violent incident to occur during the offseason. Ravens’ running back Ray Rice along with his fiancée was also arrested in February following a physical altercation that ensued in the elevator of an Atlantic City casino.

Hardy is scheduled to appear in court today at 9 a.m.
