Kentucky men’s head basketball coach John Calipari has signed a new seven-year deal on Thursday.
While the total dollar amount over the course of the next seven years has not been disclosed, Calipari is expected to make a base salary of $400K through 2020 to 2021.
Coming off an excellent season which almost culminated in a championship, Calipari led the Wildcats to its 16th Final Four appearance in the school’s history.
During his five-year tenure as Kentucky head coach, Calipari has led the Wildcats to three Final Four appearances, two conference tournament titles, two regular season conference titles, and a NCAA Tournament championship in 2012.
With the new deal, Calipari and the rest of the Kentucky personnel look to rebound from a devastating loss to UConn in the 2014 NCAA title game. With Kentucky constantly being the number one recruiting destination in the country, another title in the tournament is not outside the realm of possibility for Calipari and Kentucky blue in the near future.
