Fantasia Barrino Welcomes New Baby Boy

0

So we all remember a while back when Fantasia Barrino was surrounded in scandal because of her relationship with Antwuan Cook, who was a married man. Well it looks like the two have gotten their Christmas gift a bit early this year, as Fantasia gave birth to a healthy baby boy last night in a North Carolina hospital.

This is Fantasia’s second child, as she has a daughter from a previous relationship. Last year, Fantasia testified at Cook’s divorce proceedings that the aborted a pregnancy where Cook was the father, after her failed suicide attempt. It looks like this pregnancy is a much happier one. Congrats Fantasia!

New Music: 50 Cent – The Big 10

0

It’s been a wild 10 years for the Queens, New York native, 50 Cent.  You remember, Get Rich Or Die Trying, the Vitamin Water deal, and all the philanthropic work.  Between all of the success and him being shot 9 times, there was the 50 Cent Is The Future mixtape. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its release, 50 dropped The Big 10, a collection of brand new music that also showcases his two newest artists. The first is Kidd Kidd, who had a short stint with Young Money. Since being featured on Lil Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer”, Kidd Kidd has rejuvenated career with the G-Unit CEO. Queens, NY, the latest video off of 50’s The Big 10 project, features the other new G-Unit artist Paris. Check it out below.

“I took influences from big hit records in the past, but I didn’t actually take the song[s],” 50 explained to MTV this week at a launch party for his SMS Audio headphones line. “There’s different things that might strike a chord with me to make me want to do something creatively, that the public just sees it as a new song or a new effort. But I have something else that makes it matter more to me.” (MTV). The mixtape resembles the old 50 before he started focusing on business ventures.  Check it Out Below.

Ocean 7 Leader in Trouble!! Jermaine Dupri Sued Over Unpaid Lamborghini Bills

0

We guess “money ain’t a thing” isn’t really the motto for music mogul Jermaine Dupri right now. TMZ has reported that the producer/businessman not only had his 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago recently repo-ed, but that the company that financed the car is now suing him for almost $80,000.

Premier Financial Services claimed that Dupri financed the car in 2006 at $330,000 and agreed to make monthly payments of $4,323. After dropping $70,000 up front for the car, he continued to make scheduled monthly payments until 2009, when he stopped making his payments for whatever reason. Premier Financial Services repo-ed the car, sold it for $115,000 and are now suing Dupri for their losses of almost $80,000. Not a good look for the Ocean 7 head honcho but then again not a good look for most suffering in this tough economy. Keep your head up JD!

Album Review: The Roots – Undun

0

The legendary Roots released their thirteenth album Undun via Def Jam Records on December 6, 2011.  “Anyone coming into undun expecting a series of three and four minute songs with traditional verse-chorus-verse structures (like what comprised last year‘s How I Got Over) will be let down. The whole thing zips by in under 40 minutes, and only half of its 14 tracks top two and a half minutes. Undun is telling a story about their semi-fictional character, Redford Stephens”, says Mike Madden of TIME Magazine.  The album gravitates around Redford growing up in an urban landscape struggling with survival. He is forced to juxtapose between the choice of making something of himself or living a life of fast money and crime, and he chooses the life of crime. The album features artists like Aaron Livingston, Big K.R.I.T., Phonte, Dice Raw, P.O.R.N., Truck North, Bilal. The first single “Make My” leaked on October 17, 2011.

The band went back to their original “roots”, by returning to lyrics revolving around struggle and making something out of nothing. The music is framed not by booming bass lines — bass parts are rare — but by keyboards, often high and fragile little shards that are far closer to Radiohead’s productions on “Kid A” than to the plush fanfares of current best-selling hip-hop”, said Jon Pereles of NY Times.  Echoes of old-school soul appear as a kind of inverse gospel, prayers without hope of redemption: “You’re face down in the ocean/ And no one’s there in the lighthouse,” goes one chorus. When melodies do arrive, they are bittersweet at best, like the one that arises in “Make My,” a deathbed reflection. Amid hints of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” and Stevie Wonder’s analog synthesizers, the chorus reflects, “They told me that the ends would justify the means,” and, “Maybe I’ll throw in the towel and make my departure from the world.”

The Roots have solidified their spot as one of the greatest acts in hip hop. In comparison to other artists of the genre, the Roots have always had their own lane. The music they compose at the highest quality can be some of the most emotion drivien sounds hip hop has to offer. Spanning from Philadelphia, PA all over the world, The Roots have enjoyed plenty of success thanks to their forward thinking approach to music and hip-hop culture. Drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and fellow Philadelphia native and front man Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter have manned the controls since 1987, making consistency one of the group’s strongest points.

New Music: Ace Hood – The Statement 2

0

It’s a well known fact in this game that once you begin your career, you have to keep a steady grind to stay relevant. 2011 is almost over but Ace Hood’s grind is just getting started. Broward County, Florida’s finest had an above average year, much credit due to arguably the hottest track of the year: “Hustle Hard” Remix ft Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. His third solo album Blood Sweat and Tears sold average numbers but Ace displayed how much he has grown as an artist.

The Statement 2 is the latest example of Ace’s newly found flows and rhyme schemes. Ace paints pictures of pain, struggle, love and success over impressive sounds from We The Best production duo, The Renegades.  Although guest appearances from 2 Chains, Wale and Movado all compliment the sound, not every rapper can hop on tracks with Ace and keep up with his flow. As expected, Rick Ross is featured on a number of occasions, none of which over shadow the remix to“Shit Done Got Real” featuring Busta Rhymes and Yelawolf.  Things get emotional on “Forgivin” over a classic Nas sample where Ace displays his key talent of painting pictures with his words. Not many artists his age posses that skill. If he keeps polishing his skills, Ace could really be a problem in years to come. Check out The Statement 2 below.

Diddy Signs French Montana to Bad Boy Records & Debuts Video on 106 & Park

0

The Bad Boy imprint just got stronger. Yesterday (December 8) Diddy and South Bronx native French Montana appeared on BET’s 106 & Park to announce the deal to the masses. Sporting a  fur vest and four glittering chains, the 27-year old rapper explained why he turned down offers from  Maybach Music and chose the New York based Bad Boy Records.

“Man, I really feel real, real, real good, how New York feel right now, you know,” he explained. “That’s why I kept it here in New York. I ain’t wanna go nowhere else. Why would I take my talent to South Beach.” “He (Diddy) told me a couple things and never really like, lied to be about nothin’, like really just kept his word about everything he tried to do,”. French Montana

When Rosci asked the Bad Boy CEO about  the move signing French months after signing Machine Gun Kelly Diddy stated – “It’s obvious”. “His work ethic, his song-making, the effect he has on the youngins. If you ever been to one of his shows, every time he drops a record. Also, it’s important, I’m from New York, you know what I’m saying. I rep New York to the fullest.  And for real, for real, can’t nothing move in this city without us being a part of it.”

French Montana rose to street fame quickly over the past few years. Gaining great recognition  for his tracks “Choppa Choppa Down”  as well as collaborations with Fat Joe on “Welcome to the Dark Side” and Waka Flocka Flame on “Hell on Earth 2K11”   After the big news the new duo debuted visuals for “Shot Caller”, featuring cameos from N.O.R.E.,Busta Rhymes, DJ Camilo, Waka Flocka, Diddy and Fat Joe. Watch the Video below:

Former Death Row Records Photographer Releases Memoir: “Time Served at Death Row Records”

0

Although Death Row Records is mostly remembered for its brutal business tactics and bullying CEO, Suge Knight, photographer Simone Green reminds us that Death Row Records had its bad and its good side. Green is set to release a memoir of her time as personal photographer to the label and its artists in her book titled, Time Served at Death Row Records. The book chronicles her time of capturing photos of some Hip Hop’s greatest including Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg, Warren G, MC Hammer and the legendary Tupac.

“Not to give it all away, but I met Tupac after I drove from Detroit. He was one of the first set of people that I met when I went back to California the last time and we ended up hitting it right off and I ended up spending time and being friends with him”, said Green about her relationship with Tupac. Time Served at Death Row Records  hits stores January 13th.
