Mo’Nique Launches Boycott Against Streaming Giant Netflix

0

Comedy legend and Oscar Award winning Actress Mo’Nique is calling for a boycott against Netflix for race and gender bias Friday afternoon.  According to Mo Netflix offered her $500,000 for a comedy stand-up special, a very low number compared to the $11 million deal Netflix gave Amy Schumer for her stand up comedy special last year.

When asked why was Mo given such a low deal Netflix claimed “We believe that’s what Mo’Nique will bring.” Then when Mo’Nique asked what about her extensive resume Netflix responded “We don’t go off of résumés.” Netflix claims they consider Mo’nique a comedic legend, so why not offer her a legend’s deal?  Fellow comedians Chris Rock was offered  $40 million for two specials and Dave Chappelle $60 million for four, according to Business Insider.

Mo took to social media  calling out the  streaming giant Netflix for offering her a less than respectable stand up special deal.

Despite the fact that Winter has set in on the East Coast, things are heating up in the Midwest as “The Land” is churning out more and more artists before our eyes. Enter All In Entertainment’s Christopher Bradley and Mark Too Sharp who have a new visual and single, “So Fly” that’s picking up in the streets and on radio airwaves across the Midwest.

“We always played around freestyling and rapping and then one day we decided to take it serious because we was really living the street life rappers rap about,” said Mark Too Sharp who’s last single with Lil Boosie reached over 100k plays on YouTube.

And while the industry is obsessed with big name features, the guys are more concerned about letting people know that they don’t need features and that their talent stands strong alone.

“We wanted to make the new heat, yeah we got some big name features on there, but we wanted people to know we don’t need features, we got better songs on the tape without features,” Christopher Bradley explained. “We figured if 15-18 songs on the project are all fire, then y’all would get the picture.”

For the new single “So Fly” the guys tapped DJ Drugz from the East Side of Cleveland to produce the song and the guys flew 30 Visuals up from Baton Rouge to film the video which is set in a barber shop as Mark Too Sharp gives people edge ups.

The song is amped up by the fact that fellow labelmate and collaborator on this song Young Chris joins mark on the song. He wants fans to know that if they are loyal, he’ll be loyal to them as he preps his new album, Finally Famous.

TMZ reports that Jay-Z’s lead character from his ‘Story of O.J.‘ music video is getting drafted for a  new role in fashion and homewares.

Jay’s company, S. Carter Enterprises, filed docs to trademark the animated character, “Jaybo.” The plan is to plaster the cartoon character on T-shirts, sweaters, hats, blankets, shams, dinnerware, mugs, cocktail shakers and thermal containers.

Some speculate Jay’s move to commercialize the Jaybo illustration. “The Story of O.J.” was the first video released from Hov’s latest album, 4:44. Directed by Mark Romanek and Jay himself, the animated video stars  Jaybo who eats watermelon and picks cotton before meeting a sudden end. The Jaybo character is a play on the racist term, Sambo, the main character from an 1899 children’s book that’s widely held to be racist.

Goes to show that Jay’s mind is always spinning.  we are interested to see exactly how Jay Z plans on playing this new venture out.

#PressPlay African People Respond to H & M Racist Ad “We Are Going to Fight by Any Means Necessary”

H&M stores went into damage-control mode over the weekend after a controversial ad featuring a black child modeling a hoodie with the text “coolest monkey in the jungle”, sparked protests in South Africa.

The retailer giant closed its South African shops after some outlets were trashed by members of the  EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters), South Africa’s biggest opposition group.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqb0NkYf7nA[/embedyt]

EFF leader Julius Malema assembled what they called “Ground Forces” on their 2018 program in Westernberg, Limpopo on Saturday afternoon.

“We are teaching them [H&M] a lesson, we are not going to allow anyone to use the color of our skin to humiliate us, or to exclude us. We are black and we are proud. We are black and we are beautiful. We are black and we are not ashamed of being black.”

Julius Malema said he did not send EFF supporters to trash the stores. “They went because they wanted to go. To say people were sent, it means you are undermining black people that they cannot think on their own. Malema would never put a gun on anyone to go to H&M,” Malema said.

“H&M is aware of the recent events inside several of our South African stores,” the company said in a statement on its website. “What matters most to us is the safety of our employees and customers” and “we have temporarily closed our stores in South Africa.”

PR and communications manager for H&M South Africa, Amelia-May Woudstra said stores in the country have been temporarily closed. “We strongly believe that racism and bias in any shape or form, deliberate or accidental, are simply unacceptable. We stress that our wonderful store staff had nothing to do with our poorly judged product and image.”

The DA is pushing for the  EFF to foot the bill for the damaged caused by their protest. With 17 stores across the country, employees and staff employed by the retailer face a nervous wait to see if H&M will continue operating in South Africa.

Google Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an Amazing Doodle for MLK Day

0

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Baptist minister, Nobel Laureate, and civil rights activist who dedicated his life working tirelessly for peace, social justice, and opportunity for all Americans – irrespective of color or creed.

On November 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill creating a federal holiday to honor Dr. King. It was federally observed for the first time on January 20, 1986, and over 30 years later, the day is traditionally celebrated as a day of service, with people volunteering time and talent to help others, thus paying homage to Dr. King’s legacy.
Google in collaboration with the Black Googlers Network (BGN) teamed up with artist Cannaday Chapman to create an amazing doodle in honor of MLK Day.  The image depicts a young girl perched on her father’s shoulders, enthralled by the power and eloquence of Dr. King’s words. The scene is evocative of Dr. King’s dream for children everywhere to one day live in a better world.
Cannaday shares his thoughts on today’s Doodle below:

Q: What does MLK and MLK day mean to you personally?

A: Martin Luther King Jr.’s message is especially relevant today and will be relevant for the remainder of civilization. Dr. King is most remembered for fighting for the rights of African Americans, but he fought for the rights of all Americans. He believed in fairness and equity for everyone. As a black man, I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing today if it wasn’t for him and the brave people of the civil rights movement.

Q: What were your first thoughts when you were approached for this project?

A: I felt very honored to have the opportunity to pay tribute to one of America’s bravest leaders. I was pretty busy when I was approached for this assignment, but it’s Google and Martin Luther King Jr. That’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

Q: Did you draw inspiration from anything in particular for this Doodle?

A: I was inspired by people. It may appear that this movement or any civil rights movement was brought about by one person, but it’s the people that have the power to bring change. I wanted to make an image about those people.

Q: What message would you like for people to get after seeing the Doodle?

A: I would like people to reflect on this moment in history. I would like people to remember that current events and our actions today will shape the future generations of tomorrow. What kind of example do we want to set for our children and our children’s children?

Today, Dr. King’s dream continues to inspire people of all ages, races, and nationalities to stand united against injustice and never abandon hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Trump aka “Orange Man” Hits An All Time Low by Calling Haiti and African Nations “Shithole” Countries

0

President Donald Trump has crossed the line once again, by referring to a group of nations (that included El Salvador, African countries, and Haiti), as “s–thole countries.”  During a meeting with a bipartisan group of senators Thursday at the White House.

Trump’s comments were first reported by the Washington Post, the comments came as senators huddled in the Oval Office with the president to discuss the path forward on an immigration deal. Trump questioned why the United States would want people from nations such as Haiti, while being briefed on changes to the visa lottery system.

Trump then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met with on Wednesday. The president, according to a White House official, also suggested he would be open to more immigrants from Asian countries because they help the United States economically.

In addition, the president singled out Haiti, telling lawmakers that immigrants from that country must be left out of any deal, these people said.

“Why do we need more Haitians?” Trump said, according to people familiar with the meeting. “Take them out.”  “The U.S. should have more people from places like Norway.”

Donald Trump Makes Another Radical Change, Requires Medicaid Recipients to Have A Job!

0

CNN reported early Thursday morning that in another radical move by the Trump administration, will allow states for the first time to impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients.

This historic move would be a significant change in how the government health insurance program operates and would finally fulfill a longtime Republican goal. For example, states, could require non-disabled, working-age recipients to work, volunteer, go to school or enter a job training program. The guidance also includes care-giving as one of the activities.

“Medicaid needs to be more flexible so that states can best address the needs of this population. Our fundamental goal is to make a positive and lasting difference in the health and wellness of our beneficiaries, and today’s announcement is a step in that direction,” said Seema Verma, the agency’s administrator.
Bernie Sanders, US Senator (Independent-VT), in the “Issues: Medicare for All” section of his website (accessed Feb. 10, 2017), wrote:
“Health care must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman and child in our country should be able to use the health care they need regardless of their income…

We need a system that works not just for millionaires and billionaires, but for all of us. Americans should not have to fear losing their health insurance if they lose their job or change employment… We need a system that prioritizes the health of working-class families over the profits of insurance companies.”

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a guidance Thursday outlining what states need to do to mandate that certain Medicaid enrollees work to qualify for benefits. The agency is expected to start approving state waivers promoting “community engagement activities” in coming weeks.
