We’re at a lost for words over here at Hip-Hop Enquirer as we sadly report that music icon Prince died earlier today at 57. His publicist Yvette Noel-Schure revealed to the Associated Press that the funk/rock/R&B legend was found dead in his Minneapolis home at his Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday.

The 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was hospitalized last week when his plane had to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois after his reps said he had been battling with the flu. His cause of death has yet to be released.

The man responsible for creating “The Minneapolis Sound” and birthing fellow stars like The Time and super-producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis exploded on the music scene in 1978 with his debut For You and the hits kept coming throughout his illustrious career. The “Purple One”  crossed over into iconic status in 1984 when he released his masterpiece Purple Rain and its accompanying blockbuster film which showcased his acting skills as well.

With nearly 40 gold and multi-platinum studio albums released, a few more of his milestones include Around The World In A Day, 1999, Sign o’ The Times, Graffiti Bridge and Diamonds and Pearls – just to name a few. His catalog of classic hit singles include timeless gems like “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” “1999,” “Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry,” “Kiss,” and “Batdance.” Prince sold over 100 million albums throughout his career and his long list of accomplishments include seven Grammy Awards, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.

We’ll keep you posted as this tragic story develops.  Our prayers go out to the family, friends and millions of fans whose lives have been impacted by the musical genius… Price Rogers Nelson. R.I.P.
