Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson
The angels in heaven have one more member to join their celestial choir because it has been reported that one half of the legendary soulful duo known as Ashford & Simpson has passed away. Nick Ashford, finally lost the battle to throat cancer at a hospital in New York City last night at the age of 69.
With the ever lasting twinkle in his eyes and flowing, silky mane of hair, Nick and Valerie provided many of the hits that serenaded many of your parents during their lovemaking. Even if you’re from the younger generation, chances are that one of their long lists of hits which include: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I’m Every Woman, Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand, Found a Cure, Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing, You’re All I Need To Get By etc., were remixed and/or sampled into some tacky contemporary single by one of today’s current artists.
The world of R&B music has just lost one of its greatest. Nick’s legacy lives on through the timeless classics written by him and his wife Valerie, and their two daughters. RIP Mr. Ashford.
