New York Knicks’ Team President Phil Jackson is scheduled to meet with Derek Fisher this week to discuss the current coaching vacancy in the Big Apple.

Fisher, the reserve point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, just ended his season and potentially his career with the Thunder upon their elimination by the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals on Saturday night.

One source has mentioned that the meeting between Jackson and Fisher is not going to be a formal interview.

Fisher has had a longstanding working relationship with Jackson dating back to his playing days as the starting point guard for the Lakers. Fisher has assisted the star studded Lakers in winning five titles during Phil’s coaching tenure with the team.

Jackson was reportedly fined $25,000 for tampering with Fisher by openly disclosing his interest in hiring Fisher as the new head coach for the Knicks.

Who knows what will unfold following these upcoming discussions with Jackson and Fisher?

If Fisher is indeed hired as the Knicks head coach for the upcoming season, it will be the second consecutive season where a retiree becomes an immediate head coach. Last season Jason Kidd assumed the head coaching gig for the Brooklyn Nets following his retirement from the New York Knicks.
