The Pittsburgh Steelers have joined the wave of protests throughout the NFL after President Donald Trump’s NFL-related comments.  The Steelers will not be on the field for the playing of the national anthem before their game against the Bears this Sunday at 1 pm EST on.

Coach Mike Tomlin told CBS his team would remain in the locker room for the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

“These are very divisive times for our country,” Tomlin said. “For us, as a football team, it’s about us remaining solid. We are not gonna be divided by anything said by anyone. That’s the thing that I posted to our guys. I said, ‘If you feel the need to do anything, I’m going to be supportive of that. As Americans, you have that right.’ But whatever we do, we’re gonna do 100 percent, we’re gonna do together. We’re not gonna let divisive times or divisive individuals affect our agenda. This collection of men, we’re chasing something here in 2017, and we’re not gonna play politics with football players, with football coaches.

“We’re not participating in the anthem today. Not to be disrespectful to the anthem, to remove ourselves from the circumstance. People shouldn’t have to choose. If a guy wants to go about his normal business and participate in the anthem, he shouldn’t be forced to choose sides. If a guy feels the need to do something, he shouldn’t be separated from his teammate who chooses not to. So we’re not participating today. That’s our decision. We’re gonna be 100 percent. We came here to play a football game. That’s our intentions, and we’re gonna play and play to win.”

Several Steelers leaders, including defensive end Cameron Heyward, linebacker James Harrison and others, were involved in the discussion about Sunday’s protest, one team source said. Those discussions took hold Saturday as the team traveled to Chicago and got situated at the team hotel.

The decision was collaborative and the team wanted to show unity without being demonstrative.

Jay Z turns down offer to perform at the 2018 Super Bowl

0

According to a report in The Sun, reps for the NFL offered Jay Z an opportunity to perform in the 2018 Super Bowl Half-Time show and Hov graciously declined.

No one is sure why Jay turned down the opportunity to perform during the Half Time show. Last week, Jay Z showed his support of Colin Kaepernick by dedicating his song Story of O.J. to him during his stage performance in NYC on his 444 tour.

Could this be Jay’s way of supporting the NFL boycott after the booting of Kaepernick and Ezekiel?

Hiphopenquirer.com will update this story as the details become available.

Arrest Made! White Supremacist in Baton Rouge Targets Blacks for Murder (Video)

0

Gleason faces murder charges for two deaths in the city limits of Baton Rouge and an attempted murder charge related to an attack somewhere in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The D.A. found DNA on shell casings at one of the shooting scenes.

“This is extremely unusual,” District Attorney Hiller Moore said at a joint press conference Tuesday. “To actually find DNA on spent shell casings is something that just doesn’t happen.”

Gleason has also been accused of firing shots into a neighboring home on Sandy Ridge. The home was occupied at the time of the shooting, but no one was reported injured.

Witnesses of the first deadly shooting on Sept. 12 reported seeing a white male in tactical gear leaving the scene in a red vehicle. Police arrived at the scene on Florida Boulevard to find 59-year-old Bruce Cofield shot to death.

Police say a second victim, Donald Smart, was shot 10 times on Alaska Street two days later. Again, authorities say a red vehicle and, potentially, a white male were spotted near the scene. The shells found at the scenes were apparently fired from the same firearm.

Kenneth Gleason is shown in an undated booking photo provided by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. Police believe the slayings of two black men in Baton Rouge were likely racially motivated and said Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, that they have a person of interest — Gleason— in custody. Gleason, was being held on drug charges. Authorities do not yet have enough evidence to charge him with murder, Baton Rouge Sgt. L’Jean McKneely told The Associated Press. (East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office via AP)

Authorities began searching for the vehicle, which was seen in surveillance video from both scenes. An officer then spotted the red vehicle on Saturday and took its driver, Gleason, into custody.

On Tuesday, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press that a copy of a speech by Adolf Hitler was found inside Gleason’s home.

Gleason was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison just after midnight, Tuesday morning on new theft charges. Gleason faces a single theft charge, according to prison records.  He’d also been arrested last week on drug charges but had not been formally charged in the deaths of the men at that time.

New evidence, including the DNA found at one of the scenes, led to Gleason being charged in the shootings.

The shootings have captured the national spotlight and featured on Good Morning America Tuesday morning because officers say, the shootings could be racially motivated.

Story still developing.

Missouri Judge Acquits Cop Accused of Murdering Black Man and Planting Evidence

Protests erupted today following the acquittal of former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley, who was charged with first-degree murder in the 2011 shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith. (MICHAEL B. THOMAS/GETTY IMAGES)

Hundreds marched throughout the city of St. Louis, chanting and holding up “Black Lives Matter” signs on Friday night after a judge found former police officer Jason Stockley not guilty of first-degree murder in the 2011 death of 24-year-old Anthony Lamar Smith.

“Anthony Lamar Smith was an African American man from St. Louis, Missouri, who was killed by Stockley in December 2011. Police officer Stockley and his partner have stated they saw Smith engaged in a drug deal. Dashcam video from their police car recorded Smith reversed his car into their vehicle twice, before driving off. A three-minute high-speed car chase ensued, then Stockley told his partner to ram the other car. Stockley was recorded during the chase as saying “going to kill this motherfucker, don’t you know it”. After the car was stopped, Stockley and his partner, Brian Bianchi, approached Smith’s vehicle. Witnesses testified and dashcam footage showed that Stockley yelled at Smith through the driver side window of Smith’s vehicle to open the door. Stockley testified that Smith did not comply but rather appeared to be reaching around the interior of his vehicle in search of something which Stockley believed to be a gun. Stockley testified that Smith’s demeanor suddenly changed, which Stockley believed indicated that Smith had found the alleged gun. Stockley then opened fire through the window and shot five times, killing Smith. A handgun was later found in the vehicle between the driver’s seat and center console.  During the trial, the prosecution had argued that the revolver found in Smith’s car had been planted by Stockley to justify the shooting. However, in his ruling, the judge said the prosecution’s argument was not supported by the evidence. ”

Protests broke out immediately after Judge Timothy Wilson found former police officer Jason Stockley not guilty on Friday morning.

Police declared an unlawful assembly and deployed tear gas around 10 p.m. local time.

A video captured by a KSDK reporter shows one cop collapsing to the ground after a brick hurtled toward a line of police officers in riot gear.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department announced in a tweet that two officers sustained a serious injury and had to be transported to the hospital from bricks being thrown.

At least nine cops were injured during the day of unrest, along with a trooper from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, according to interim police chief Lawrence O’Toole. The injuries included a possible broken jaw and a dislocated shoulder in another case, O’Toole said.

Protestors even crowded outside Mayor Lyda Krewson’s home chanting for her to wake up,  protesters broke a window and splattered red paint on the house. Local restaurants and the public library also sustained damage.

At least 23 arrests were made.
