President Donald Trump recently criticized Sweden and its Prime Minister for not helping A$AP Rocky to dodge his assault charge. However, Congressman Andre Carson said it is all a ploy for Trump to get more votes in the 2020 election.

The Fashion Killa rapper was charged with assault on Thursday, July 25 and will remain in a Swedish jail as he awaits next week’s trial.

Trump and the State Department already tried to help Rocky before he was charged, however they did not have any success, according to TMZ. He was also said to be working with Kim Kardashian West in attempt to free the rapper.

After his attempts were unsuccessful, Trump then went on a Twitter rant the same day Rocky was charged, stating “Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly! #Free Rocky.”

He continued in another tweet, “Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! #FreeRocky.”

However, Congressman Carson said that Trump is just trying to appeal to the African-American community so that he may gain more votes in the next election, and that Trump doesn’t even believe that his tweets will influence the case.

“I love Kim Kardashian and Kanye and I appreciate what they’re doing on the prison reform and criminal justice reform,” Carson said in a TMZ clip. “I just think the president is using a word called triangulation. He’s making ode to the African-American community, talking about this grave injustice, but at the same time he thinks it’s okay that this to squat and gin up a crowd telling them to ‘Go back home.'”
