The only good thing about the bottom is the view and no one knows that as well as Houston up-and-comer, Kay Jay. This emcee slash entrepreneur slash student slash philanthropist grew up in Houston’s Spring Branch area with a whole lot of nothing and that view up became the motivation needed for change. Like many though, the desire for a trip on the upswing in life took Kay Jay down all the wrong roads, landing him with a stint behind bars and, though he had accomplished many of his material goals by that time, what he had when he was released was exactly what he had started out with……nothing. These days Kay Jay’s goals are more broad. Sure there is still that desire for the accumulation of wealth but this time he means to go about it the right way and use his influence and legally gotten gains along the way for positive things. In addition to attending college for a degree in Music Business, running three small businesses and making his own music, Kay Jay has launched a cancer awareness effort, driven by the loss of his own mother to the disease. This drive will surely have one destination for one so multi-faceted, making the title of the fist offering from his debut solo project so apropos; “Top Spot.” It is all you can see from the bottom and Kay Jay has his sights set firmly on it. Aided by a nifty beat from Trakksounds (Bun B, Nipsey Hustle, Wiz Khalifa, B.O.B. & more) and a B-Luce directed visual, Kay Jay paints his journey upwards vividly leaving no doubt that he is indeed headed towards his rightful place. Stay tuned for more from “Tees, Trees and MP3’s.”
