Civil Rights Attorney Blasts Jermaine Dupri for His Support of The Super Bowl

0

Atlanta Civil Rights attorney Gerald Griggs and music mogul Jermaine Dupri had choice words for each other as the two were at odds about the platinum producer’s support of the festivities surrounding the Super Bowl which will be in held in Atlanta on February 3rd.

Dupri was tapped by Atlanta’s Host Committee to be the music director for all the pre-show performances which didn’t sit well with the attorney as well as many other.

Attorney Griggs for his part decided to speak out against Dupri’s involvement via instagram posting the following:

According to Attorney Griggs, he reached out to the Grammy winning producer to set up a meeting with some of the Atlanta family members who have lost loved ones due to police killings and to remind him that Colin Kaepernick started his protest against the NFL for the same reason. Attorney Griggs stated to us the following:

“We must stand up for the community and the families that have been effected by police brutality both locally and nationally. Artists must understand that they are accountable to the communities they say they speak for. Jermaine needs to meet with the families directly prior to any performances associated with Super Bowl. I think they will change his mind on his associations with a Super Bowl event.” #NFLBoycott

In another Instagram post Jermaine Dupri responded:

The last time Atlanta hosted the Super Bowl was January 30, 2000 however the climate now is a lot different.

Yesterday, rapper Travis Scott signed on to perform alongside Maroon 5 and that decision was met with mixed feelings as well.

Two sources also tell Variety that Jay-Z — who has been highly critical of the NFL over its treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick — is attempting to talk Scott out of performing, although reps either declined comment or could not immediately be reached.

Rapper Yung Joc chimed in on the controversy as well and called into TMZ in support of Travis Scott’s decision to perform:

New Video Alert: Chianti – “Columbiana” Ft. Mo3

0

Dallas native Chianti teams up with rapper/crooner extraordinaire Mo3 to pay tribute to those ride or die chicks that will hold their man down, no matter what.

One third of the team that comprises Hi-Way Money Music, Chianti is the son of an MBA player whose life and travels exposed his son to both the high life, and the streets. It was during his years in Los Angeles that Chianti himself was drawn to the streets; a lifestyle he continued even after moving back to Texas. Chianti eventually reaped the reward for his choices in the form of a stint in jail, railroading his aspirations of a career in music and giving him a much-needed wake-up call.

With life back on track, Chianti is forging the influences of UGK, Tupac with his own gift for the written word to pave a new way. For his current single, “Columbiana”, he snags fellow Dallas street soldier, Mo3, for a smooth bedroom song you can definitely ride to. With a library of songs in this genre under his belt, Mo3’s gritty street crooning style is the perfect compliment to Chianti’s smooth southern flow. Stick it your “Netflix & Chill” playlist and hit them follow buttons to stay tuned.

New Music Alert: Lil Trevo – “Here 2 Stay”

0

“It starts and ends with the music for me,” Cinematic Music Group Founder Jonny Shipes says in a recent interview with Forbes, invoking the label’s slogan For The Love Of Music. It’s the very thing that drew him to Atlanta up-and-comer, Lil Trevo. Trevo’s gritty story-telling evokes clear images of his dark youth in which his family lost one brother to jail and another to gun violence. It’s an ending Lil Trevo hopes to avoid but, while he plans to use his gift for street tales to keep himself off the streets, it is evident in his songs that for the time being at least, he still has one for firmly planted out of necessity.

That being said, Trevo now finds himself label mate to a pretty impressive roster of talent that includes Joey Bada$$, Mick Jenkins, Flipp Dinero and JayDaYoungan and with this follow-up to “Powered Up”, the tape that first caught the industry’s attention, Trevo wants everyone to know the he is “Here 2 Stay.” This latest project is 10 cuts from Trevo’s seemingly conflicted life, vacillating as he is from street braggadocio to mourning the life. The tape is light on features, but you won’t miss them. As Jonny put it, it begins and ends with the music and this tape slaps.

As a bonus, Trevo also released his Guap Tarantino-assisted visual, “Friendly Shit.” The cameo is the only feature on the project.

Rapper Offset’s Jumpoff Summer Bunni Drops New Song “Don’t Matter”

0

It appears that the woman who is in the center of the breakup up hip hop’s power couple Cardi B. and Migos Offset decided to cash in on all the drama. Aspiring rapper and instagram model Summer Bunni has released her debut song “Don’t Matter” where she sings about her relationship with Offset.

Summer claimed in a previously released video that she didn’t want to hurt Cardi B. but from the looks of things she is not shying away from the benefits of being involved in such a high profile scandal. To make matters worse, Summer also appeared in Cardi B.’s arch nemesis Nicki Minaj’s and Tekashi69’s music video “FeFe”

Here are some of the lyrics to her verse:

Summer begins “Don’t Matter” by proclaiming “I’m sick of you, I guess my feelings don’t matter.” She goes on to suggest Offset might have been dishonest with her as well: “You didn’t mean it huh / What you say / You stay lying n*a straight to my face.” However, with lyrics like, “Fk the gossip f**k the tea / I’m the one that you really need,” it sounds like Bunni’s feelings for Offset were still complicated even after she broke it off.

It must be noted that Offset has denied having any relationship with Summer Bunni however text messages between the two says otherwise.

Trump’s America? Black Panther Mural Defaced with Swastikas in Los Angeles

0

Los Angeles police are investigating the destruction of a famous mural of four members of the original Black Panthers that is on display in southwest Los Angeles, police said.

According to a police report, four swastikas were sprayed across the face of the civil rights activists.

A dozen artists had painted the two-block long mural, entitled “Our Mighty Contribution,” over two years, wrapping up in 2002, said Gregory Everett, a filmmaker and the curator of the mural. Located on the busy Crenshaw Boulevard, the mural chronicles the historical contributions of black people, Everett said.

“It’s just absolutely a travesty. It’s devastating. It is upsetting,” Jasmyne Cannick, a strategist and political commentator who alerted the police, said in a video posted on social media. “And we can’t stand for this.”

The Black Panther Party was founded in Oakland by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966, before expanding to cities across the country, and was controversial among law enforcement communities, in large part, because it used armed members to monitor cops, following instances of Black people being beaten and killed by police officers.

“A lot of people thought that they were a hate group, and that they had a disdain hate for whites. The only thing that the Black Panthers had problems with, was hate itself,” Enkone Goodlow, the artist who drew the Black Panthers on the mural, told CNN. “So, someone who has hate in their heart would come and put hate going across their face.”

Let’s see how far the Los Angeles police investigate this particular crime. It must be noted that a high rise in hate crimes have unfolded after Donald Trump became President of the United States and he has done very little to denounce such acts.

New Video Alert: Di’or Ft. Brvo’s – “Starline”

0

Beaming down with cosmic vibes, the stars have aligned for Di’or and Brvo’s new single “Starline.”

Accompanied by a high quality visual with amazing make-up and costumes, Di’or and Brvo prove that peace, love and unity prevail over all.

“When they played the skeleton of this song i just felt something otherworldly. I felt like this is song of peace, love, unity and respect,” Di’or explained. “Saying I’m not from this earth is another way of saying there’s more than what meets the eyes when you see me. It’s exploring the universe within and inviting people into depths unseen on the surface.”

Inspired by a real life dream, Di’or created the whole concept for the visual on her own.

“The concept for the video came to me in a dream and I saw the whole video concept in my head. When I woke up, I sketched it scene by scene in my notebook, like a comic book and boom!” she said.

Fans of Di’or can expect to hear more genres of music seeping out of the speakers as she plans to release music outside of EDM and trance music.

“Starline is actually a one of a kind single for me. It was originally a collaboration between me BRVO and Feefa for a EP called Senshi Gold. As I’ve evolved I’m more so an eclectic soul and I’m looking forward to releasing my EP to showcase more of the vibe i give outside of trance and EDM.”

Having performed at open-mics and small performances throughout her local area, Di’or hopes to expand her fan base with this and subsequent releases by releasing nondenominational artistry.

“My goal is to touch people who may not know my song is what they need in their lives. I’m hoping to gain interest, entertain and inspire people who can appreciate original nondenominational artistry. Ultimately, I’m building my brand with a good foundation to give it a fighting chance in this new age music industry as an independent.”
