Currently, rapper Nas is preparing for one of his most anticipated performances to come at Rock The Bells ’11 hip hop festival. As he does, Nas also took a moment to reminisce on his humble beginnings as a rapper and the creation of his now classic debut, Illmatic. “I didn’t know executives, Hollywood actors, superstar rappers,” the Queens rapper stated.

Nas also payed his respects to DJ Premier, who allowed him to pick musical selections that would later be heard on his album. In addition, Nas recalled “One Love”, a track originally produced by Q-Tip with a different meaning behind the song. “When Q-Tip first gave me the beat, he had this idea; it was called Summer Vacation,” reveals the rapper. Originally, the track was supposed to be a summer vacation and a letter to the class explaining what occurred during this time.

The Rock the Bells tour began August 20th in Los Angeles and will head to the rapper’s native city of NYC on September 3rd.
