Connecticut head basketball coach Kevin Ollie has signed a five-year contract extension worth $15 million. This was announced Thursday by the university.

Ollie signs this contract extension on the heels of guiding his team to a national championship by defeating Kentucky in the title game.

Ollie expressed his admiration for the university by stating, “It’s a humbling experience to be around the UConn fans and the UConn family and to know I am their basketball coach for the foreseeable future.”

Ollie is entering his third season as head coach of the Huskies. He took the helm after the retirement of longtime hall of fame coach Jim Calhoun before the 2012-2013 season.

In his first season he lead the Huskies to a 20-10 overall record and a 10-8 Big East Conference record. However, the Huskies were ineligible for postseason play during that season because of an NCAA ban resulting from low academic scores.

Ollie is an alma mater of UConn. He spent 15 seasons in the NBA as a point guard before retiring in 2010 and immediately joining the coaching staff as an assistant under Calhoun.
