Rapper DMX, who is legally known as Earl Simmons was sentenced to serve one-year in prison on Wednesday for one count of tax fraud.
DMX which stands for Digital Multiplex is know for the chart topping hits “X Gon Give it to Ya” and “Party Up (Up in Here),” was accused of hiding money from the IRS from the years 2010 to 2016. A big cause of the performer getting so behind on his taxes is largely due to maintaining a “cash lifestyle”.
During sentencing Simmons lawyer, Murray Richman, played the rapper’s music video for “Slippin'” to show the hardships the rapper has faced throughout his life.

The embattled rappers sentence also include three years of supervised release as well as paying of his debt of $2,292,200.
