Cardi B and Offset Explain “Clout” Lyrics

Rappers Cardi B and Offset explain exactly what the lyrics to their song Clout meant during the segmentNew Lyrics for Old People on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, July 17.

The song is featured on Offset’s debut solo album, Father of 4, and reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 following the release of the music video. The album as a whole debuted at the No. 4 spot on the Billboard 200, and moved 89,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

During their appearance on the show, the couple performed the lyrics while Kimmel proceeded to translate them. Offset started off by saying “Straight out the streets to a penthouse/Miami beach/Yayo,” to which Kimmel explained, “I came from humble beginnings, but now I own a condominium in Florida. Yayo.” The Migos rapper also said “Get the whip/Put it up for my seeds/No cure for the IG disease,” while Kimmel followed with “Seeds are kids, right?” Kimmel asked. “So, I’m saving my money for my children, and I love Instagram—a lot.”

Kimmel was even able to clarify some of Cardi’s lyrics when she said, “I should run a whole blog at this rate/They using my name for clickbait/Bitches even wanna start fake beef/To sell their little weave in the mixtape.” Kimmel responded with “You’re such a topic of online conversation, you’re thinking about becoming CEO of Buzzfeed, and women are instigating fights to promote their music and hair extensions.”

The couple followed with a performance of the song that included a walk down Hollywood Boulevard before hitting the stage.

Jermaine Dupri attempted to set the record straight about his comments during an interview with People Now that female rappers all rap about the same thing.

During his interview, Dupri stated that rappers such as Cardi B, Megan thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj sound like “strippers rapping”, as they only talk about their sexuality in their music. He went on to add that he does not have a favorite out of the three, because they all talk about the same thing.

Cardi quickly responded with a video on Twitter stating that she only raps about her sexuality because that is what is mainstream and what people want to hear. She went on to add that the female rappers who do not talk about sex do not get supported.

“I rap about my pssy because she’s my best friend and second of all it’s because it seems like that’s what people want to hear,” Cardi said. “When I did Be Careful, people was talking mad sht like ‘What the fck is this? This is not what I was expecting.’ It’s like if that’s what people ain’t trying to hear then I’m going to start rapping about my pssy again.”

In a recent interview with TMZ, Dupri said that his comments were only directed at the rappers he was asked about, and that he does not believe all female rappers only talk about sex. As far as accusations from the public that he is sexist, he said nothing is farther from the truth. Dupri also added that Cardi has likely heard this complaint before, and that many other people share his views. He said he is only facing backlash for the comments because he is the first big name to publicly voice this opinion.

Megan thee Stallion and Minaj have yet to comment on the situation.

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Work To Free A$AP Rocky

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly working with President Donald Trump to help get A$AP Rocky released from a Swedish jail.

Rocky has been behind bars for more than two weeks, as Swedish prosecutors determine whether or not to charge him with assault following an altercation which occurred between Rocky, his crew, and two men. The fight was caught on camera, and Rocky can even be seen saying that he and his team did not want any problems, however the two had been harassing and following them for quite some time before.

As soon as the duo heard about Rocky’s situation, Kanye urged Kim to talk to Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, with whom Kim has previously worked with in the White House, according to TMZ. Kushner went to Trump, who even admitted that something seemed unusual about the case and that Rocky is being held in jail unfairly. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, has reportedly gotten involved and even rallied a few deputies together in an attempt to free Rocky. A state department member was supposed to arrive in Sweden Thursday, and the state department is said to be actively working on the case.

However, many have called out Pompeo as well as other members of the State Department for not moving quick enough. Swedish authorities appear to be unfazed, as many fear prosecutors may delay their decision and go past the three week mark, leaving A$AP in custody for an even longer period of time.

Often times when you are dealing with a rapper that is this closely tied to the streets, unfortunately a different kind of message is sent to the youth. But StreetLord Rook brings an infectious sound to fans with “UGH”, with a visual that everyone can relate to regardless of being young or old. As depicted in the short acting scenes that lead into the song,StreetLord Rook has a different message for the youth.

“I don’t want to say I’m OG like I’m old, but all the young kids today doing videos where they in front of liquor stores, where they got some drugs and guns and if you really lived that life, thats some shit you kinda don’t want to be doing,” StreetLord Rook explained. “So I wanted to bring a side to the game where, like let’s make this a little more entertaining. Because it’s real. I’m tired of the extra niggas and I’m tired of the extra hoes and I’m just sick of all the extra shit, where its like UGH, just like the song. So we just pushing people in it to where we can get our point across.”

Featured on his album Life After the Feds, StreetLord Rook touches on a wide range of sounds as he hopes to give Rap fans something authentic and real.

“This gonna teach you how to make money and how to make it out of the hood to live a good life,” StreetLord Rook said. “I just try to be real and I think that’s what music lacks. Selling all these kids false hopes and dreams, running off on the plug and doing all these drugs and stuff. It ends up hurting people long term and affecting families. You run off on the plug, you’ll mess around and get killed. You do all that lean and percs and drugs and you gonna be some junior junkies four, five years down the road because they got an opiate addiction. It sounds cool when the rappers say it, but it’s really some bullshit. Like where I come from when you get money you don’t do drugs, that’s crack head shit if you do that.”

Drake’s Euphoria Renewed For Season 2

Drake’s groundbreaking HBO show, Euphoria, staring Zendaya has been renewed for a second season.

The show is the American adaptation of the Israeli show by the same name. It centers around a girl struggling with drug addiction, and follows a group of high school students as they struggle with real life issues and battle through identity, trauma, drugs, and sex. The show has already curated buzz, and has since been praised for its realistic outlook on young adulthood. The cast is star studded, and includes actors such as Zendaya, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, and Barbie Ferreira.

Executive Vice President of HBO programming, Francesca Orsi, said in an interview with Hot New Hip-Hop that she is extremely grateful for the show’s creator.

“Euphoria’ creator Sam Levinson has built an incredible world with an extraordinary cast led by the supremely talented Zendaya,” Orsi said. “We are so grateful that he chose HBO as the home for this groundbreaking series. We look forward to following these complex characters as their journeys continue through the challenging world they inhabit.”

Drake serves as the executive producer for the show, which aired back in June. Given his TV show history, it seems fitting that Drake would work on the show. The 32-year-old played Jimmy Brooks on Teen Nick’s Degrassi from 2001 to 2008. The show also followed various young adults as they navigated their way through tough situations.

More information for the second season is said to be revealed soon.

Chance The Rapper Reveals Details For New Album

Chance The Rapper released details for his official debut album, The Big Day, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

While the album was available for pre-order, details such as the album’s title, artwork, and release date were unknown. The 26-year-old has published multiple projects before this, however they were all free unlike The Big Day. Chance is most notably know for his 2016 independently released mixtape entitled Coloring Book. The tape included popular songs such as Juke Jam ft. Justin Bieber and No Problem ft. Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. It debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, making it the first exclusive-to-streaming-exclusive release to break the record.

Earlier mixtapes include Acid Rap, which was originally released in 2013, but has since been re-released with an incredible “first week”. The album premiered at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, and is solidified as Chance’s highest charting project so far. However, the song Juice was left off of the re-release because Chance was unable to clear a Donny Hathaway and John Lennon sample in time. The track was replaced with a 30-second clip of him explaining why the song is missing, and reveals that all streaming proceeds from the song will go to charity, via his non-profit organization SocialWorks.

Last year, the rapper had a series of singles including Work Out and The Man Who Has Everything. So far this year, Chance has released Bad Idea with YBN Kordae and Groceries with TisaKorean. The highly anticipated album is set to debut next Friday, July 26.

Tekashi69’s Former Manager Pleads Guilty In Court Case

Rapper Tekashi 69’s former manager, Kifano Jordan, has plead guilty to second-degree assault for his involvement in a Midtown restaurant fight in which a shot was fired.

Jordan, 36, appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court to face assault and weapons counts which come from a shooting back in October. Members of Tekashi’s crew attempted to enter a restaurant, but were refused entry, as a business meeting was set to occur during the time. Jordan reportedly instigated the situation by ordering another man to hit the security guard who would not let the entourage inside. A shot was later fired by one of the rapper’s security guards, who is a retired police officer.

Jordan eventually pled guilty in exchange for a sentence of time served because he is facing “substantial” time in a separate federal case, according to prosecutors.

Tekashi 69, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, had a falling out with Jordan amid the time the two and nine other alleged gangbangers were caught by the FBI for several robberies, shootings, and various other crimes. Both Hernandez and Jordan were arrested and are currently undergoing legal battles.

Jordan admitted to firearm possession, as well as discharging a firearm. He also admitted to conducting a gunpoint robbery, while Hernandez filmed the altercation in an SUV outside. Hernandez admitted to multiple crimes including robbery and selling drugs. He ultimately pled guilty to nine counts, which include firearms offenses, narcotics trafficking, racketeering, and conspiracy.

Jordan is currently facing up to 15 years in the federal court case.

Beyonce Releases Music Video For The Lion King’s “Spirit”

Beyoncé recently released the highly anticipated Spirit music video for her new film, The Lion King, which premiered exclusively on ABC.

The video’s debut took place during ABC’s The Lion King: Can You Feel The Love primetime special, which featured Robin Roberts. The soundtrack, which features artists such as Pharrell, Jay Z, Childish Gambino, Burna Boy, and other African artist from around the world, was curated and executive produced by the Texas Native.

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Beyoncé discussed her involvement in the making of the film’s soundtrack.

“The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, not just use some of the sounds and did my own interpretation of it,” she said. “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa. I feel like the soundtrack, it becomes visual in your mind. It’s a soundscape. It’s more than just the music because each song tells the story of the film.”

Spirit was filmed at Havasu Falls in the Havasupai Reservation in Arizona, and features some pretty amazing visuals such as synchronized background dancers. Daughter Blue Ivy even makes a cameo, matching her mother in a pink gown and red-tinted hair.

The singer is also celebrating the 2019 Emmys nomination, which was announced Tuesday, for her Netflix film, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé. The footage takes the viewer through the rehearsal process of her 2018 Coachella performance. It has a remarkable six nominations, including “Outstanding Variety Special” (pre-Recording).

The Lion King: The Gift is set to be released in theatre’s this Friday, July 19.

Prosecutors Tells Judge R. Kelly Is A Danger To Minors, Bail Denied!

Singer R. Kelly is in a Chicago federal court for his first bond hearing stemming from last week’s arrest of sex-trafficking and obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors made it clear this afternoon that they oppose any bond for the singer claiming he’s a threat to the community, especially to minors.

“This risk of obstruction is real. This risk is ongoing. This risk is heightened by the defendant’s fame and power,” one assistant U.S. attorney told the judge, Harry Leinenweber. The singer “has a unique ability to influence and intimidate witnesses and victims, and that continues to this day.”

If found guilty, Kelly, 52, could receive a minimum of 15 years behind bars and a maximum sentence of 195 years in prison based on the Chicago charges alone. He has been incarcerated in Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center since agents arrested him near his home in Trump Tower early Thursday evening.

Prosecutors argued Tuesday that home confinement and electronic monitoring would not be sufficient, given the charges against the singer.

“The defendant can entice girls to his own doorstep, he doesn’t have to leave his home to do that,” one told the judge.

Meanwhile, R. Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, fired back to defend his client, saying Kelly has already surrendered his passport, and noted the guy doesn’t like to fly … so he’s not a flight risk. Greenberg also says that, to his knowledge, Kelly didn’t miss any court dates in his 2008 trial. Speaking of that trial, Greenberg responded to allegations that the case was rigged, saying R. Kelly faced a jury of his peers, and not a bench trial.
Greenberg also says that R. Kelly has voluntarily shown up to every court hearing in his current case, despite the fact the prosecution insists he’s been a flight risk. He hasn’t run, and Greenberg hit the point home by saying, “How could he flee? He has no money.” Greenberg does note that R. Kelly’s Trump Tower rent is paid up through December or January.
On the allegation that R. Kelly is a threat to minors to this day, Greenberg says all but one of the allegations against Kelly dates back to the ’90s, and that “there’s no evidence that he’s a risk to minors at all at this point.” Greenberg also says there’s no evidence of witness tampering.
One more argument from Greenberg here … he says the fact that R. Kelly can’t read or write would make it difficult to go over discovery with him in jail. He also says Kelly makes for a difficult prisoner because of his notoriety and implications that come with that.
The judge seemed to side with prosecutors though, saying the child porn charge alone comes with a “presumption of detention.” He was ordered to be held in jail without bond.

Both Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary were seen leaving the courtroom in good spirits along with their attorney Gloria Schmidt.

Kendrick Lamar Makes History With “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City”

Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, has remained on the on the Billboard 200 for a total of 350 weeks, with only one other album hitting that mark.

In its first week, GKMC debuted at No. 2, selling 242,000 copies in its first week and earned the highest first-week hip-hop album sales of 2012 from a male artist. It also featured singles such as Swimming Pools, Poetic Justice, and Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe. It was later certified as triple platinum, and Lamar was even nominated four times for a Grammy Award in 2014, which included Album of the Year.

Chart Data tweeted on Monday that Kendrick’s album ties with Eminem’s 2002 album, The Eminem Show, as the only hip-hop studio albums to appear on the Billboard 200 chart for 250 weeks. While Eminem has a 10-year head start on Kendrick, numbers show that the HUMBLE rapper may very well surpass Eminem, as GKMC currently sits at No. 152. The two have both previously worked closely with rapper, Dr. Dre.

Lamar said that he looks up to Eminem, as he even inspired a track on the sophomore album after observing Eminem in the studio.

“When  I have that aggression in the record like that (on Backseat Freestyle), that’s tricks that I learned being in that studio and dedicating myself; being a student,” Lamar told Vibe. “Eminem was definitely a sought-out player that I always respected and looked up to.”

Lamar has since released five studio albums, including the Black Panther inspired album. Only time will tell if Lamar’s album will surpass Slim Shady’s, but one thing’s for sure, both artists have established themselves as some of the greats in the rap game.

 

Los Angeles PD Was Praising Nipsey Hussle While Having Him Under Surveilance

The late rapper Nipsey Hussle is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department for potential gang ties.

The Grinding All My Life rapper was shot and killed outside of his store, Marathon Clothing, in Los Angeles on March 31 of this year. Hussle was known for his 2013 mixtape, Crenshaw, as well as his collaborations with artists such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, YG, Young Thug, and Ty Dolla $ign.

Hussle was a member of the Rollin’ 60s Crips a long time ago, however he disowned the gang life and worked to help former gang members who got out of prison get back on their feet. He was most notably recognized for his contributions to his community, as he actively worked to end gang violence and was even scheduled to meet with LA Police Commissioner, Steve Soboroff, and LAPD Chief, Michael Moore the Monday following his death, according to Soboroff’s Twitter.

However, the same police force who was constantly praising the late rapper are now investigating him for possible criminal prosecution for alleged gang activity, according to TMZ. Police believe that his clothing store was potentially a hangout for gang members, which is what ultimately took Hussle’s life. The New York Times states that a few year’s before his death, the City of Los Angeles was trying to convince Hussle’s landlord to evict him from his store.

Hussle reportedly bought the building with the help of some investors, according to TMZ. While the city can no longer prosecute Hussle, they are continuing to investigate his business partners.

Revenge Of The Dreamers III Claims No. 1 Spot On the Billboard Charts

Rapper J. Cole released his highly anticipated album, Revenge Of The Dreamers III, on July 5, and the project has since hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the week ending July 11.

So far, the album has made 115,412 total album equivalent units, with 23,284 of those being pure album sales. ROTD has also made a streaming account of 120,792,837. Artists such as J.I.D, Vince Staples, and EARTHGANG also contributed to the album’s success.

Previously, the 2015 album Revenge Of The Dreamers II peaked at No. 29, according to The New York Times, so it is safe to say that Cole has grown not only as an artist, but with the label as a whole.

Other artists who made appearances on the Billboard charts include Chris Brown who recently released his album, Indigo. The project sat at the No. 1 spot last week, but has since moved to No. 3. Lil Nas X’s 7 EP also dropped, as it went from No. 2 to No. 4. Jaden Smith’s ERYS has made its way into the top 15, and Machine Gun Kelly’s Hotel Diablo entered the top 5. 17-year-old Billie Ellish sits at the No. 2 spot with her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? 

Tour announcements for the album have yet to be revealed.
